Chapter 13 Something New

Avery's POV

I don't feel much these days, numbness all around. Drinking helps some but my sisters already know about it. What am I gonna do now?

"Hey Jamie" I said somberly.

"Hey babe, what's wrong?"

"Nothing"

"Are you sure"

"Yeah" I tried to shoot him a fake smile but it just came out sad.

"I can tell when something's wrong Avery, you know you can tell me anything"

"I know...it's just, I can't feel much of anything anymore. After mom died everything just went numb"

"I understand, why do you think you feel like this?"

"Since everything with Scarlett and Dad and Mom, I just don't have anything left in me."

"You think a therapist would help?"

"Maybe"

Scarlett's POV

For once I'm doing pretty good. Well good enough at least.

I can't leave the house for at least another week  so that sucks, but I guess their just looking out for me.

"I'm bored as hell"

So I thought why not have a little fun. Amy was downstairs reading so this would be a perfect time to sneak out. I wrote a note to Amy that said I'd be out for a little bit but I'd be back soon.

I made a rope out of bed sheets and put on a hoodie and some sweatpants and headed down. I actually made it.

I started heading towards the train tracks but not to kms, just to get some air. So I headed down there and then I saw Avery's car.

I went down there and saw Avery laying in the ground away from the tracks surrounded by beer vodka and whiskey bottles, I don't even know where she could have got them from.

"Avery!"

"Scar!?!? Hey wat are u doin hear"

Since I came out here for fun I decided to drink a few bottles and got pretty drunk myself

I could tell she was wasted but I didn't have my phone. So I dragged her back up, which was very difficult and decided to put her in her car. And we sat there for what seemed like hours. And I knew Amy was probably worried sick.

Thankfully Avery woke up and we walked to my house.

When we got in we were immediately hit by Amy.

"What the hell you two?!?! You had me so worried!!!"

Avery then passed out on the couch and I had to take all the heat.

"Scarlett look at me!"

"Yeah yeah whatever, stop being so loud"

"Are you drunk too?!?!"

She came up to me and could smell the alcohol on my breath.

"Oh my god I can not believe this, am I the only one that acts like an adult here!?!?!"

"I'm sorry"

"Sigh. Scar what were you thinking?"

"Why you asking me?"

"Oh I'll get to Avery, but I'm talking to you right now"

"Come on it's summer, I needed some air"

"Well you could've said something instead of leaving a vague note"

"You wouldn't have let me leave"

"Your right, and its because of these things you do that make me do that."

"Your not my mom"

"You see me like mom?!?!"

"No, your waaaay nicer. You'd never hit me or, ya kno boiling water and shit"

"Scarlett, I'm sorry that these things have happened to us but this just isn't a good way to let that out."

"Yeah yeah I kno, healthy copin mechanisms and stuff"

"I would send you to your room but who knows what you'll do when I'm not watching you"

"I'm not a baby"

"Well your acting like one"

"Whatever"

I went to the fridge and there was some wine left, so I got a glass a tried to pour myself some but of course Amy stopped me.

"What is wrong with you!!!"

"A lot of things"

"Scarlett do you even care?"

"To be honest not really, but I'm trying to learn to again."

"Sigh. Ok, please just don't do that again"

"Can't make any promises"

"Please Scar, I'm serious"

"Fine, can I go now?"

"No you can lay on the couch like Avery, because obviously I have to keep a constant eye on you"

I sighed but just laid down on the other couch and fell asleep.

***************

Amy's POV

I swear these two act like babies. We've all been through some stuff but still it's not an excuse to start drinking. If it weren't for these counseling sessions Adam has me in, I don't know what I'd do. Those things are really helping me out. Keeping me sane with these two knuckleheads running around doing dumb things.

The next morning the two of them woke up to Adam and Stan waiting to talk to them.

"Hey girls" Adam started.

"Hey..." Scarlett said.

"You know we care about you"

"Yeah..."

