Ruth's carriage was running fast on its way back to Vincardine, and Lester's horse was right behind it in case Darius decided to try something stupid.
Lester didn't waste time and pushed Eloise and Ruth into the carriage before ordering the coachman to ride as fast as he could. Lester had two more guards with him who ran in front of the carriage.
The night was born again, and they slowed down for the rest in a small village on their way. That village belonged to the humans and thus was the comfortable place for their night's stay.
Nobody really talked to each other. They asked the head of the village for a place to stay, and the man took them to the cottage, where he arranged for their food and bed. After dinner, Ruth sat outside around a bonfire.
The coachman fed the horse at a distance and was checking the carriage for their comfortable journey the next day.
