A minimum wage is a very nice concept. It pretty defines the starting point and bare minimum of what you can earn. The country with the highest minimum wage is Australia with $14.14 per hour. The lowest however goes to Sierra Leone and is just absurd. It is a meager $0.03 per hour. It is a country on the upper eastern coast of Africa. When the minimum wage is so low that it is pretty much free labor, it shouldn't be enforced as a law. India is slightly better with a minimum wage of $0.28 per hour and is the lowest amongst other larger economies. It is very astonishing how worthless a minimum wage can be but at the same time, like in the case of Australia, it can help its citizens maintain a decent lifestyle. And then there are countries like the US that add exceptions to the rule and thereby making them kind of useless. By giving waiters and waitresses a much lower minimum wage, they force the consumers to pay the difference. Without tips, waiters wouldn't be able to make a living, but isn't that the point of a minimum wage? On days with low customers, the waiters are the ones who suffer the most.
