Chapter 2: Awaken

When I became conscious again it was dark, I couldn't see anything. Then I remembered what had happened and tears started to form again. That's when I felt a breeze from behind me, I was in a tunnel. My stomach groaned loudly.

**I don't have any food, what should I do?**

I got up and used my hands to guide me along the walls of the cave.

**He can't be dead, dad is stronger than that**

I kept going until I started to see light down the tunnel.

**Why is there light down here? I-I'm not... am I... dead?**

I walked towards the light, slightly shivering as I don't have a clue what the afterlife is like or what to expect.

"Oh heavenly fiend, we beseech thee. Oh heavenly fiend, we, your humble servants request a sign of your will, a sign to show proof that we are the chosen ones. We ask this so we may smite the nonbelievers among us!" A group of around 30 people chanted in unison.

As I rounded the corner I heard their chant, after they finished I peaked around the corner. What I saw amazed me, there was about 30 people dressed in cloaks, bowing down towards the far side of the cave towards some kind of alter. It looked like a cliché rock alter that you'd usually see in action movies to sacrifice something. The room of the cave itself was a square in shape with what looked like 2 entrances, the one I was at looked like a ventilation tunnel or something. One entrance was next to the alter on the opposite side from me, and the other was on the left side of the room. All of the people were currently kneeling in rows, in the middle of the room.

**O-oh my... w-what the heck did I stumble upon? Some kind of cult?! In a cave in our woods?!** I thought to myself as I watched on.

One of the leaders of the chants slowly got up to the front of the cave.

"Tonight we will receive the blessing! For tonight we have a, VERY, special sacrifice." The leader boomed.

**W-Wait a sacrifice?! Is this for real, this can't be.** As I thought that,

"Bring forth the sacrifice!" The lead cultist ordered coldly.

After he said that four taller men came from around the corner of the far side of the cave. They were carrying some kind of large dog, but it was tied and hanging upside down from a long stick that the four of them carried on their shoulders.

"Tonight... We shall become one with our god! Tonight, we sacrifice one of our enemies strongest!" As the leader said another hooded one came from the back and whispered something in his ear.

"Hmm, very well, we will have to speed up the schedule." The leader replied to the informant.

The men carrying the dog put the stick on some kind of stand and then joined the rest in the crowd. Meanwhile the leader pulled out some sort of dagger, and started chanting in some other language. When he was done he raised his arm with the dagger, and slashed downward with intensity. The dog opened it's eyes and managed to catch the dagger, I couldn't believe what I just saw. It then started to emit lightning from it's eyes and then broke the dagger in two using its jaws.

"You bastard! How DARE YOU, just die already you worthless mutt!" The leader was furious, he ended up getting so mad that he kicked the dog. This caused the whole stand to fall over and the dog took advantage of it. Using the lightning from before it cut the rope binding it, although I suppose burnt through would be a better term for it.

The dog just started growling while emitting the lightning from it's eyes, snarling with its hair stood up, ready to pounce on any who dared come near. Some of the cultists got up and started running away, others tried looking for weapons, a few even tried to get close enough to try to wrestle it. Those who dared just got electrocuted by the lightning, and that's when it moved. In a blink of an eye it was gone, I heard a really loud BOOM and then I only managed to see where it ended up from there. It was so quick, and I looked back to my own disgust. What was left was a bunch of fried remains, electrocuted to death, I didn't even hear the screams. I couldn't take the scene anymore as the scent of the freshly dead made its way to my nose. I looked away and threw up a couple of times.

**What the devil is that thing?! How did it do that? Ugh, those bodies smell horrible.** I thought to myself as I went to throw up again.

I eventually had nothing left in my stomach to throw up, not that my body didn't try. I noticed that it became quiet.

**I should try to get out of here while they are distracted with that thing** I started to crawl out of the tunnel into the hall, trying hard not to look at the bodies. That's when I noticed it, that lightning dog was lying on the ground in the corner, panting heavily. It looked wounded, I can hear it groaning and whining.

**Ehhhh?!?! That monster is still here?! Okay ignore it, just ignore it. Move on your way, you don't have time to deal with that thing Robert, it'll probably kill you.** I started to move away towards the exit. I heard a growl behind me.

**Oh no, please don't electrocute me.** I thought as I slowly turned around.

I turned around slowly, only to have my fears confirmed. Staring back at me was this dog, almost as tall as I am, jet black scruffy and matted in some parts fur and yellow eyes to match the lightning from earlier. I could feel the blood drain from my face in an instant. Right as I was about to try and run, it pounced. Moving slower than before, but still easily faster than me it caught me and bit down on the back of my neck. I could feel its fangs seeping into my neck,

**I'm sorry dad, this is it. This is the end of the Wolf family.** That was my last thought as I lay face down on the cold stone floor, slowly bleeding out. I felt the warm liquid of my blood gushing from my neck as my body slowly got colder and colder. I started to feel tired, slowly the embrace of death was coming for me. I closed my eyes and embraced the darkness to follow as my body yearned for the sweet rest that the embrace brought to me.
