{Yin's POV}
My sisters and I left the house, and almost immediately went back in. For all of our bravado, Yang was in her casual wear, a yellow crop top and booty shorts, and Ruby was still in her sleepwear. No way in hell I was about to let either of them fight in those clothes. So after making sure they were in their huntsmen outfits, we left home, and started heading over to dad's location. He was in the market, getting us some groceries, so it took maybe ten minutes of running over to mete up with him.
Dad was in his huntsmen gear, and even had his weapon on him. ('Never leave home without it' seems like way more of a good thing now.) As soon as we saw him, Ruby burst into petals, and crashed into dad's side.
"Dad! Did you hear?" Part of my mind said that was a redundant question considering we called him earlier, but I didn't say anything about it. Dad held Ruby, and looked at the three of us.
"Yeah. You're going to fight aren't you." Even though that sounded like a question, it wasn't. He was saying it to himself mostly.
Yang pum...- "Yang... Why do you keep wasting shells? I SWEAR we've talked about that." Yang just blinked, looked down at the shell, and picked it up as she put it back into Ember Cecilia's ammo belt. The sheepish grin she gave me did not alleviate my deadpan.
"Ahaha... ANYWAY!" I rolled my eyes, and turned back to dad when he cleared his throat.
"Are you girls sure you want to fight? Absolutely sure?" Again, he knew our answers, he was just asking for himself. I got why, dad never really got over mom's death. Now there's this massive swarm of Grimm coming towards Patch? I'd be worried about us dying too. Kickass Werewolf powers be damned. The tree of us shared a look, then we answered.
"""Yes."""
"It's what mom would've done." The need to resurrect Summer grew even more.
"We can't just let those Grimm fuck with people."
"I'll make sure Ruby and Yang don't mess up."
""HEY!"" I snorted at that, and saw dad smile. It wasn't a full on accepting smile, he was still pained at the idea of us dying, but he wouldn't stop us.
"Alright. But the moment I'm done making sure the citizens are safe, I'm coming to help you." That was fine. Dad might've been worried for us, but as a huntsmen, he had to prioritize the people.
(Technically we do too, but we're kinda the reason this is happening in the first place, it only makes sense that we deal with it.) I shook off that thought, and looked at dad.
"Don't rush, we got this dad. You KNOW how strong we are now." He relaxed, just a bit though, and nodded.
"I do. But still, I can worry about my little girls." Yang snorted at that.
"Daaad, the only 'little' one here is Ruby. Right Yin." None of us missed the way she emphasized her bust as she said that. I rolled my eyes, Ruby made an indignant yelp, and dad smiled. He knew why Yang did that, and it worked. His shoulders relaxed, and he nodded.
"Alright. Just make sure you stay safe long enough for me to get to you."
"We will dad! Just you watch, we'll show you!" Ruby's enthusiasm was a hard thing to fight against. And dad didn't. So with a sigh, he gave Ruby one last hug, came over to hug me and Yang, and looked at all of us.
"Then show me how far you've all come." The three of us nodded, and then we were off.
From what the alert told us, there were two swarms coming from the north and south sides of the island. The huntsmen not helping with getting people into shelters were heading to the south, while my sisters and I shifted and started going to the north. (Though I might end up heading south if it looks like Yang and Ruby can handle the north. Patch has like ten or something active huntsmen, and there's no way they can handle five thousand Grimm on their own... But do I really leave my sisters to go help those huntsmen?) They could handle it, I knew that, but I was just as worried about them as dad was. I didn't show or voice it, but it was still there.
Yang barked at me, and that brought me out of my thoughts. 'You good?' I still had no idea how Yang could read me so well, but I chalked it up to twin nonsense.
'Yeah, just worried about the other side of the island.' Speaking in barks was still something weird to me. Yang hummed, and Ruby decided to join the conversation.
'We COULD split up.' Yang and I just turned to blink at her for that. 'What?'
'Rubes. When is splitting up EVER a good idea?' She just looked confused at that. Yang was right though. Especially in this instance.
'Now?' We looked at her, and she just stopped to look back. 'What's wrong with it?'
