Just as the nurse was about to answer me, a tall woman wearing a black feminine suit with heels stormed into the room. She flipped her long and wavy classic red hair to the side as she ripped off her sunglasses. Her brows were creased down toward the center of her forehead. I felt sweat on the back of my neck with a chill throughout my chest; the dread was consuming me whole. It was my boss, and she looked like she was about to throw down with someone, probably me.

Oh shit... Why is she here!?

I fearfully thought as I swallowed hard.

“DONGSAENG!” She roared at the top of her lungs, her eyes burning through me.

I am so dead...

“M-Martha-U-Unnienim,” I stuttered with very little confidence. My legs were trembling, and my feet felt like they were frozen to the spot. “Wh-What are you d-doing here?” I continued to stutter as I heard my heartbeat ringing in my ears, trying not to choke on my words.

“Why am I here?! Did you forget that I am your emergency contact?!” She rattled off as she stomped toward me. The nurse that was once beside me was now hugging the wall for safety.

Dammit, I thought I changed that...!

“I- I... I can explain,” I tried to start before she cut me off. She was in my face, merely centimeters between our chests.

This woman terrifies me, and she knows it.

“What the hell happened?!” She demanded to know.

I swear, if she could blow steam out of her nostrils or ears, that steam would be whistling by now.

I felt so small, despite only being three inches shorter than her.

What do I say? What can I say? Will I lose my job today? What about the boys; does she know about them? What does she know, and how much?

These thoughts sprinted across my mind as my lips trembled, my mouth opening and closing, unable to manage to make any syllables. I could see Martha was getting angrier by the second as she leaned her face in closer to mine, baring her teeth.

“I asked you a question, Dongsaeng. I expect an answer.”

“What exactly... are you... referring to...?” I managed to ask, hoping to play dumb to see how much knowledge she had of the situation. Of course, she’d probably see through my act.

I hope she does not know about the boys yet, but why else would she be so livid?

“Don’t,” she warned me, “Don’t play dumb with me. I guarantee that it will not work out in your favor.”

Maybe she does know. I really fucked up this time, haven’t I? Will she be less angry if I am sincere and do not tell her any white lies this time?

I have a history of telling white lies to get myself out of some very sticky situations; no pun intended. My boss knows all my tricks, though. After all, I did learn the tricks of the trade from the best. I took in a deep breath, slowly letting it out from my nose, hoping I could calm my nerves even by just a hair.

“Melody-ah, if you don’t start talking, I will give you a real reason to be scared.” She gave me my last warning.

“I don’t know, Unnie-nim.”

She grabbed me by the shoulders in an iron grip. “How can you not know??? People do not just pass out for no apparent reason!”

Pass out? Is that all she knows?

I carefully thought to myself. It was true, though... I honestly don’t know what exactly happened; it is a complete blur. “I fainted because I saw blood... a lot of blood...”

“Blood? Blood from what? Why are you even in the hospital? Did you pass out in here or somewhere else,” she asked, clearly concerned beneath her angry appearance.

Is she testing me?

“I passed out here in the hospital. There was a fight, I think, and someone got hurt really bad, and that person is in surgery at the moment.”

She straightened up, her tongue pressing against the inside of her cheek. She only ever does this when she is clearly annoyed. “I know.” She paused for a moment to see if I would add anything else, but when I stayed silent, she continued on, “I want to know about the fight. Who was involved? How did it start? How was it stopped and by whom?”

Well, this does not look so good for me. Unnie obviously knows what happened, but I guess she wants to hear my side of the story. Unfortunately, there is not much for me to tell.

“Would you believe me if I told you that I cannot recall what happened?” I tried my luck.

She raised an eyebrow in suspicion, drawing her arms back before crossing them over her chest. “What are you talking about, Dongsaeng?”

“Well, I was in the room with Hojeong and Namki when the Doctor came in and explained things before leaving. After the Doctor left, Namki looked upset and got on top of Hojeong, grabbing him by the collar. I didn’t think he would go that far! They are friends, are they not??? However, it’s a blur after that. The next thing I know, Namki is across the room bleeding, and the others are in the room! I don’t even know when they got in the room! I don’t know how long the fight was or who was hitting who, but Jeongseok held Yunjun back. Minhyun was trying to get Namki to respond to him, but he-,” I rattled off, speaking faster with each sentence that I let out.

My boss’s face changed from a wave of fuming anger to an expression of understanding and distress. “Whoa whoa whoa; slow down! Are you telling me it happened again???”

It? What does she mean by that?

“What on Earth are you talking about, Unnie-nim?” That is when the realization hit me about the one thing it could be.

No. No, there is no way that can be possible. It has not happened for years!

“Melody-ah,” she let her hands drop to her side, “When was the last time you took your epilepsy medication? I think you may have had an absence seizure.”
