His Worst Night

That night was the worst Jaber could ever remember.

Nothing but the smell of smoke and charred flesh.

The screams of people running in every direction for their lives filled the night, charging it with unease and terror.

The sky was dyed dark red, as if mirroring the ground covered in the blood of the innocent.

Bodies were thrown here and there, their expressions forever frozen on the silent cries they were unable to utter, unheard by anyone else.

The stars were eerily absent from the sky that night, as if they didn't bear to witness the horror that had befallen that small village in the south.

It was a cruel massacre...

Under that sad, starless sky, Jaber sat on the ground, staring speechlessly at his house burning down. The panels and rafters crumbled as they were devoured by the flames, and so were the two occupants trapped underneath them.