'Ruby. If I left, how could I fight without worrying about you and Yang?' Why was she giving me Saya's 'are you dumb' look?
'Party?' I paused. Then proceeded to bash my head into the ground.
(Why am I so stupid? Is that what Macky feels when he says some dumb shit? Did I LOSE brain cells after becoming a Werewolf?) It was both the simplest answer, and also the one that made the most sense. [Party Invite - Ruby Rose] [Party Invite - Yang Xiao-Long]
They accepted the invites, and I saw their bars appear under Maccillian's. Speaking of.
~Oh. Hey kids.~
~Hi Mr. Maccillian!~ Ruby did like the guy, so of course she went first.
~Heyo doggo dude!~
~... Hello to you too Yang.~ The three of snorted at his dry response.
[So, how far away are you old man?] He mentally grumbled at me, and the three of us shared a smile.
~Still far. Running on aura platforms is tedious business you know. What about you kids? The Grimm there yet?~
[No. They're a few minutes out though.]
~Oh, boring. Anyway, ready for your first army of enemies?~
~~[First?]~~ The hell did he mean by that?!
~You heard me. Fighting one on one is fine and all that. But fighting an army is just better. Really gets the blood flowing.~ We blinked, shared a look, and all wisely chose to ignore that.
~Anywaaay. Shouldn't you be at Atlas?~ Did I...? I did. I forgot to tell them about the situation at Atlas. Oops.
~I WAS at Atlas. Though this big ass turtle Titan showed up, and the girls decided to fight it and its army. I wasn't about to deal with a mutiny so I let them have it. Yin just gave me something to do.~
~~A TITAN!?~~ Oh god. I knew having someone shout in front of us hurt like a bitch, but imagine hearing two people shout IN YOUR MIND! It was like they point blank shouted into my ears with a megaphone.
~[FUCKIN HELL!/OH GODS.]~ Ruby and Yang realized what they just did, and sent me a sheepish smile... As sheepish a pair of wolves could get.
~~Sorry.~~
~Ugh. Whatever. Anyway, yes it was a titan. Big fucker too~
~Isn't that bad!?~
~Eh, the girls got it. Unless Salem pulls some shit out of her ass, they got it... I think.~
[You think?]
~Oh shut it. At worst, they run and I go nuke Salem.~ That was both an absurd thought, and one I found VERY in line with who Maccillian was. I was going to comment on that, but then I saw it. And my sisters must've noticed the way I tensed, as they looked the direction I was looking.
~You know... I know you're quest said ten thousand, but holy shit.~ I heard a mental snort, and Maccillian spoke a second later.
~Rookie numbers.~ This motherfucker!
~~Shut it old man!~~ Twin powers making themselves known once again.
~Pussies.~
[I'm kicking you in the dick when we get over this.]
~Good.~ That made us all pause.
~~[Huh?]~~
~You said 'when' not if. Werewolves don't worry about a battle. We go through it and come out of it with whatever or whoever we fought broken at our feet. The only reason I'm worried about my girls are cause I love them and its natural. For you three, you'll be fine. Even if I wasn't on my way, you'd manage somehow. So you all worrying about this is stupid in my opinion.~
That wasn't fair. He couldn't go from an annoying ass one minute to this serious leader the next. That was completely and utterly unfair!
~He's right! We're going to get through this, be the huntsmen we can be, and protect Patch!~ Ruby and her endless optimism was accepted. And they were both right.
We had this. So I looked at my sisters, shared a nod, and ran off to the other side of the island. It was time to show Salem she wasn't the top bitch in this world. (Heh.)
{Yang's POV}
We had this. I kept thinking that as Rubes and I kept running. With the good old dog man on his way, we had this.
Then we saw the SWARM of Grimm. Ten thousand is a big number. But you don't realize just how many that is until you see a cloud of death coming your way. (And that's only half of them.) But at the same time. (So what?) Rubes shifted back, planted Crescent Rose's tip into the ground, and started shooting at the closest Nevermore and Griffins.
Rubes didn't even take moments to start fighting. (So why should I wait?) My little sister was ready, and so was I. Shifting back was easy, looking for something to use wasn't. I was a power type, and most of the Grimm were in the air. So Wh...- "Well hellooo." A Sea Feilong came up out of the water, and I had the answer to my question.
