205 Escaping the Lab

"W-wait! Rescue me as well!" screamed a man from one of the rooms that they passed.

Lucifer turned to the Reapers and asked, "Do any of you recognize him?"

All of them shook their heads in disagreement. Seeing this, Lucifer decisively ignored the call for help from the man. He wasn't a saint and couldn't accept the liability of a stranger being brought into the group.

Seeing that they were leaving, the man strapped in the room screamed, "You damn vermins will all rot in hell!" It turns out the man in the chair was the same commander who ordered the people in the base to leave the wall and fight. He no longer looked haughty and arrogant with his disheveled clothes and deranged eyes. It could be seen that just a few days in the lab was driving him closer to insanity.

Lucifer simply ignored the continuous calls as they made their way towards the exit. All the Reapers recognized Lucifer as he had been their leader in organizing the troops. They obediently followed behind him as he organized each of them. One of them had the ability to build an invisible shield so he took the lead position as they made their way out.

The most dangerous thing for them was to get hit by another dart, even more so than getting shot by a gun. The dart could disable them and their power, whereas a gun shot could simply kill them. After having heard the horror stories from the researchers on their plans for each of them, they shivered at the thought of getting caught again. They would rather die.

The guards began to converge on them as they progressed towards the exit at breakneck speeds. Lucifer used his ability to throw each of them out of the way as they made their way out.

By this time, Noah also heard about the escape and was making her way towards them as well. Lucifer grimly ordered everyone to speed up their exit and they soon reached the lobby. Expecting the door to be secure like before, Artemis took the lead to walk out and open the door from the outside.

Soon, they made their way out, leaving a trail of white bodies behind them. None of them were left alive as they had all knowingly injured and ran inhumane tests for an insane person.

Noah made it out of the lab just in time to see Lucifer and the others exit the white lab building. She roared in anger before grabbing a phone and called up General Mills. "My lab experiments escaped. Put the base on high alert and BRING. THEM. BACK. TO. ME."

On the other side of the phone, General Mills simply responded, "Yes Ma'am." before hanging up. He had a bellyful of laughter as he heard this and laughed a good two minutes before recollecting himself and dialing a second number. "We have escaped infected. Red alert."

As everyone below him got into action, he sat back into his chair and laughed for another few minutes. This was the first time he had seen that demon sociopathic scientist lady get the short end of the stick.

Lucifer and the others were hiding in a tent as Artemis scouted the area in his white researcher uniform. No soldier in the wall base wanted to come in contact with any of Noah's researchers, so he was able to move around with relative ease.

After scouting the area, he headed back towards where Lucifer and the others were. He reported, "They have strengthened their guard and everyone is on high alert. All the guards are focused on keeping us from entering the city."

"Sh*t! What should we do?!" shouted a Reaper in frustration. "I came here for a better life, not to get held captive."

Lucifer used his powers to direct a knife towards the Reaper's throat as he glared. "If you want to die. Die alone. Otherwise, sit down and stop making a commotion." His prestige had grown during the time that he trained the troops, so everyone knew how capable and ruthless Lucifer could be.

During their training, there were a few soldiers who refused to listen to him and even accused him of being a traitor. They were also the same soldiers who instigated Aida's anger. Seeing this situation, Lucifer decisively killed the chicken to warn the monkeys. He broke those soldiers legs and told them they should crawl out of here before he took their lives.

Recalling this, the Reaper slowly took a seat with his head buried in his hands and sat there silently. The other Reapers were also in similar conditions. All of them came here either to try to live a new life or to search for their family members in hopes that they had survived.

Artemis was watching on impatiently, he didn't care about the psychological states of these irrelevant people. He only cared for Aida who had been caught and needed saving. Who knew what those crazy men in suits would do to a poor defenseless girl like Aida.

Seeing Artemis' agitation, Lucifer also understood his internal struggles. He distracted Artemis by asking for more information on what happened to Aida. This would be critical information for them to know before attempting to break into the city.

Artemis explained how he and Aida had been waiting at the safehouse for his and Ace's arrival when Xiao Ai had discovered that there was a notice out for escaped Variants at the base. Aida had been heading towards the base when someone ambushed the safe house and kidnapped Xiao Ai. He then explained how he worked with Aida to break into government hall and rescued Xiao Ai only to get caught by another group of mysterious people after Aida suddenly lost consciousness. Before he lost consciousness, he heard the mysterious people say they would hold onto Aida and Xiao Ai while killing him off.

Lucifer nodded as he heard the explanations and asked questions along the way. By this point in time, Lucifer was 100% certain that Artemis wasn't bluffing when he said he was Aida's companion. Only her closest circle of people would know so much about her plans and about Xiao Ai. He knew just how protective she was of her little bun.

"It seems a lot happened while I was hiding away in the base. Ace also disappeared. When we get into the city, we will have to look for him as well," Lucifer commented calmly.
