Cousin?
Nathaniel was at a loss on what to do to help Maya, this was not how he wanted things to play out. All he could do for now was to hold her and let her cry.
"Leave us," Nathaniel told Jay as the former bowed and left, giving the couple some privacy.
It took a few minutes, but Maya eventually stopped sobbing and Nathaniel released her from his arms.
"Do you want to hear more?" he asked, he felt like there might be more information in the conversation, but he was afraid that it would break Maya even further.
Maya shook her head as she tried to gather herself.
"No, no more," she told him as she closed her eyes and took several deep breaths.
"But what if he's just acting? Maybe he isn't that willing to—" Nathaniel was cut off mid-sentence as Maya began to laugh.
He looked at her and raised a questioning eyebrow.