What would I throw at the flying Grimm? Another Grimm. Easy.
I ran towards it, didn't care it was above the water, and jumped at it when it was in range. Ember Cecilia was ready, and so was I. A part of my mind told me this would look cool as shit if this was a movie scene, but I'd bring that up later. It was time to show this 'dragon' who was the better one when my fist hit the Feilong's head, and it CRUNCHED, I grinned when the fucker was sent FLYING back towards the swarm.
The Grimm went plummeting to the ground, and before I started falling, I used Ember Cecilia to blast me back to the shore. And when I got back, I saw Ruby's eyes light up. "THAT WAS AWESOME! DO IT AGAIN YANG!" I snorted.
"Sure. I'll just wait for another Sea Feilong to po...-" A Sea Feilong popped up. "Ok." Another one popped up after it. "Yeah... Why not?" Then there was another one... "OK! FUCK THIS!" I transformed, and jumped at them again. (Four Sea Feilongs? Who cares? I'm a fucking WEREWOLF! FUCK THE GRIMM!) I still couldn't hold my Werewolf form for longer then fifteen minutes, but with the doggo mans 'order' I could hold it for a half hour. (That'll be enough.)
I smashed my fist against the first one that came close, and seeing this big fucking Grimm ZOOM like it was shot out of a cannon was both the funniest thing in the world and also the most satisfying. (Oh I'm definitely doing that again!) A shot from Ember Cecilia, and avoiding some LIGHTNING?! (THEY DO THAT?! I should've paid more attention in class.) I could do that later.
"Come on ya big ol purses, COME AT ME!" I got two roars and one of them setting up another lightning breath for that. Huh. (Maybe taunting the three lightning breathing dragon Grimm wasn't the best idea.) A second after that thought flew by, one of them tried to bite me! I dodged so my hair was fine, but the fucker had the nerve! So I decided to end his day.
Now I sucked at the whole 'manipulating Werewolf aura' thing, and even in my Werewolf form, I couldn't do alot of the cool shit. BUT! I could make platforms. And that's what I did. It wouldn't HOLD and would disappear after a second or two, but I didn't need it for that long. I stood on it, kept my eye on the one charging up fucking LIGHTNING, and the others. (Closest one gotta go!) Target set, I kicked off of my platform, and rocketed to the closest Feilong. It was a second or two before I made contact that I had a thought. (Oh fuck yeah!)
I landed ON the Feilong, dug my hands into and tightened my legs around its back, and laughed. "GIDDY UP BITCH!"
It didn't like that.
The Feilong started rolling, trying o knock me off, but Werewolf grip was a hell of a thing. Then when it figured out I couldn't be rolled off, it was about to do... Something. But then THE OTHER Feilongs tried to get to me... But they hit the one I was riding... And all hell broke loose. My Feilong, it was mine until it died, roared at the others, and started charging lightning since the original one doing that shot its lightning out. (There's a joke here, but this is too cool.)
~My badass senses are tingling, who is it?~
~MEEE! I'm fucking dragon riding!~ My Feilong smashed its tail into one trying to come behind it, and shot out a breath of lightning before the one coming our way hit us.
~[Huh?]~
~Yang's riding on the back of a Sea Feilong and now there's a three way fight!~ I had to hold on tighter when my Feilong realized it wasn't going to win the breath battle. It flew to the side, and suddenly got hit by Nevermore feathers!
[... What the fuck?]
~Yin, remind me to go to the world of monster hunter later.~ That sounded like a cool world. Anyway, back to the fighting. My Feilong didn't exactly get hurt by the feathers, but they distracted it long enough for it to get its tail bit by the one it smacked.
[... I only know about world.]
~That'll do pig. That'll do.~
[If you don't fucking destroy it, then I'll go there eventually. The Coral Highlands always looked beautiful.] There was a snort in our heads, and I blinked.
~Until a fucking Tzitzi comes out of nowhere and flashbangs you.~
[Talking from experience there old man?]