"Well Scarlett, since I can't really control Avery and I'm not her guardian, she can go"

And Avery still hungover just got up and left.

"But for you Scarlett, we think your behavior is unacceptable"

"Look, I'm sorry"

"We are too"

"Scarlett since you obviously don't have anything better to do, and we can't trust you alone even with Amy, your getting a babysitter that specializes in kids like you who've had a tough upbringing. On top of that Mary would like you to start going to group therapy sessions every Saturday."

"WHAT!?!?"

"Sorry but you still need a lot of help"

"I can't believe this"

Scarlett brung this upon herself. I feel bad but it was definitely the right thing to do.

Scarlett's POV

I can't believe I'm getting a babysitter. A BABYSITTER. I'm not four years old. And the worse part is I can't do shit about it.

Just then Adam came upstairs into my room and just sat on his laptop like I wasn't even there.

"What do you want"

"To help you, and if that means watching you till the babysitter gets here than so be it."

"Their coming today?"

"No, tomorrow"

"Spectacular"

"Hey, this is for you. You need the help, and we're here to help you."

I rolled over in bed and fell asleep.

The next day there was a knock at the door, and surprise surprise it was the babysitter.

"Hi Scarlett, I'm Luna"

"Hey"

"You two will have a great time" Adam said walking out the door. And Amy went to go hang out with some friends.

"So, since we just met let's do some icebreakers"

"I'm not in the mood" I said laying on the couch.

"Well what are you in the mood to do?"

"Sleep"

"You know, sleeping to much can have negative effects on your health"

"And I should care why?"

"Because you should care about yourself because you are important and you matter"

"Wow that's just so inspirational. Where'd you get it from, Pinterest" I say sarcastically.

"Your not the first stubborn kid I've met"

"Is that supposed to scare me, because it's not working"

"Ok how about we just watch a movie"

Just be nice just be nice.

"No thanks, we don't have to like each other you know."

"Well it'd be a lot more fun if we did"

"I don't even know why I got a babysitter, I'm 13 I can take care of myself"

"But you choose time and time again to not take care of yourself"

"Your not my therapist or counselor or one of my sisters."

"Your right, I'm not. I'm just here to help you work through your problems in healthy ways"

"This is bs"

"Hey, come on now. Can we at least try to get to know each other"

And before I knew it, I was talking to this lady. Nothing deep, but just casual convo.

"Im tired, I'm gonna go upstairs now"

"Ok, I'll come up with you"

"Uh...why?"

"To keep an eye on you, check up on you mostly"

"That's incredibly weird"

"It's only weird if you make it weird"

I sighed, "whatever"

And we walked up stairs, she just stood outside the door for awhile while I was trying to fall asleep. I did manage to fall asleep after awhile though not for long.

Avery's POV

What the hell is wrong with me? I ask myself that everyday. I need help fast. Everything around me feels like it's crumbling down and I don't know what to do. I feel numb to everything. And later it always comes flooding out. The cycle never stops. I'm trying to be strong but deep down, I know I'm a broken hollow mess.

"Hey, babe why are you crying"

"I don't deserve to be happy"

"Everyone deserves to be happy" He hugged me close. But yet I couldn't stop myself.

"They hate me"

"Who hates you?"

"Amy and Scarlett. Their finally seeing what a mess I am."

"They love you Avery" he looked me in the eyes so sincerely. "I love you"

"I'm not good enough for you or them, I'm not strong enough to hold them up and support them alone anymore."

"You don't have to do this alone. I'm always gonna be here"

"Amy definitely hates me. She's so fed up with my drinking and constantly ruining what's been built. I hate myself for it. And then dragging Scar into it. And she's still trying to get better. Im so fucking stupid"

"She doesn't hate you. She wants what's best for you Scarlett and herself. She wants Scarlett to get better you to get better and herself to get better. And your not stupid, your sad. And I'm here to help you get through the dark times."

I looked at him, kissed him and then hugged him for what seems like an eternity. And we both eventually fell asleep.
