To keep the Omnitrix from him, she jettison's the device - sending it toward Earth. Then, to distract Vilgax, she would counterattack. This would succeed in gravely injuring him and rendering him out of commission. Fortunately, this also gave her the time needed to reach an escape pod and follow in pursuit of the Omnitrix - crash landing on Earth as well."

Due to exposure to Earth's yellow sun, he began exhibiting superpowers such as flight, super strength, heat vision, x-ray vision, super speed, and super durability around the onset of puberty. Then, at the age of 25, he would become the superhero Superman."

The affects of the mutation typically begin showing signs during puberty but the meta-gene can also become active as a result of trauma."