~Psh. Fuck off. I'll go on a Tzitzi genocide later... Though Astera, Seliana and the other locals WOULD make for a good vacation trip... Hmm... I'll think more on it when I get the monster hunter universe.~
~What's a Tzitzi?~ That was a good question. I even tuned out my Feilong getting hit by more feathers to find out.
~Hmm... Did Remnant have dinosaurs?~ The fuck was a dinosaur?
[Nope.]
~Well then... Think a Blue Teryx. But take away the wings, make it 1/4th smaller, give it weird antenna things that flash you, and you get that fucker.~
~Oh... That sounds cool! YIN what else is there?!~
~Aren't you three in the middle of a Grimm invasion?~ Point. Though it was easy to ignore the fact my Feilong was starting to spiral out of the sky when it got hit by a double dose of lightning.
(I should probably jump.) So I did. I jumped off from my Feilong, dropped my Werewolf form to not run out too early, and rocketed towards the swarm. There were a bunch of flying Grimm, and I DID always want to try riding a Griffin. So with a few shots of Ember Cecilia, I flew towards all the birds and other Grimm, and landed on a Griffin. I wrapped my arms around its neck, and kicked it in the sides.
"Lets GO!" It started bucking like an animal, and I just knew I had a grin on my face. (This is the best!) The Grimm didn't scare me anymore. I didn't worry anymore.
[Well... Yeah... But it's not as bad as I thought it'd be.] I knew that feeling. I was feeling it right now while riding on a Griffin. Making it avoid feathers from a Nevermore, other Griffins trying to swoop in and get me, or whatever else was trying to attack me. The Grimm weren't a threat anymore. And it was fucking freeing.
I wasn't scared of them. I wasn't scared of Adam. I wasn't scared of Saeko, (Might be a little lie.) And it was awesome.
(Why should I be scared of something I could treat like a horse? They're nothing to us. And when we deal with Salem, they'll be nothing to everyone.) Anyway, back to the mental conversation.
~~Really?~~
[I'm spamming Summon Swords and aura slashes.] Now that was bullshit.
~~~Ah.~~~
~Yeah, that makes sense. Vergil's bullshit.~
~Magic is cool.~
~Riding a dragon still beats out magic! Fucking cheating will always be less cool.~
[Keep telling yourself that Yang. I'll keep the way for you to get magic away from you when I figure it out.] Dammit. I DID want magic after all. Magic was too cool NOT to want.
~Fine. I GUESS you're magic is cool too.~
[That's what I thought.] Tch.
(Stupid fucking Gamer powers. The hell couldn't I get something?) I punched my Griffin, which somehow survived during the whole conversation, in the back of the head. It started falling, but I jumped off of its back after that, and started over on a big Nevermore. (I guess this'll do... Huh... Is it just me, or are there less of them now?) It was hard to tell, but I thought there weren't as many now then when we first got here. (Probably Rubes.) I wondered how she was doing.
{Ruby's POV}
(I need to thank Rika later.) I was using my first sniper configuration, and taking out the Griffins or Nevermore that got close to the shore. They were all flying together, so it was kind of hard to hit them since another Nevermore could just pop up in front of the one I wanted to shoot, and there would go my ammo. (I can't even make aura bullets yet, stupid Werewolf powers and their complex training methods.)
Another Nevermore tried to get Yang, but I saw she had it covered. I might've worried about her before, but Yang was my sister. Part of my team. If I couldn't trust her to know what she was doing, then who would?
Other then that, I made sure to do my job. The Nevermore and Griffins that weren't focusing on Yang were going to make it to the shore soon, and there were ALOT of them. (There weren't even this many at Beacon.) It was kinda scary.
Kinda.
Seeing Yang ride on a Sea Feilong and watching it turn into a fight with the other ones like this was some kind of movie or game cutscene was more awesome then scary. Huh. "The Grimm are kinda... Easy? Now... Huh..." I even stopped shooting after I said that. It probably WASN'T the best time to think about this, but I was.
My whole life, I wanted to be a huntsmen. To be someone that saved others from the Grimm. To be a hero. (But then what?) I started shooting again, and just thought. (Without Salem, the Grimm go back to being Grimm. Those Grimm pool things are something Yin said she'll handle... So what do I do after we save Remnant?) I didn't know.
