Episode 3: Jenn's Test, Part 2

Previously, on Yu-gi-oh! Duelist Showdown! Joseph put the VHS tape into his VCR, and it played on his TV. Once he pushed play, Jenn Richards, running the tournament, appeared on his screen. Jenn said, "I set up a duel for you with one of my eliminators. I'll be watching. Come to my company. My eliminator will be waiting for you there. There will also be a surprise when you walk in the door." Once Joseph got inside, he saw all the doors and windows sealed shut and the place locked. Joseph said, "So, this must be the surprise." Ralph said, "Yep. Now let's duel." Ralph said, "I play The Swords of Revealing Light." Then, a tremendous light shined around Joseph, and he covered his eyes. Then, a bunch of swords surrounded his field.

Ralph said, "This magic card prevents your monsters from attacking for three turns." Joseph said, "I play Fusion Gate. This magic card allows me to fuse my monsters without using a Polymerization card. Now I fuse The Masked Avenger with Toronado, allowing me to summon The Masked Horse Rider (2700/2800). Next, I activate my duel armor. And I'll fuse myself with The Masked Horse Rider." Then Joseph became The Masked Horse Rider and said, "I end my turn. And now that three turns have ended, your Lightforce Sword returns my card." Joseph then looked at his card and saw what it was.

Once Joseph saw that his card was Eva, The Ninja Girl, he put it in his hand with his other cards. Joseph said, "Thanks for my card back." Ralph drew Mirror Force from his deck and said, "I lay 1 card face down. Next, I'll activate your Fusion Gate and fusion summon a monster. I'll fuse my Dark Magician with my Buster Blader to summon Dark Paladin (2900/2400). You're lucky he has to wait a turn before attacking." Joseph said, "Yes, I am. But I'm also starstruck. The Dark Magician is the headliner of Yugi's deck, and now you brought out the kick-butt monster he used to defeat Seto Kaiba in Battle City. Too bad I'll have to destroy him." Ralph laughed and said, "You can't do that. You don't have a card to." Joseph drew Hall of Lasers from his deck and showed Ralph his Waterfall Drop card. Ralph said, "Or maybe you do." Joseph said, "I play Waterfall Drop. This card will destroy all monsters in play and subtract the sum of their points from our Life Points." Joseph then lost 4800 Life Points, bringing him down to 3200, and Ralph lost 2900 Life Points, bringing him down to 4700. Jenn said, "No bad. Sacrificing his Life Points to get to Ralph's."

Joseph said, "Oh, and when The Masked Horse Rider gets destroyed, I can summon back a monster used to summon it. Behold, The Masked Avenger (2500/2400). I'll fuse with him with my duel armor and attack you directly!" Joseph then attacked Ralph directly, but Ralph discarded a card from his hand. Then, Joseph's attack did not affect Ralph. Joseph saw Ralph still had 4700 Life Points. Joseph said, "How did I miss?" Ralph said, "When you attacked, I discarded my Kuriboh (300/200) from my hand to protect me from your attack." Joseph said, "Lucky. I'll end my turn with a face-down card."

Clyde drew from his deck and saw it was King's Knight. Clyde said, "I play King's Knight (1600/1400) in defense mode. That ends my turn." Joseph drew Rapid Ride from his deck and said, "First, I'll de-activate my armor and un-fuse with The Masked Avenger. Next, I play Rapid Ride. This card lets me flip a coin to decide your King's Knight fall. You see, in a Rapid Ride, you may get killed if you fall. But if you just so happen to survive, you plunge into the falls and either get killed or go missing. So, if I call the coin toss right, your monster is destroyed because it didn't survive my rapids. If I call it wrong, your monster survives and is taken out of play for three turns since it took the plunge at the falls, and someone will eventually find him. And I think I'll go with heads." Joseph then flipped the coin and kept his fingers crossed. Joseph thought in his head, "Come on, heads." Ralph said, "Come on, tails." Joseph caught the coin, slammed it on his hand, and looked at the result. Joseph saw he called it right and shouted in victory. Joseph said, "Yes!" Ralph said, "No!" Jenn said, "Wow, talk about luck." Joseph's magic card then destroyed King's Knight. Joseph said, "Ok, Masked Avenger, attack him directly!" Ralph said, "Did you think it would be that easy?" Ralph said, "I reveal Mirror Force, which takes your attack aimed at me and fires it right back at you." The Masked Avenger then destroyed himself and sent himself to the graveyard. Ralph said, "My move."

