"Cough, class is starting! Everyone, please quiet down. Carter over there, chatting away, right? I heard you..."
At this moment, if Carter still didn't understand that he had become the new campus legend of Elmond School, he might as well buy a block of tofu and knock himself out!
Not only did his classmates gather around him, but even many teachers knew about him. Especially the geography teacher, who directly chatted with him in class about his travels, asking him to share his experiences with the students about places like the Glacier National Park in Montana and the Grand Canyon in Colorado.
The once transparent Carter was now gone forever. The current Carter had girls sitting next to him whenever he sat down. And when he walked around, there were boys looking at him with envy.
This experience, if it were the original Blake, would probably have thrilled him to no end. But for Carter, who was currently immersed in financial matters, it was a bit troublesome.
"Carter, are you going to have lunch? Here's some yogurt I bought for you."
"Thank you, but I don't drink milk!"
Politely declining the fourth girl's kindness today, Carter walked into the cafeteria feeling a bit bitter. If girls were showing interest in him, he should have felt some joy, right? But that wasn't the case.
What bothered Carter was that even though these girls were showing interest, he wasn't interested in them! There weren't many girls at this school that he found appealing. The ratio of beauties among the crowd was ultimately quite low, as they say, quality over quantity.
In a place as small as Douglas, with only a handful of people, the chance of encountering beauties was as rare as winning the lottery. Especially after the saturation attack of "beauties" on future short videos, Carter's standards had been infinitely raised.
With the "odd and strange" bunch in front of him, it was hard for Carter to feel interested. Once he lost interest, these persistent admirers became rather annoying.
"Hey? Is this considered the dilemma of handsome guys?"
Sitting down by the window in the cafeteria with his tray, Carter chuckled to himself with a hint of self-deprecation. He had never experienced this kind of attention in his two lifetimes. Now that he finally had it, he still wasn't satisfied.
Looking out the window at the bright sunlight, Carter leisurely enjoyed his lunch. The lunch break wasn't long at school, but for Americans who didn't have the habit of napping, it was more than enough time just for eating. You could easily savor your food slowly.
Just as Carter was calmly savoring his lunch, there was suddenly a wave of intentionally suppressed noise in the cafeteria. And the voices seemed to be gradually approaching him.
Curiously, Carter raised his head and saw a fair-skinned, beautiful, long-legged blonde girl walking towards him.
"Hello, Carter, may I sit here? I guess I don't need to introduce myself, do I?"
"Of course, please have a seat!"
Compared to the previous girls, the one in front of Carter could definitely be called a beauty. With her fair, flawless skin, deep-set eye sockets, and a pair of azure blue eyes, she looked like a fairy princess from a fairy tale.
She didn't need to introduce herself. In Carter's memory, the original Blake had fantasized about this Nordic "goddess" quite a bit. But what puzzled Carter was how he, in his current state, could attract such a girl? It didn't seem realistic.
"I heard you took a trip around the United States this summer, covering both the East and West coasts?"
"That's right. Do you have something you want to talk to me about?"
Facing the opening line he had heard countless times today, Carter's heart remained unmoved, feeling even a bit bored. Out of respect for the beauty in front of him, Carter added a little more:
"Are you here to ask me about New York or Los Angeles, the living and working environment? If not, then let's not talk about it."
"No, even though I'll be graduating in a year, that's something to consider after graduation. I'm here to ask for your sponsorship! The new annual football and basketball leagues are about to begin, and would you be willing to contribute to our school's teams?"
Twirling her golden hair around her temples, Lycoris spoke playfully, with a hint of allure. It seemed like she was implying, yet also openly stating:
"Sponsoring the teams would mean you'd have easy access to our cheerleading squad, too~"
"Sorry, I'm not interested in sponsoring."
As expected, the tide of luck never lasted. Feeling poor as a church mouse, Carter immediately declined. If this girl was thinking about my money, she wasn't a goddess, she was just a gold digger!
"Huh? Are you saying no? I'm sorry, I can't think of any reason for you to refuse."
Carter's clean and neat refusal left Lycoris looking somewhat stunned, with her mouth slightly agape. However, Carter didn't have the opportunity to appreciate the sight of the goddess's surprise, because she spoke again:
"Our school has limited facilities and no baseball team. You just need to sponsor the football and basketball teams, which won't cost much. And your advertisements will be on the jerseys, so you'll also be able to..."
"And then what? Can I go on a date with you? If not, then let's not talk about it."
Carter cut off Lycoris's words abruptly, feeling that this girl might be too used to being praised. Could she not hear my clear refusal attitude?
"Do you realize what my family does? Do Blake Bank need to advertise in Douglas? And even if we have plans to expand outside of Douglas, which we don't for now, could our school's teams promote us?"
The sports league system in American high schools was indeed well done, and there were indeed some excellent sports facilities in some small high schools. But unfortunately, Elmond School was not one of them.
This school easily reminded Carter of his high school days in China. Under the leadership of Mrs. Mary, Elmond was almost entirely focused on academic achievement, with SAT scores as the core target. Other activities were passable, but sports facilities were lacking. Just look at the fact that the school didn't even have a baseball field, and you'd know what kind of situation it was.
Baseball was the second most popular sport in America, even higher than basketball in rankings! A school with such a team, asking for sponsorship from him? Wasn't that just throwing his money away?
"Don't blame me for being blunt. With the kind of people on our school teams, if they can beat Douglas, that would be amazing already. So let's not talk about sponsorship, I don't see any benefits."
"How could you? Carter, you're also a member of Elmond, aren't you? Can you bear to watch your classmates running around on the court with the soles of their shoes almost worn out?"
"Huh? Temptation didn't work, so now resorting to moral blackmail?
But when it comes to moral blackmail, who doesn't know how to do it?"
"Huh? Have you forgotten that, even at Elmond, many of our classmates have never even worn a decent pair of shoes? Let alone worn out shoe soles?
