Prologue

"Remember to feed Bella" my mom reminded me as she grabbed the keys and opened the door. "I'll be back in 4 hours at most."

"Mom, i'll be fine. I've stayed home alone before" I told her. My mom had a tendency of being very protective. She would have stayed at home if she could, but she works as a surgeon and the hospital she works at needs her tonight.

My mom finally left and I saw her car pull out of the driveway. I looked at my phone's time. 8:03. I was pretty tired, so I thought I would go to sleep earlier than usual.

I sat on the couch and turned on the T.V. Roxy jumped up on the couch next to me and rested her head on my lap.

Bella, my Siberian Husky. She was still young, only being 3 human years old, 21 dog years.

"Sissy, where is mommy?" I heard a voice say next to me. I turned and saw my little sister, Star, staring up at me.

"She had to go to work tonight. But don't worry! She will be back soon" I picked her up and placed her on my lap. Bella had to move her head out of the way.

Star was only 7 years old.

"Sissy, I'm hungry" Star rubbed her stomach for emphasis.

"Alrighty then. Let's see what we have to eat" I stood up and carried Star to the kitchen, setting her down on one of the island chairs.

I rummaged through the fridge for something Star could eat. I came across a container of mashed potatoes, Star's favorite food. There was a little note.

To Lila:

Mashed potatoes. I made this for Star before I left for work. If she gets hungry, heat this up in the microwave for about 30 seconds, let it cool down a bit, put it in Star's pink plate, and give it to her. There is some juice in the fridge for Star too.

I smiled at the note. I took the container and put it in the microwave, setting the timer to 30 seconds.

I took a cup out of the cupboard and filled it with juice. When the mashed potatoes were done, I served it in Star's plate.

"Here you go Star. I'm going to go feed Bella. Don't make a mess" Star nodded as she put a spoonful of mashed potatoes in her mouth.

I left the kitchen and went to where Bella was sitting in front of her bowl, eager to eat. I grabbed the bag of kibbles and filled the bowl. Bella was about to lunge at the bowl.

"Wait" I said. Bella stopped and sat in front of the bowl. I had trained her to eat at my command but sometimes she got too excited. I put the bag of kibbles away. Bella stared at me expectantly.

"You can eat now." As soon as I said that, Bella dove for the bowl and started eating quickly.

"Jeez. You act like we never feed you" I went back to the kitchen and saw Star was done with her food.

"Can I watch T.V please, please?" Star begged me.

"Yes, but only for a little. When I tell you to go to sleep, you better not complain" I washed the plate and cup quickly.

"Okay!" Star jumped off the chair and ran to the living room, changing the channel on the T.V.

I put the dishes away in their respective places. I heard a ding coming from my phone. I walked to the counter where my phone was lighting up with a notification. It was an ad popup.

I sighed and swiped right, clearing the notification. I looked at the time again and saw it was 8:30. I was really tired today. It was Friday and I had dance practise. My muscles ached. I just wanted to take a hot shower and sleep.

I looked to the living room where Star was singing her favorite show's theme song. I grabbed my phone and walked to the living room.

"Come on Star. Time for bed" I said.

"Do I really have too?" she whined.

I looked at her sternly.

"I told you not to complain. Now come on" Star sighed but gave in. She turned the T.V off and walked over to me grudgingly.

I put my hand around her shoulder and led her to her room. I got her ready for bed and tucked her in.

I went to my room and took my pj's to the bathroom. I took a nice shower and changed. I brushed my teeth and walked lazily to my room.

I pulled back the sheets and got into bed, falling asleep shortly after.

Oh boy... I had no idea what I had coming the next morning.
