"What did you say earlier?" Davien asked Bel when they were finally alone.
"What?" she asked with a frown, sitting at the edge of the bed while Davien lay on his back.
"When my father was here," he added.
She shouldn't be here; she should be in her room, but Bel had actually fought to stay. After his parents had shown up, they insisted he feed. She had offered to give him blood, but they all declined. She had ended up going to her room for dinner, and when she returned, Davien was lying in bed alone.
He said he was fine and that she should go back to her room to get some sleep while he would do the same. She had declined, insisting she wanted to keep an eye on him. Davien didn't argue, and now she was facing questions she didn't have answers to.
"I said a lot of things when your father was here," she said, pretending to be oblivious.
Davien laughed. "Nicely done."
