Chapter 40 - How To Obtain Antidote
"P-poison? Are you sure?"
Now Violet understood why the Sage was secretive. Poison means that someone was aiming for the duke's life, the assailant might be hidden next to them all this time. Everyone working in the castle, including the common maids, butler, servants, kitchen staff and even knights could be the culprit.
But how could it be?
Nathan had the same disease as his mother who died when he was only five years old. She personally set the story that way, there was never a mention of poison.
Was the enemy watching the Ashford family all these years? Has it been planned since the Duchess was still alive?
"I'm sure of it… I would never misdiagnose this," the elder answered with a bitter expression. He had first-hand experience fighting against the toxin and still lost.
"It's a slow-acting poison, the duke was probably poisoned years ago."
"But… there must be a way, right?" Violet was hopeful. "Can't you just give us an antidote?"
