Wrath of the Crimson Brotherhood

The light from the TV down the hall barely reached my room. The darkness was barely penetrated by the flickering light, but within the dim lighting I saw it. As always it's unseeing eyes watched me. It's pale body protected by its metal armour. A crimson red cloak hanging loosely off its shoulders. In its unfeeling grip was clutched around the handle of its sword, as well as a tattered standard, it's cry emblazoned across its cloth. Thankfully, it imprisoned in its cage of ink I was safe, but all I had to do to unleash its immortal rage was to read its standard. The standard that, I now knew for myself, said the following. 'Fool you are mortal for reading this cloth, however you will now be blessed by a visit from a silent apparition in the dead of night to seal your fate. May your gods damn your soul for letting me free. But may you forever live in a state of undeath such as I in an world of swords and sorcery. -Sanguine of the Crimson Brotherhood'

Chapter Four- 'Exploring'

Breakfast the next morning was a large and healthy one. Consisting of some form of sausage, eggs, bread, fruit, hashbrowns, and some drink that wasn't water, but wasn't quite juice either.

The discussion at the table was a fairly normal 'what is happening today' kind of conversation.

By the end of it, the decision was for Kira to stay with the man's wife, while Carver would go with him and see the Watch Master.

On the way they passed lots of people that called out to the man.

"Good morning Vald!"

"Top of the morning Vald!"

"Don't forget your debt Vald!"

"Have a good day Vald!"

"Here's some food for your friend Vald, he's looking pale."

"New recruit Vald? Train 'im well.

Various exchanges happened as they walked.

Eventually they reached a building that had the word 'BARRACKS' on a sign above the door. The building looked small for keeping soldiers to Carver but he followed Vald anyway.

Inside a receptionist saw them and waved him past. "You know where to find him Vald, don't push this one too far, eh?"

Vald nodded, "Hello to you too 'Mr.secretary', have a good day." They had started going down a flight of stairs when Carver heard cursing from the man behind the desk.

Finally they reached a door after several minutes of walking. Vald turned to him. "I'm doing the talking, you're getting the training. Got it?"

Carver nodded, "Yes."

Vald patted his shoulder, then slammed his fist on the door three times. "Come in." A raspy voice said from the other side.

As Vald opened the door to let them in, a plume of smoke hit them. Coughing he cursed. "Jeez Joe, you promised your wife you'd quit."

The man, older but not over 50 at most by appearance, put out a poor looking cigar. "Vald! What has brought you here today? Another boy you want me to demote? They need to learn, and they can't do that if you pull them away from the wall."

Vald shook his head, "No, today I brought you a new prospect. He came out of the woods with his sister, orphans now. Figured you could use a new project." He stepped off to the side, gesturing at Carvers average form.

The older man, supposedly named Joe looked him over, noting his pale completion, thin frame, and relatively unimpressive aura.

"I guess I could work with him. Send him to the training grounds and I'll have a little test run with the boy."

Vald nodded. "See you later Joe."

The man for a little angry. "Who's Joe! How many times do I have to tell you my name!"

As they were leaving Carver heard him say "Joe? Joe mama. One is these days I'll teach your a lesson, brat."

Vald brought him to a large room, it's only furnishing a weapon rack on the side with old looking weapons of every variety.

Vald left them with only the instruction to wait,  and not touch the weapons. So as soon as he was left alone, he examined them all closely, without touching them.

Carver looked at all the weapons to figure out which was which after the system message. Most of them were easy to figure out, but others, like the swallow, was more difficult to find. After finding that there was a catalogue of what was where and how many there were he found them. There were two kinds, one looked like a sword attached to the end of a stick on both ends, and the other was like a double sided halberd.

He pulled all the weapons he could use out and thought of pros and cons.

Daggers had a close range, but could be dual wielded and thrown. Finesse and practise would be needed, and weak points on armours would need to be researched.

Knives were much the same, just even smaller. However they could be better concealed and used for other things, such as cooking.

Scythes are another matter, they are a polearm with a curved blade, so in small spaces they would be difficult to properly use. However, given proper space they have great ability to chop heads, and other bits that are sticking out, off.

Gauntlets are for hand to hand combat, considering his new inhumane stats and ability for growth this would make a lot of sense if he wanted to be lazy and do little practice, but it would be a good choice to optimise his stat use, much like if he were to use the daggers or the knives.

Garotte Wire would be difficult to use in most situations, however with proper hand to hand training they could be used amongst fights for strangulation and slicing of areas. For example they could easily use it on a poorly armoured opponent to take parts off of their legs to cause severe bleeding and slow them down, or off their arms to hinder their attacks, etc.

Swords are vercitial and can be used in many ways, so considering it is labeled as one thing in the system he would be able to use all of them, therefore essentially having the ability to use different kinds appropriate to the situation.

Swallows are more unwieldy, they are bizarre in the way they look, and appear to look like it would be difficult to use. If he wanted to throw off the opponent and put them at a loss at what to do they could use one of these. In addition if he got one personalized he could get one that split into two swords, and then can be combined back into the swallow.

As he thought more about it, if he wanted to optimise his use, he should choose swords. That way he could get the most of his choice, and really, if he got them customized, he could also use them as a swallow.
