" What are we going to do guys?" Bart asked as he looked at the giant magnetic sentinel coming towards Utopia.
" Let me spell it out for you. The real X-Men won't make it back to Utopia in time. It's just us students and cyclops now. We are children. We need to evacuate now. There're no blackbirds left. So, we're going to have to be organized. I've got a plan." Laurie was explaining to everyone present.
Hope looked at the girl and sighed as she began to pull her gun from its holster. " You're eighteen, Laurie. You're old enough to be a soldier if you want to be." Hope told the girl as she handed her the pistol.
" Yeah? And idie's fourteen. Think what she's already done. Forget how he looks-- Gabriel's sixteen. Sixteen!" Laurie exclaimed angrily she then reached out and took the gun from Hope. " I'm not a pacifist. I believe some things are worth fighting for. But this? It's a stupid rock in the ocean. It's not worth it." Laurie explained as she cocked Hope's gun. " We should run." Laurie stated as she handed the gun back.
" I agree. Mostly. It is a stupid rock." Kenji stated as he walked up to the two girls. " Alas. It's our stupid rock. Didn't anything in the museum sink in? All those dark futures are based around people just accepting it. Thinking it won't get worse. Thinking about surviving, without thinking where that eventually leaves them. The world's watching. We run and it says, hey you can build machines to hunt and kill mutants. In other words, build machines to hunt and kill mutants, it works. And we're one step closer to genocide. We stand and fight? We show what's ours is ours. And get to punch a death camp on legs in the face." Kenji explained to the group.
" Oh, man. I can't exactly say I'm excited about running into a giant killer robot." Bart stated.
" This is a hellish world, Bart. And unlike you the rest of us can't keep running It'll only make things worse." Kenji explained.
" You know what? You can stay Kenji. You all can stay, but this isn't a decision Idie gets to make. When I ran last time, I left you behind. I'm not doing that again. Come on, Bart. We're leaving." Laurie stated as she Idie and Bart began to walk away.
" No, Lauire. You're staying." Hope said to the girl making Laurie stop in her tracks.
Laurie's body froze and she suddenly turned around confusing Bart.
" You total Bitch. You know I can't say "no" and you're doing it anyway." Laurie stated.
" Wait? What do you mean?" Bart asked.
" It doesn't matter right now. It doesn't end here. We don't end here. It can't end here." Hope explained to the three.
Laurie turned and walked away as Hope talked with Idie.
" I think Idie can make up her own mind." Hope stated.
" Hope, she's fourteen. She's still a kid. You can't pressure her into fighting." Bart exclaimed.
" Let's see if she feels that way. Idie. What do you think? What do you really think?" Hope asked the girl.
Idie turned away and Hope placed a hand on her shoulder. Idie stood silent for a few seconds before finally speaking up. " We should stay together. We're family, right?" idie replied to the girl.
" Thank you." Hope said as she hugged the young girl. " Then we fight and unless you two want to leave her, you fight with us." Hope said to the two who had wanted to leave.
" You know, Hope I told you..." Laurie stated as she balled up her fist. " I'm only like you when I'm around you." Laurie said to Hope before punching her in the face
Hope reeled back and grabbed her mouth as blood leaked down from her lip. " What?" Hope asked in shock.
" The only surprise is that your surprised that people want to do this to you." Laurie said as she kicked Hope in her stomach. Hope coughed and grabbed Laurie's leg, she then flipped Laurie onto her back and mounted her.
" You're not a fighter. Stop it." Hope told the girl as she brought her fist up.
Before Hope could punch Laurie, Bart shoulder bashed the girl off of Laurie and made her roll across the ground. " Knock it off." Bart told the girl as she got to her feet. Bart then turned and helped Laurie to her feet. " Are you alright?" Bart asked the girl.
" I'm fine. Thank you, Bart." Laurie said to the boy as she brushed the dirt off of her body. " I guess we have no choice now do we. Once again, Hope deciding what's best for everyone. Fine we fight. But you are right about one thing. It doesn't end here." Laurie explained to Hope.
" We were wondering which way the new kids are leaning. The debating process looks kind of familiar." David stated as he and the rest of Generation X Showed up to fight. Rockslide/Santo. Anole/victor. Dust/Sooraya. Prodigy/David. Pixie/Megan.
" Fight!" Teon exclaimed.
" Yeah. I can see that. But what are you doing next?" David asked.
" We're going to tell Cyclops he's got himself some X-Men." Hope replied.
" It's a stupid rock. But it's our stupid rock." Bart stated as he helped Laurie stand.
" Sounds familiar. Including the stupid rock thing." Victor stated.
" They said this is a stupid rock! And I said what's wrong with stupid rocks?" Santo asked.
" Everyone thought it was terribly inappropriate timing." Sooraya explained.
" I always wondered why we didn't mingle much. When it's clear we're not too different." David exclaimed.
" Everyone going to fight?" Hope asked the man.