It was the weirdest thing. I didn't think about it before since I was too caught up in learning my new powers, trying to activate my eyes, having fun in the dungeons Yin brought us too, to really think about it. But now that I was fighting a swarm of Grimm, I started thinking about it for some reason... Then I had an idea.
~Yin. What are we going to do after we save Remnant?~ I heard Mr. Maccillian hum... An approving? Hum. Not sure about that, but that's what I thought it sounded like.
[Depends. What do you want to do?] Which was a good question. After all of this was over. After we saved Remnant.
(What did I want to do?) I didn't know. Saving Remnant would be my dream come true. It'd be what mom would've wanted, and we'd have saved everyone. But again, what would I do?
~Why not go on vacation? No offense to either of you kids, but Remnants a shithole.~
~~HEY!~~
~I'm right and Yin knows it.~
[... I mean... Yeah. You gotta admit it, a post-apocalyptic world isn't exactly the best.] She had a point. But we still had places like the Everfall forest! That place was pretty! [But that DOES sound nice. Fighting Grimm for years kind of takes the beauty out of Remnant. But where would we even go to vacation?]
~How many worlds can you g...- Actually, hows yours work anyway? Is it random, or do you get to choose?~
[System said after I finish the main questline, I'd get a choice between five worlds close to my strength level. Ten worlds on par with me. Four worlds stronger then me. Then one world WAY stronger then me.]
~Well that's bullshit. I got like, ten worlds to choose from.~
[Sucks to be you.]
~I'll throw you into the ground kid.~
[ , I won't know WHERE I can go until after Salem and the Grimm pools are gone.]
~Oh well. Sucks to be you.~
[You mo...-]
~You know. I'm feeling some real sexual tension here. Anything you want to get off your chest Yin?~ I almost tripped! Why did she have to say that! It was in my mind now!
(AAAAAAAAAAHHH!) I heard Mr. Maccillian snort and start laughing, and Yin just sounded like she stubbed her toe.
[NOPENOPENOPE! BACK TO THE ARMY OF DEMONS WE GO!]
~Usually, I'd yell at you for screaming in my mind, but this is too good so you get a pass.~ I agreed, and started blasting again. But there were a bunch of Grimm at the shore now. I'd need to go melee for them.
So I did.
When a Griffin started swooping in, I made Crescent Rose change back to scythe mode, sidestepped the attack, and cleaved it in half. I was WAY faster now, so I could use Crescent Rose better. And do cool new things with her!
Like coating her with my aura, spinning her round and round, then swinging three aura swipes to the closest Grimm. Rika and Saya taught me how to do that, and it was just as cool as the first time I did it. But I didn't have time to focus on that. After I killed those three, ten or more Griffins and Nevermore started coming in. A few of the Nevermore stayed back, to get ready for a feather strike, while the rest of them and the Griffins came after me. "
NOT TODAY!" I activated my Semblance, avoided them and re-positioned a bit further back, then put myself together to plant Crescent Rose back into the ground. I didn't ACTUALLY need too since I could just force myself to take the recoil, but it was a habit I didn't break yet. Firing at them, I dealt with the Nevermore trying to spear me with feathers, and got back into melee mode. The Grimm were easy to deal with now with my faster reflexes, stronger swings, and just all the Werewolf goodness.
I didn't even need to use my new form yet. Despite how cool it was, I needed to save it for emergencies. And we wer...- "What is THAT?!" I stopped and just looked out into the sea... Because there was something BIG coming out of it.
~Uhh... Yang?~
~Yeah?~
~Why is there a super big Sea Feilong coming out of the water?~
[Oh. So it's not just my side.]
~Demi-Titans?~
[Ah. That'd do it.]
~... I'm gonna punch it in the face.~ I could hear Yin choke, Mr. Maccillian laugh, and saw Yang jump off of the Nevermore she was currently on. From where I was, I saw her go back into her Werewolf form, and heard her shout.
