Softly, the noise of arguments slipped deeper into Walter's mind. After a long while of being knocked out, his body slowly began gaining its senses.
At first, it was his ears that began tuning, before the voices got audible. He was in severe pain, dim light was even blinding to him.
Where am I? he wondered.
He didn't move or make any sound so as to look unconscious, he needed to hear what the arguments were about.
"How could you have let him escape?"
"He was very fast, and strong,"
"There were over 20 of you, how could you have let that happen?"
"He killed part of us, but fled. He was really strong."
"You had horses, couldn't you chase after him?"
"We tried to, he was still faster "
"We could've caught John, the brain of that group, and would have cornered the White Knight. But you guys messed up big time."
"If he was that strong, how powerful would the white Knight be? We must be prepared for him,"
"We certainly can't face someone like him with this kind of squad."
"How do we explain his escape to the queen?"
Walter thought to himself, I'm no longer with the white Knight? Whose hands am I in now?
Oh Good Lord, what have I gotten myself into?
While his eyes were still shut tight,
"Perhaps we should kill him…and feed on his flesh." a third voice added.
Walter quickly opened one of his eyes to see if it was him they referred to. On opening that eye, his eye and the third lady's eyes locked. She was staring directly at him. He quickly shut his eyes.
"I know you're awake," she said, walking up to his bed where he lay, then sat beside him.
"How do you feel?" she asked, placing her hands on his cheek, before sliding them to his neck, "You're a bit feverish."
Walter opened his eyes on hearing that. He then looked at her face.
She looked in her teens. She had braided hair and had a very beautiful brown skin. However, she had a scar across her face, but she was still beautiful. She seemed tall, and skinnier than the regular warrior of the underworld.
Why is she nice to me?
Wait a minute, have I seen her before? She looks familiar…from a distance.
"Have we met before?" He asked.
"You've forgotten me so soon?"
"I'm sorry…please remind me. Do you know me..."
"Are you for real now? I know you joke a lot, but if this one is, please stop it," she said.
Walter sat up, already feeling guilty.
"I didn't mean it that way. I've been beat up all through my time here, I'm dying to meet someone who actually knows me. So please, who are you?"
"Your dad." struggling to hold in laughter, she said.
"Wait, what the…ugh!" Walter said, laying back down.
"Adeola! Stop flirting with that boy. We've got a serious matters on our hands." one of the other two ladies yelled.
"Byeee," she said, standing up and quickly returning to the others.
I'm not tied down…I'm not being tortured…who are these people? Walter kept wondering, as he kept a close eye on them. They were all women.
"Let's ask him what he knows," One of them said.
"Right!" they all agreed, as the three of them walked into the room.
"Hello, my name is Frances. This is Josephine, and that's Adeola. We're sisters. What's your name? How do you feel now?"
"I'm Walter. Better." Walter responded lowly.
"What do you know about the guy that kept you hostage?"
Should I trust these girls? Walter wondered, How do I know they're not the same…or worse
"Don't you want to tell us?" Frances asked.
"It's not that at all. I really don't know much about them. I was unconscious most of my time with them. And the time I wasn't unconscious, they tortured me. So nothing much on them."
"But at least you know their names, right?" Josephine asked.
"Yes, there's John, there's Aaron, and the White Knight. I don't know his name,"
"Are you aware of their gifts?" Frances inquired.
"I'm only aware of the White Knight's. He can become invisible. That's all I know about him"
"So we heard. We know a little about John's gift; he's very fast. But what about Aaron's?"
"I don't know anything about his. But if being rude was a super power, he has that ."
"Okay…" Frances said, turning to the others, she continued, "Don't freak out. You're safe now. We're taking you to the Queen. She wants to see you."
"Look, I don't have any gifts. I'm not strong, and I don't know King Will. Believe me."
"If you weren't strong, Nicole wouldn't have had problems killing you."
"Look, I'm not entirely sure what's been happening down here. We loved each other. I think she didn't want to kill me, there's a huge misunderstanding somewhere."
"Well, I'm sorry to break it to you. She doesn't love you, she was following orders."
"Do you know her?" Walter asked.
"She's was my sister,"
"Your sister?"
"Yes"
"Then you must've been a part of her plan to bring me here,"
"Something like that."
"Why would anyone even do this to me?"
"She was following orders. Like I said."
"Whose orders? I still don't understand any of this. Why me?"
"You're Will's son aren't you?"
"I have never met that man in my entire life."
"He is the King of Jotunheim."
"I'm really sick of all this. So what do you plan on doing with me?"
"That is the Queen's decision to make."
"Who is this Queen then? My mother?" Walter asked.
"Haha," Frances laughed sarcastically, "Funny but no. She's our mother." She said pointing towards the 3 girls.
"Where is she?"
"We're on our way there."
"How many Queens does this place even have? I mean, why not just elect a president or something."
"Hmmm, that's a good question actually. You know what? When you meet the Queen, ask her yourself."
"I'm sorry," Walter said, figuring he was asking too many questions. "But for real, where are we? What's with this place? Smells kinda funky, the whorls on the wall, and all this slime dripping from it. What's this?" Walter asked as he got off the bed, standing.
"Come, follow me," Adeola said, taking him by the hand towards the exit of the room. On walking out of the room, they got outside. Walter looked straight forward and realized he could only see the clouds. He looked down, and they were on what looked like a very tall tree that didn't have many leaves. It moved so smoothly through the ground that it didn't feel like it was moving.
"Oh my God, how is this thing even moving? This tree is like bloody Burj Khalifa. What in Dubai's name is this?"
"It's a lot and you wouldn't understand. Don't even try to. Just enjoy the ride."
"Oh my God, the underworld isn't so bad. This height is beautiful!"
"Really?" Adeola asked, shocked.
"Yes, I'm an acrophiliac."
"The hell is that?" Adeola asked, giggling.
"I love heights, men!" He exclaimed, pointing to the flying creatures they were close to.
"Look at all those weird looking, demonic thingy's. I mean they look like goofy rabid pigeons.I'm this close to actually touching them. But I'm pretty sure I'll miss a finger or two if I tried that."
"I'm glad you figured."
"Look at them red clouds men. They look so poisonous. If i stick out my tongue them clouds finna send me to the pearly gates"
"That is also correct."
"See! We're staring down at those big ass looking mountains! My God I've always wanted to fly. I'm experiencing flight right here!"
"The last time I felt this ecstatic, Nicole…" Walter suddenly remembered as he stopped speaking, slipping into a sad mood.
"Look, don't be sad. She had no other–"
"Where is Nicole?" Walter asked, interrupting her, "Is she with the Queen?"
"How long have you been unconscious?"Adeola asked, shocked that he hadn't heard.
"Since I was captured, I've not been awake for up to 4 hours."
"So you haven't heard then?"
"Heard what?" He asked, raising his brows.
"You know what? The Queen is going to explain everything to you. But for now, just enjoy the ride. We're still a long way from our destination."
"This place… almost unrealistic. I mean, all these scenes…straight out of a dream."
"Maybe it is."
"A very long one perhaps." He concluded, as they both sat down to enjoy the beauty of their sky.
