Sakura

Sakura had not been able to sleep.
She had spent the entire night on her phone, then immediately changed to go on her laptop once the sun rose. She ignored all the calls from her mother, focusing intently on the unfolding news story in Australia.
Monsters. Real life monsters.
When she first saw the story unfold on the TV, she had been shocked. All she could do was watch, open-mouthed, as two boys fought against the kaiju with superpowers.
Yes. Literal superpowers.
In the back of her mind, Sakura had been a little annoyed. She had watched as one of them threw a giant fireball, causing a large explosion mid-air. She had watched as the other one skillfully manipulated ice to prevent the kaiju from destroying buildings, then using that power to shatter the monster into a fine, white mist.
How come they got to have cool, flashy superpowers? All she could do was make illusions.