" If it comes to it. I think so. I mean, Hellion is pretty angry about the situation but Hellion's angry about everything." David explained to the girl.
" He's got a good reason. because he knows the cost, like." Megan explained as she looked down at her injured hands. " You know normally, I could save the day with a little magical teleportation. The old sihal novarum chinoth. I could bring the X-Men back up here in a blink. Without painkillers, it hurts too much to concentrate. With them I'm all muddled up. And I can't do the finger wiggles anymore." Megan explained as she lifted up her casted hands. " Hellion's down on this, because he knows the costs. I was out with the teams, and if one of those old sentinels was a little closer to me, I'd be paying what he did." Megan explained as she talked about how Hellion had lost both of his hands. " Instead of being pixie. I'd be the amazing no-hands girl. And that thing? It's going to be messy. You go and fight that, it's not even worrying that you're going to get messed up. Some are probably going to get killed." Megan explained to the group the dire consequences of being the hero.
" Oh, man. If that was your attempt at trying boost morale I gotta say you suck at it." Bart stated as he continued watching the sentinel approach the island.
" So, you're going to run?" Hope asked.
" Hell, no. I'm going to fight. I'm an X-Man. But everyone needs to remember what that means." Megan explained to the girl.
The group all turned and looked out at the looming creature.
" Okay, let's go tell Cyclops." Hope said to the group.
" Oh, man I'm really feeling the mode." Bart groaned as he turned to walk away.
" The mode?" Megan asked as she walked next to the boy. " Is that bad?"
" Yeah, girl. Always better to crash the mode than feel it. Nice accent by the way. Welsh. I wanna say you're from Wales." Bart told the woman as he guessed her heritage.
" Nice guess. And thank you." Megan told the boy.
" Are those real?" Bart asked as he pointed at Megan's pixie wings.
Megan looked back and smiled. " Yes, they are." Megan replied as her wings fluttered.
" They're beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen anything so majestic." Bart said to the girl.
Megan's pink skin turned slightly purple at the boy's blunt words. " Thank you, Bart? Right? It's nice to finally meet you." Megan said to the boy.
" Nice to meet you too?" Bart said to the girl.
" Megan. Megan Gwynn. Or Pixie. Either works." Megan said to the boy.
" Well, Megan If we survive today, I look forward to getting to know you." Bart said to the girl before walking up to Laurie. and Kenji. " You guys ready for this?" Bart asked the two.
" No, but we don't have a choice anymore. Hope's taken it away from us." Laurie said to the boy.
After a few minutes of walking and seeing Scott blast the sentinel with the largest Optic Beam he's ever fired, the students arrived on the beach to help.
" Alert Atlantis and everyone left on Utopia we have incoming. Brace for impact." Scott declared.
" I hope you don't think you're fighting that thing alone. You want X-men? You got X-Men." Hope said to Cyclops as she and the other students arrived to Help.
" Not by choice by the way." Bart added on before going quiet again.
Scott looked at the students quietly for a second before speaking up. " All right. We can do this." Scott stated.
" No, you can't." Logan said to the man as he climbed out of the sea.
" That thing isn't stopping, Logan." Scott said to the man.
" No, it ain't. Which is why you gotta evacuate Utopia." Logan said to the man.
" We can fight it." Scott replied back.
" Not with children we can't." Logan replied in anger.
" You see children, I see X-men." Scott stated.
" Damn it, Scott, don't play games with me! They're kids, and they're gonna get themselves killed!" Logan yelled at the man.
Scott stood in front of the students as Logan was scaring them. " You're scaring them." Scott told the man.
" Good! They damn well oughtta be scared! I don't give a rat's ass how many sentinels are coming. I will stand here with till the last damn breath, Scott. You know that. But not with them. Send those kids outta here." Logan explained to the man in an attempt to sway him away from using the children as soldiers.
" And where would you have us run to, Logan?" Scott asked the man.
" We don't have time for this!" Logan yelled.
" Look at the state of the world. Every country on the globe is now openly armed against us. We run now, we'll always be running. At least here we've still got a fighting chance." Scott explained to the man.
" Running, I can live with. So long as those kids see tomorrow." Logan replied.
" If we run, how many tomorrows you think they have left? We drew a line in the sand, remember? This is it!" Scott explained to Logan
" I've done everything you've ever asked me to do. I've kept your secrets. I've lied to my friends. I've killed who you said kill. I did all that so they wouldn't have to!" Logan explained to the man.
The two men continued arguing despite the approaching danger.
" You think that thing cares how old they are, Logan? You think it'll stop to ask before it wipes us off the map? When you stand on the brink of extinction, you can no longer afford the luxury of noncombatants." Scott explained to Logan.
" You sonuva bitch!" Logan cursed
" If you're so concerned about their fighting skills, then teach them! Lead them! Instead, you blow off every class I assign you!" Scott yelled at the man
" We wouldn't even be in this situation, if you hadn't put us in it, with your arrogant little games!" Logan yelled at the man.
