Lost in the Rhythm
"Shall we?" Davien asked as he stood and extended his hand to her.
She eyed his hand hesitantly. Time dragged on, and she could see the worry in his eyes as if he feared she wouldn't take his hand. Bel finally lifted her gloved hand and placed it in his. He squeezed lightly as if reassuring her, before carefully helping her to her feet.
He led her to the dance floor, and the hall went quiet. They got into position, their fingers interlocked, his hand on her back, her arm on his shoulder. She took a deep breath, waiting for the music to begin.
"Did I mention that you look absolutely stunning tonight?" he asked.
Bel was so caught off guard by his compliment that she almost missed the cue to start. She recovered quickly, thankfully. She realized that these were the first words he'd spoken to her all night.
