Meeting

(Sirius POV)

Now that the end goal was to become the next Figurehead of Magical Britain, I had a lot of work to do, which included making the news a lot. Some headlines could be used if they were still canon, including "Saving the School from Basilisk," "Lord Black Saves Women from Mind Trickster Lockhart," and some unsavory ones like Bellatrix fishing out supporters of Voldemort, since Bellatrix is supposed to be dead, and no one knows of her betrayal, leading them to attack places, creating chaos, then me "appearing" and saving everyone. This would not only take out Voldemort's remaining followers but also cement my power in the minds of the public.

To be on the safe side, I would need a lot of support from Amelia so as not to be declared a vigilante and become a wanted man once again. However, I needed to completely eliminate any hidden wariness the wizarding world held toward me. What better way than to be seen with their beloved heroine? Girl-who-lived. Was it altruistic to meet my goddaughter after a year with selfish intentions? Eh, well, it is what it is. Anyway, I was a wanted man, she would understand, or not.

That's why I was at the iconic 4 Privet Drive, Surrey. A few mental scans helped me locate the Dursley house, and I placed a discreet "don't notice me" charm on the Dumbledore squib spy living next door. Some nervousness crept into me as I walked up the porch, considering this was an alternate universe. I didn't know what to expect from Rose, especially given that in canon, Potter stayed with his aunt and uncle for 11 years, while in this world, Potter has living here for 18 years.

"Knock, knock."

Knocking on the door, I waited. A bony woman with blonde hair, a "rather horsey" face, and a very long neck opened the door. "Who are you?" she asked with a perpetual scowl. Not to toot my own horn, but in this body after the ritual, I was pretty handsome, so it was strange how she quickly ignored my appearance. Wasn't there a saying about good-looking people having an easier time? Maybe she was extremely loyal. Whatever, I ignored my errant thoughts.

I didn't bother to reply and sent a Legilimency probe into her mind to see how Rose grew up and if there were any complications. Petunia didn't feel anything other than a mild headache forming as she thought about how she raised her niece.

Coming out of my stupor, as I wasn't expecting this, Rose was aware of magic and capable of some form of it for all intents and purposes. Most of the time, she used it on her family. From the looks of it, it started as a form of self-defense and later turned into spite or petty revenge, nothing serious just a push or shove when they she was yelled at. It seemed like she had mellowed out; I wouldn't want to deal with a nascent dark lord.

"I am here for Rose Potter; I am her godfather."

Petunia gasped lightly and stiffened. Her eyes constricted in momentary fear, but quickly she glared at me with loathing. She was about to start shouting when she flinched, not because of my behavior but because of ingrained fear from how Rose lashed out whenever she shouted. She took a deep breath and stiffly said, "I will call her." She quickly closed the door. Well, she was rude, or poor lady.

Was I disturbed by how Rose treated them? Kind of. She started showing aggression at a young age in response to anything she perceived as a slight. One could argue that the Dursleys never raised a hand against her, but from Petunia's memories, they had considered punishing her physically before becoming scared by the magic the growing Rose exhibited.

My musings were cut short by the door opening. A red-headed girl with green eyes came out. She looked a lot like Lily from my memories. Quickly offering the best greeting I could muster, I said, "Hi, Rose. Sorry for the late meeting. I am your godfather, Sirius Black."

(Rose Potter Pov)

When her aunt came and told her someone who claimed to be her godfather was at the door and was asking for her, disbelief, a mix of nervousness, apprehension, and excitement – emotions she rarely felt – began bubbling within her. She tried to maintain her composure and tried to walk slowly toward the door, but her legs automatically moved briskly.

'Family... My relative,' she thought, though a dark idea reared its head in her mind: "Why is he so late?", "Did he abandon me?", "Petunia never told me about anyone else besides my mother."

She tried to suppress the resentment or erase it, but it was difficult. Sometimes, when the Dursleys celebrated holidays or Dudley received birthday gifts, she wished she had someone there for her too. But now she had grown up. Again, her thoughts turned dark.

'Refuse to meet him,' 'Tell him to get lost,' 'You don't need him anymore,' but these thoughts were crushed just by the weight of meeting someone like her. Someone who had magic. She would give her so-called godfather a chance. She hoped he had good excuses, or she would take revenge on someone who had abandoned her.

Resolutely, she held the doorknob, though her hand shook slightly. She still opened it.

There stood her 'godfather.' He was, well, how she imagined her 'people' to be. She had seen how she grew up; she might not be vain, but she felt confident about her appearance. She attributed her appearance to magic. How could she not? She was Petunia's niece by blood, but Petunia was average compared to her. So she automatically built an ideal image of her godfather when Petunia mentioned him.

'Tall, handsome, strong, powerful man.'

Well, she was wrong; he had exceeded the image she built. He was even better. Moreover, he had this presence around him that just demanded respect.

Though he was dressed in clothes she considered mundane, as Petunia described how wizards used to wear robes, her thoughts were interrupted when he introduced himself.

"Hi Rose, sorry for the late meeting. I am your godfather, Sirius Black."