Ralph drew Silent Magician Lv0 from his deck and said, "I play Silent Magician Lv0 (1000/1000) in Attack Mode. Attack him directly!" Joseph said, "Like you did the last turn, I reveal my trap card. It's called the Hall of Lasers." Then a bunch of lasers appeared between Ralph and Joseph and stopped Silent Magician in his tracks. Ralph said, "What's that do? And what's with the laser grid?" Joseph said, "This card allows me to pick one of the cards in my hand, and then you must guess what kind of card it is. Guess correctly, and your attack goes through. Guess wrongly, and your monster goes to the graveyard." Joseph chose his left card and held it up to Ralph. Joseph said, "Is this a monster, magic, or trap card?" Ralph said, "That's a magic card. You've used at least three throughout this duel." Joseph said, "True." Joseph then showed Ralph his card, and Ralph saw it was Treetop Snake Pack, a monster card. Joseph said, "But this isn't a magic card." Then the lasers destroyed Silent Magician, and Jenn was a little impressed. Joseph drew Jenny, The Queen's Guard, and said, "I summon Jenny, The Queen's Guard (1400/1500) in Attack Mode. And with nothing to protect you, you're in for a direct attack. Jenny, The Queen's Guard, attack his Life Points now." Jenny, The Queen's Guard, then attacked Ralph directly. Then Ralph lost 1400 Life Points, bringing him down to 3300. Joseph said, "We're almost even." Jenn said, "He's right. With only 100 Life Points separating their scores, it's anyone's game." Joseph said, "I'll leave it at that." Ralph drew Dark Magician Girl from his deck and said, "I don't have anything to play, so I'll pass this turn."

Joseph pulled Frank, The Musketeer, from his stack and said, "I play Treetop Snake Pack (1300/1250) in Attack Mode. Now, my monsters, attack him directly again!" First, Ralph lost 1400 Life Points from Jenny, The Queen's Guard, bringing him to 1900. Then he lost another 1300 from Treetop Snake Pack, bringing him down to 600. Ralph said, "Ok, so you got a few lucky shots. That still doesn't mean I can't pull a winner out of my hat." Ralph drew Magical Hats from his deck and said, "Still nothing. I pass again." Joseph said, "And now you're going to lose the game." Joseph drew Kitty, the Wizard, from his deck and said, "Ok, Jenny, Time for you to merge with me. Activate duel armor!" Joseph then merged with Jenny, The Queen's Guard, and took her Sword. Joseph held the Sword up to Ralph and said, "Now I'll deliver the final blow. Queen's Guard, attack!" Joseph then attacked Ralph directly, and he lost 1400 Life Points, bringing him down to 0. Once the duel was over, Joseph's armor disappeared, and Ralph started to drop his cards.

Jenn was impressed that Joseph beat Yugi's deck and felt he could win the tournament. Then, all the doors and windows unlocked, and the lockdown was turned off. Joseph then took Yugi's deck from Ralph's duel disk and looked through it. He saw all of Yugi's classics and all the cards he used to defeat all his opponents. Joseph said, "Wow, this is Yugi's deck. Dark Magician Girl, Kuriboh, Dark Magician, Swords of Revealing Light, Black Luster Soldier, and The Magician of Black Chaos. They're all here." Joseph then gave Ralph his deck back and left the building.
