Chapter 10 °•○● Abusing The Quest Board

"I guess the Nature Lover (Passive) ability automatically kicks in when certain conditions are met." When Eren look this scene from the outside, he could easily see what a working ability could do. He used to think that abilities, especially passive ones, were very basic.

Now his thoughts were slowly changing.

Matyev repeated the words "shake your leaves and dance" about ten times, in different sentences. And all the leaves on the tree began to tremble. A few seconds later, everything returned to normal as if nothing had happened.

Eren made Matyev repeat the same thing again and tried to analyze the magical connection to his words. However, this was not a magical technique but merely using a passive ability to influence the tree. Eren saw no magical energies or anything related to active skills.

He then thought for a few minutes. He couldn't see the abilities or character screens of the others. But presumably, due to his elven blood, the three of them had "Nature Lover (Passive) Skill just like him.

He asked Anais and Yana, like their brothers, to go to the tree and try the same thing. But the two girls struggled to replicate what their brothers had easily done. After repeating the same sentences 40-50 times, the tree only rustled a few leaves. Besides, the girls' sentences were not as fluent and natural as Matyev's.

"Either his passive ability is at a higher level or he has a much greater aptitude for magic. If I could see their stats, I could understand what magical things affect them the most. The stingy system!"

But one thing was for sure. Even if it had nothing to do with magic, racial abilities must differ from person to person. Who knows how much higher Matyev's ability level is than the girls'?

Eren was pleased that he had made an important discovery about passive abilities and their functions. But he couldn't be happy because each time he solved one mystery, dozens of new questions emerged.

Both girls and Matyev were laying on the ground with their arms spread out like birds, all of them breathing heavily. And the weirdest thing was that despite being elves with high tolerance to heat, they were sweating.

"What's wrong with you all?"

Eren got his answer when he heard the trio moaning and talking about their weak bodies. Whether it was active or passive, all magical abilities required "mana or energy".

"WILL YOU CARRY ME LIKE A PRINCESS, MASTER?" Yana, who looked 17-18 years old, screamed like a child. With more time passing, these supposed slaves with no memory or wisdom were changing and having their own personalities. Eren kept his thoughts to himself as ignoring the hot girl.

With a deep sigh, he turned his head to the tree.

Eren kneeled down to dispel any remaining doubts. Closed his eyes and touched the tree. He began to sing, selecting the most poetic sentences his mouth could follow. At first, he did it as an experiment. But then, he began to feel something and continued. Eventually, he remembered the music and images from a movie he had watched in his old world.

He added the song written by the famous red-haired singer for the Hobbit films to his sentences. When he ran out of ideas, he repeated his phrases from the beginning.

When Eren began to sing an entirely improvised song, he thought he had created a strange connection with the tree.

He thought the rustling leaves and the sensation he felt in his chest were the signs of magic and success.

The delusions grew until a branch of the tree moved and Eren was thrown to the side.

"Master!"

"Are you okay!"

The three slaves touched Eren's bleeding cheek and caressed his shocked face.

Eren was disappointed. He could not even control a single stupid tree.

A fuc*ing tree slapped me!

In my old world, if I uttered such a sentence, people would look at me as if I am crazy.

For a moment, Eren thought that Matyev's failure was due to his weakness. But it seemed that his nature-loving ability was not as innocent as it appeared to be.

Eren briefly believed he was more special and talented than his three slave-assistants. Perhaps he couldn't read their stat pages, but an inner voice urged him on.

The blow from the tree felt like a symbolic slap from the universe to snap him out of it, both physically and metaphorically painful.

After a few seconds, he focused on the words that appeared in his retina and sighed.

Eren didn't ask out loud. But the system's ignoring of the sentence made him gesture for Anais to sit on the ground. He prevented Yana from trying to climb onto his back and sat on the grass in front of the stone house himself. Then he asked out loud.

"Is there a limit on the number of different types of tasks that can be received per day?"

The moment he asked a real question, the feminine but strange voice of the system echoed in his head. It was still a scary and eerie experience, just like at first. It was like a ghost was licking the nape of his neck and whispering in his ear. It was both too deep inside his body and quite noisy.

Eren then imagined theoretically completing hundreds of quests in a day and using the rewards. Then he stood up and started walking towards the empty land behind the stone house.

He was aware of Anais' somewhat perverted glances towards him in the last half hour. Or the sexy body of Yana that looked like a fruit ready to be picked since yesterday. If things went as he wanted, he would have a lot of spare time to spend from now on.
