Tonio gazed at her soberly, slowly nodding. “I suppose you’re right.”

“You know I am, damn it. So stop with the pity party. It doesn’t suit you.”

He barely smiled. “Pity party? How teenaged.”

“If the shoe fits,” she retorted.

“I am so far from being a teenager.”

Reni laughed. “Aren’t we both?” She slid off the bed, holding out her hand. “I’m going to make you something to eat.”

Tonio took it, getting up as well. “That sounds good, but not until after I’ve showered.”

She sniffed and wrinkled her nose. “I think that would be a good idea.”

“Care to join me? Food can wait.”

“Mr. Paladini, are you propositioning me?”

Putting his arm around her waist, Tonio replied, “I think you know the answer to that.”

“You are feeling better.”

He dipped his head to kiss her. “Getting there, thanks to you.”

“Always glad to be of service, especially your service,” she replied as they made their way to the bathroom—and into the shower.