"GERONIMO!" I absentmindedly cut another Griffin in half, and just stared at my sister dropping towards a 'Demi-Titan' Feilong. This was a movie scene, and I just HAD to watch.
~PSST! What's happening Reddy Rosy? I NEED COMMENTARY.~
~I"M BEING A BAD BITCH! THAT'S WHATS GOING ON!~ Then Yang and the Feilong made contact. The sound was like someone detonated a cargo ship of dust. There was even a shockwave and everything!
(I think that was the loudest BOOM I've ever heard in my life.) The Demi-Titan didn't die, but it did look like that hit HURT. Yang was airborne again, using Ember Cecilia and aura platforms to move around, and eventually get back onto a Grimm.
~I'M DOING IT AGAIN!~
(I need to record this!) So with one hand, I wielded Crescent Rose, and cut apart any Grimm that got too close. Then I started getting my scroll with the other, and focused in on Yang after I had it open and recording.
[Oh for the love of gods!]
~Eh, let her have her fun. I'm pretty sure I heard that explosion, and I'm what... An hour or so away? No clue. But anyway, let her do the cool shit you magic spamming bitch.~
[Fuck you too.]
~Ugh. Just get a room you two.~
[UGHHH!]
~Bwahaha! Remind me to buy you something good for that Yang.~
~YESSIR! NOW I'VE GOT A DRAGON TO PUNCH!~ Then she did it again. She jumped off her Nevermore, one fist cocked back with aura surging around it, the other behind her, firing off rounds to increase her velocity, and I could just see her grin.
"GERONIMOOO!" The Feilong roared, its full body erupted from the water, and it charged towards Yang. I was getting this all on camera, and it was cool... But also crazy.
~Guys... When did life get so crazy?~
~[When you came with us to Beacon.]~
~HEY!~ They all laughed, and I huffed. They would NEVER let me get over it. It was even worse now that we knew that was our 'pilot' episode. The minor existential crisis Weiss went through after finding that out was funny though.
Back to the fight. Yang collided with the Feilong, and this boom was even BIGGER. It was thunder, but COOLER! I almost couldn't hear after it, well other then the ringing in my ears, but that was what party chat was for!
~YANG! THAT WAS AWESOME!~
~DAMN RIGHT IT WAS!~
[It's kind of crazy how I heard it like I was right there. Considering the fact I'm on THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ISLAND!]
~I've done better.~
~[No one asked!]~ Mr. Maccillian snorted, but I couldn't stop the laugh I did.
~By the way, I got that on camera!~
~REALLY?! SEND THAT TO ME AFTER! OK RUBES?!~
~Me too.~
[I guess I'll ask for it too. Actually, just send it to the group chat.]
~KAY!~ I put my scroll away after doing that, and went back to fighting the Grimm. I didn't even notice I was avoiding or fighting a hundred or something Nevermore and Griffins."Huh... When did that happen?" Werewolf instincts seemed to be really good at blocking out boring battles. Oh well. '
[Omake - Running is all I know. Maccillian's POV during the fights.]
(I'm fucking bored out of my mind. Why did I think running across the fucking sea would be a good idea? I don't even know how long I've been going for... Should I say fuck it and go faster? I can...) Thinking that, I was tempted to shift, go Werewolf form, and go TOTW. (I'm mentioning it this way now unless he uses the actual skill instead of mentions it.)
(Though the drain on holding that instead of throwing it at things would tire me out. It wouldn't be fucking crazy if I was at full power though. Ugh. Annoying restriction.) I groaned at that, and just kept running. Don't get me wrong, the sea is nice. Its got that nice ocean smell, a great breeze that feels nice on the fur, and a bunch of other stuff... But it was just so BORING.
The girls were busy fighting a Titan, Yin's group against Demi-Titans, and here I was running across the ocean. (God this sucks. I should've tossed the goddamn Titan on its ass and started wailing on it. I could take Shizuka's 'punishment' for it.)
But it was too late now. So all I could do was keep running... And running... Ugh. Putting on the aura armor, raising my speed even higher, I decided to say screw it. (I'm gonna be pissed if I get there, and there's absolutely NOTHING for me to do.) A part of my mind told me I just tempted fate, but I was too bored to care.
