Chapter 12

“She’s only going to get them dirty again,” Bobby said. “Why bother?”

Zach and Jason answered at once, surprising one another, “Ants.”

Jason explained further, “They’ll follow the trail of Cheerios and we’ll have to move. I don’t do pesticides, except for organic ones in the house.” Jason got up, picked up the stray Cheerios, and put them in the trash can. When he scouted out the location he made sure the trash can was located as far from their blanket as it could get. He came back swatting at a few bees. “It’s nasty over there. Don’t they ever empty the garbage? People put uneaten food in there, it could draw vermin this close to the water, to say nothing of the bugs.”