" Can we say something?" Hope asked.
" NO!" Logan yelled at the girl
" I've heard enough. Anyone who wants to leave go. Anyone who wants to fight... Stand with me." Scott declared his ultimatum angrily.
Logan looked in Scott's eyes and then walked away cursing the man.
" Well, that was really productive. Way to go team!" Bart jeered.
" Don't worry about him, Bart. Focus on the present everyone. Do you know how many sentinels I've blown up over the years? More than I can count. We can beat this thing. So long as we stand together." Scott explained to the kids.
' Wish, I had the same feeling. Guess you're in the deep end now Bart.' Bart thought to himself as he turned and looked out at the approaching giant sentinel.
" ARAAAAAARGH!!!!!" The loud screams of Quentin Quire getting slashed by Logan could be heard.
" What was that?" Laurie asked in a panic.
" Never mind focus on the plan. Here it comes." Scott said to the students. " I know it's not fair to ask this much of you. I wish we lived in a world where you could all act your age. But such is not the hand we've been dealt. And I just want you all to know, I'm proud to stand beside you today. Each and every one of you. Now, let's send this thing to hell on my mark." Scott explained to the kids.
As they prepared to fight Bart was in deep thought on how he could take down the sentinel. Trying to find each and every possible way to keep casualties low. ' I'm thinking maybe I could take it apart piece by piece? No, it seems like some kind of magnetic field is keeping the metal all together. No, more than thought something is affecting the magnetic field around it. Sucking in more and more metal. What can we do to keep that thing from just reforming again?' Bart thought to himself.
However, before any of the gathered Mutants could act, Logan returned in his suit with a remote detonator in his hands.
" I tried asking nicely. I'm not asking anymore, Scott. I'm telling you. Everybody get off this island now! I just armed 2000 pounds of plastic explosives. And when that thing gets close enough, I'm blowing it all to hell. It's over." Logan explained to the group. " So, tell Danger and Dr. Rao to start evacuating. Tell them they don't have long." Logan said to the kids who all started running away
" But." idie tried to argue.
" GO!" Logan demanded.
Bart and the others ran as fast as they could to try and get to the other side of the Island and evacuate. ' Come on, Bart you're smart. You move fast. Think fast. how can we shut this thing off.' Bart thought to himself as he ran. ' That's it!' Bart thought to himself. He suddenly stopped running and everyone turned to look at him.
" Bart what is it? You heard, Logan we have to go." Laurie said to the boy.
" Hahahah!" Bart laughed. " I have an idea. A crazy, crazy idea." Bart told the girl.
Hope finding intrigue in Bart's declaration stepped forward. " Well? What do you have in mind?" Hope asked the boy.
" Well, the machine is being kept up by an electromagnetic field. What would happen if we destroyed or more likely disrupted it's magnetic field?" Bart asked the girl.
Hope's eyes widened at the meaning behind Bart's words. " An Emp." Hope stated.
" Right. Come on. Let's head back!" Bart exclaimed as he ran back towards the beach. " Hey, I have an idea!" Bart yelled to Logan and Scott who were in the process of fighting the machine and each other.
" What are they doing?" Hope asked as she and the others finally caught up to Bart.
" We don't have time for that. Everyone! Push this thing off the island!" Bart yelled.
The students on the Island began fighting the robot. The Cuckoos used their diamond forms to punch at the sentinels feet. Idie used her fire and ice to burn and blow away pieces of the robot. Hope used her many guns to blast the sentinel. Seeing the students working together, Logan and Scott joined them in fighting the machine. Bart on the other hand was in the process of running around the sentinel, building up lightning and electrons in the area around it.
" What's he doing?" Scott asked as he watched Bart running.
" Building up energy for the mother of all EMPs." Hope explained to the man.
" All right! I'm ready, everyone back!" Bart yelled to the others. The students backed away from the giant killing Machine and Bart ran right towards it. With a little help from Nehzno, Bart flew right into the sentinel's chest and released the built-up energy resulting in a massive wave of energy releasing from his body.
The sentinel and all electronics on Utopia all shut down at once. As the giant Machine started falling, Bart caught himself and ran down its body and back onto the beach.
" Oh my god."
"Is it..."
"Did we really?"
" We did it!"
" Yes!"
" Holy crap!"
" In your face, you giant robot piece of shit!"
" We did it!"
" We won!"
" We won!"
" We saved the day!"
The students all cheered as they looked at the wrecked machine in pride
" Woohoo! You did it Bart!" Laurie yelled as she hugged the boy.
" Thanks, didn't know if that'd work or not." Bart stated in disbelief.
The fires from the fight slowly died down and with the X-men returning in waves and those who were injured waking up, everyone began fixing the physical damages done to Utopia. However, nothing could fix the damages done to the trust in Utopia. The next two days where filled with Many events.
And on the last day, everyone on the Island would be forced to Choose a side. Will they go with Wolverine? Or will they remain with Cyclops on Utopia.
