Chapter 69

"You know, for someone so talented, you seem to have two left feet at times." Aurora said as she sat down.

Music played as couples swirled around the dance floor as decorations spiced up the place with the large disco ball spun in the center. The pair were currently at the school dance and Leonardo led Aurora over to sit, since he accidentally missed stepping causing her feet to be stepped on a few times.

While he felt a bit bad, Leonardo truthfully didn't do it on purpose. It's just due to being in such a tight space with a dancing couple around and not wanting to accidentally bump into them. It led to a bit of a space issue when Aurora accidently stepped too far out causing him to step on her toes. However, he wouldn't tell her that part and just accept he has two left feet in dancing.

"Did you notice anything strange with Martha earlier?" Aurora suddenly asked.

"Do you mean suddenly finding her spoiled teenage girl rebellion state that came decades late?" Leonardo asked.

"Well, yes." Aurora laughed at his words.

"If I guess right, it should be Dawn Stiles. She drove her car into a meteor crater and should have become infected and able to possess others. Now she should be body hopping." Leonardo answered.

"So why are you sitting here and not fixing it?" Aurora narrowed her eyes.

"Clark says he wants to take care of it." Leonardo sighed. "It feels great that he is standing on his own but also lonely when he doesn't come for advice or allow me to tease him."

"Well, soon you will be enrolled to become an officer and you can tease everyone else. I bet you will knock those criminals who think they are so smart down a peg or ten." Aurora sighed.

"It will be a welcome challenge." Leonardo shrugged. "It would keep my days from being boring like they are now."

The two continued to chat a bit, when Leonardo noticed that Clark walked in a suit with Lois on his arm. Seeing Lois in pink, Leonardo felt that while she does well in the dress, pink is not her color. Though he is more amused at Clark's uncomfortable look.

"I think I found our body hopper." Leonardo pointed at Lois.

"Pink is not her color." Aurora nodded.

"Well, at least it's a prom to remember." Leonardo joked. "So want to make a bet on who is going to be prom queen?"

"My guess is Chloe." Aurora smiled mischiefly.

Leonardo gave up on this bet since both can't bet on the same person after all. Not to mention they sat next to where they were tallying the points. So it is not impossible to find out easily since it is more school tradition then some major thing, hence they just tally the votes in a corner.

While Leonardo was chatting with Aurora, Clark who found himself dragged to Prom by Lois was a bit confused. He was sure Lois didn't care, but when he was about to go out looking for Dawn. Lois suddenly turned around and told him she was going to prom with him.

"Isn't this amazing? Oh, aren't you so glad you came, Clark? We are gonna have so much fun!" Lois grinned happily.

"Okay, Lois, you got me here. Why don't you grab some punch to start things off." Clark suggested.

"Great." Lois walked to the fruit punch.

After looking around, Clark knew that Dawn wouldn't miss this since it was basically her obsession. With so many around, he was unsure whose body she currently occupied. Not to mention with Lois acting strangely, well more strange than usual. Clark felt troubled on where to begin looking and how he should fix the issue.

It was just when Lois didn't return after getting the punch did he want to slap himself. For when he walked over, he saw Lois grumbled while looking at her dress. Not to mention she seemed a bit confused on how she arrived here or why she was in such a dress. Which matched the same symptom that his mother had when he chased her down at the Talon.

"Hey, Smallville, why am I at your prom?"

"I will explain later." Clark said, looking around to see Chloe walking onto the stage.

The corner of his mouth twitched as he had a bad feeling about what is to come. Which after hearing Chloe begin her speech as the crown was placed on her head. Clark looked at Lois who was fidgeting with a small flower pin to her dress.

"Did you pin this on me? A little close to the boob, don't you think?" Lois asked.

"Lois, I need you to find Leo and tell him to grab 'that' metal box from the truck." Clark said.

"Huh?" Lois looked confused as she watched Clark hurrying away.

--

When Leonardo heard Clark's words, he felt like he should beat him up. Why on earth would he be willing to share the joy of being around Kryptonite? So, he kindly found Jonathan and told him to do this favor instead. After all, what would happen if something goes wrong and the two heavy hitters are out due to their own doing with a green rock?

In the end, Leonardo enjoyed chatting with Aurora and getting a few more dances from her. While Clark on the other hand enjoyed bringing out his female drama queen side and some kryptonite for dessert. Which ended the joyful prom on a happy note.

--

The next morning, Aurora was preparing to leave. While Leonardo really wanted her to stay as it would relieve his boredom since it seems Clark doesn't need him at the moment. Thus Leonardo felt like he was left drifting in the middle of the sea and only saw a yacht when Aurora could come by or Clark needed him.

"Don't be too sad, Leo." Aurora hugged him. "It's only a bit longer."

"Yeah, but I want a good puzzle to solve." Leonardo sighed.

Even in the Fortress of Solitude, Leonardo began to breeze through various levels of crimes it generated for him to solve. While the levels are getting harder, his experience and thinking is improving faster. So much, he felt like he could crack most cases with a bit of effort.

'Well, no need to feel arrogant about case solving. I am no god in case solving, but maybe an expert?' Leonardo thought to himself.

Aurora seemed to struggle a bit for a moment, before she pulled out a folder. "While it is not really allowed, it is a cold case and no one has been able to crack it in twenty years. So my mother called in a few favors and since you are enlisting into the academy soon. Special permission was given to you, but please don't spread it out."

Confused on this, Leonardo cracked open the file and saw a picture of a disassembled body. The eyeless head staring up at him while it looked like the rest of him went through a meat grinder. It was nightmare inducing one could say if they were prepared for what they would see.

Yet, when Leonardo looked at the head he felt like giving up on the case for the time being. For the head looked like one of his old team leads in his old life, and not a good one at that. Yet, he knew he was being given a chance so he resisted that urge to throw it out the window.

After doing a quick scan of the photo and the notes that the previous detective had put into the file. Leonardo looked at where the limbs were chopped and how it was disposed of. Which showed the killer didn't do work as a butcher or was a hunter. For he tended to cut haphazardly and often chipped the bone multiple times trying to cut through or used a lot of brute force in it.

Then he noticed that some of the bones showed some scrapping and determined that the killer took some of the meat. For if he ate it, that was questionable, but probably has a high chance and agreed with a few detectives who noted it down.

"So is this a good puzzle?" Aurora asked.

"For now." Leonardo said. "I do have a few ideas, but I need to study these files a bit longer first."
