Approaching calamity

After hearing what Asher said, while Aylin was too engrossed by the supernatural nature of the Delphians, Aelia realised something else. If the Delphians were the Guardians of human civilization, then didn't that mean the humans had someone whom they needed to be protected from.

Aelia asked with a frown, "And whom do the Delphians protect the humans from?"

Azrael sighed and thought he really could not hide anything from his intelligent sister. Initially, he had hoped that Aelia would just gloss over this fact, but he was wrong.

Asher too had mixed feelings about this. He was proud that his woman was so intelligent to understand the meaning behind the words, but he also realized that it would be very difficult to hide something from his angel. He knew that Aelia was competent enough to handle everything, but still, he could not help himself from trying to hide the ugly and undesirable side of the world from her. Nevertheless, he knew that the best way to protect Aelia was to let her know about everything so that she could prepare herself from early on and would not be caught off-guard later.

So Asher explained, "My angel, always, remember the fact that nature and this world has a balance. Wherever there is good, there will be evil and the opposite also holds true. Once, when the world was on the verge of a great disaster, some humans were granted powers to protect the human race. Later they congregated together to form the nation of Delphia. Even after the disaster was overcome, the Delphians retained their power over the generation.

However, since the first disaster nothing major has happened in the world. The last time was when Limulus and his companions fought with Ankou."

Aelia asked with a thoughtful look, "Since nothing has happened since the Ankou incident, why are the Delphians still protecting the human race so diligently? I mean about a millennium and a half has passed since the fight of Limulus against Ankou. And why did the Delphians suddenly close off their country from the humans?"

Asher looked at Aelia with a warm expression that showed he was proud that Aelia was asking this question.

Seeing his admiring gaze on her, Aelia's cheeks became tinted with red, while Azrael glared at Asher who was shamelessly trying to flirt with his sister, in front of everyone.

He smirked at her blushing visage and continued while folding his arms across his chest, "Well, this is a controversial topic. According to the records left by Limulus' companions, they had completely defeated Ankou, but when my father, Emperor Livius went through the records kept in the Emperor's Private Library after his ascension, he found a record left by Limulus himself that told a different story. This record claimed that they had not completely defeated Ankou, but sealed him in a secret location. The specifics of the location are not mentioned though."

Aelia asked with a frown, "Your Highness, can I then assume that closing off the country from the humans has something to do with this?"

Asher nodded, "It's a part of the reason! You see, it's not recently that Delphia has closed its borders to the outsiders. We closed our borders about five hundred years ago when our Divinors started getting divination that a calamity was approaching the human world and it was best if we would close our borders, as the calamity might be already disguised within the humans. It was better if we closed off our country to the outsiders, so that we won't be caught off-guard by sudden attacks from the enemy. If we are caught off-guard and something happens to us, the ordinary humans would have no one left to protect them."

Aelia nodded in understanding.

Aylin asked curiously, "But five hundred years have passed and the calamity did not happen. Could the divination from five hundred years ago be a false alarm?"

Asher shook his head with a serious expression.

"The divination was given by the then Duke of the Ramis family. They are the Ducal House of Divinors and the divination given by the Dukes of Ramis family are never wrong. In fact, there's another incident that is indicating that the calamity will possibly be in our generation.

You know, how Limulus and his associates had elemental powers along with their respective abilities! Well, after them their successors did not inherit those elemental powers. So, the Delphians concluded that since the danger had been eliminated, those powers were no longer necessary and thus not given to the future successors. However, recently these powers started emerging again. I, myself have control over water."

After saying this, Asher raised his palm and a sprinkle of water came out of his hands. He controlled the flow of water against gravity and created the shape of a rose and then froze it into a rose-shaped ice sculpture. Seeing the look of wonder on his angel's face, he smiled and gave it to her.

Aelia involuntarily blushed, but could not help being enchanted by the ice rose. It was so intricately carved, that it looked real and had a lustrous bluish tinge that made it sparkle like a diamond. It was certainly one of the most fascinating things, she had seen in her life.

Azrael could no longer continue to see Asher acting like this towards his lovely sister. He wanted to shout and call him a scoundrel, but restrained himself on thinking that it would not be good to call the Crown Prince of the most powerful country a scoundrel. So, he settled with a scowl.

To distract Aelia from Asher's flirtations, he said, "Besides His Highness, the successor of the Ducal House of Alekhin, Julian Alekhin has also inherited the elemental power of lightning. Ellis Belmont, the successor of the Ducal House of Belmont has inherited the power over the air."

Aelia nodded to indicate that she understood the situation. She said, "Since these powers have reemerged, it can be concluded that a critical situation is approaching or has already begun."
