"Do you understand?" Davien kept a stern look on his face as he spoke to Alexander.
Alexander's gaze darkened for a second, but he simply nodded. "I will go with you."
"There is no need for that. I will come find you in a few."
"No," Alex said stubbornly.
"What?" Davien asked. He couldn't figure out why he was so agitated. Was it Alex's demeanor or his insistence? Either way, he was thoroughly unnerved.
"No, I'd have to insist. I can't leave here without you."
"Davien," Bel interrupted. "I just want to change out of these soggy clothes. If it's important, you can leave."
Davien sighed and turned to face her. "Don't worry, I'll take you to your room." He started walking again, both of them quite aware of Alex's presence. Davien stopped in front of her door and unlocked it, walking into the room.
"Could you put me down, please?" Bel asked.
She sounded so polite it caught him off guard. "Yeah, of course." He slowly let her down.
