Chapter 1: The Spark

Since ancient times, there has always been heroes. One particular family has always operated in the shadows of time, performing unnatural feats beyond understanding. This family is the Wolf family. Their lineage dates back to times unknown, but whenever there is trouble a Wolf shall always show up when needed.

Our story starts on a late summer evening, a light breeze blows through the trees. The Wolf estate, a mansion large enough to suit 15-20 people easily, several acres of land, dotted with trees on an otherwise forested area. A single paved driveway, about 100 yards long, leads from the road around a fountain in the courtyard and a detached garage on the left of the fountain. A rather peaceful day.

"Father! Please let me come along too!" Exclaims a young boy about the age of 12. He has brown hair, combed back neatly. Wearing a black three piece suit, his blue eyes shine brightly. The young master Robert Wolf.

"Son, how many times have I told you? You simply are too young to go out on business trips with me! I promise though, I will bring you back a souvenir, alright?" The older man proclaims. This is the current master of the Wolf House, Jethro Wolf. Jethro is wearing his usual black suit that matches his black hair and silver eyes.

"But Father, I am ready! I've been practicing everything you taught me," Robert replies.

"Hahaha, that is good my boy, but still. This is a dangerous job, I wouldn't be able to look after you at all I'm afraid." Jethro calls back as he enters the black sedan sitting in front of the fountain.

The car starts driving off towards the town of Goldenrod. The town itself is lively as always, people are out in the street, moving from shop to shop, chatting, laughing. Jethro looks out the window and sighs,

**I hope that this goes well, I really hate leaving Robert alone for this long. Especially since his mothers death.**

The car takes a left turn and starts heading towards the port.

It is now nighttime, a week later in an unknown city and country. Jethro is pushed backwards onto the ground, his lip bleeding and several bruises on him.

"You! How dare you double cross me!" Jethro exclaims in fury.

A man wearing a maroon suit with a walking cane and a black bowler hat slowly walks forward, laughing to himself,

"Hehehehe, HAHAHA, What's wrong little puppy?! Is someone not having a fun time getting their ass beat?" The man exclaims

"What the hell are you talking about? The fun has just begun!" Jethro retorts as he throws his coat at the man to blind him.

Jethro began lashing out with his favorite boxing combo of two jabs, a right cross, followed by a left hook into a right handed uppercut. The man is surprised by his willpower and takes the jabs and the cross directly, but manages to block the hook and uppercut.

"Really now, is that anyway to treat a friend now Jethro my boy?"

"YOU are NO friend of MINE." Jethro replies with rage dancing in his eyes.

"HAHAHA, Yes Jethro. Now show me that this old dog still has some bite instead of that annoying bark! HAHAH," The man smugly returns, his excitement starting to overflow from tonight's events.

"You have bitten off more than you can chew then coward!"

Jethro charges at the man and lays a right cross across his face, using the momentum to follow with a swift roundhouse kick. The man again takes the cross, but blocks the kick with his arms. He counters with a swift strike from his cane towards Jethro's knee.

Jethro manages to dodge but barely. He jumps back, panting.

**I didn't think that he would be this strong after he got his hands on the stone. I may have to do things a little differently today**

Jethro once again goes into his boxing stance and rushes the man cloaked in red.

Bam, Bam, Bam! WHOOSH, Slit, Click.

Jethro falls to his knees, not knowing what just happened. His eyes wide in disbelief.

**NO! How? What just happened? I can't die like this, I-I can't.**

He looks down and starts holding his abdomen. A new cut appears before him, as he starts coughing up blood.

"What?" Cough, cough.

"You didn't really think I'd play fair now did you? Especially after I got my hands on this stone?" the man replied.

Jethro can only look on at the man, his vision starting to get blurry.

"If I have to, I'll take take you to hell myself, just..." Cough "You wait you bloody bastard."

"Now, now, Jethro, is that anyway to talk to your dearest friend?"

"Fuck youuu..." Jethro trails off as the last of his breath starts to leave his body.

**I'm sorry son, Daddy isn't coming home this time**

He smiles at the memory of his son, as the light fades from his eyes.

[1st Person POV]

"I wonder where Father is? He was supposed to be home a week ago" Young Robert asks aloud

The maids in the room look concerned, but say nothing and look at each other solemnly, fearing the worst. They know that in the Wolf's line of work, death is always near. Now what is this line of work? Easy, it's the defense of the world from evil of course. Although it's easy on paper alone.

"Young Master, please come with me. There are some things that we must discuss now." A tall man, about 6'3, wearing a black butler's suit, his black hair tied back into a ponytail asks with a slight bow.

"Hmm? What is it Gerrard?" I ask, a little worried.

"Come along we must go on a little trip." Gerrard explains

"But to where?" I ask again, my curiosity growing.

"Master Jethro said to bring you to this place if anything goes wrong on one of his missions" He finally explains as we walk out of the mansion towards the back forest.

We started making our way through the forest on a small path, overgrown with shrubs and other plants. I was always told to never go down this path, there must be something special this way.

"Young Master, please do follow closely, I don't want you to get lost now." Gerrard chides

"Okay, but why are we going this way? What is out here that is so important Gerrard?"

"It will be easier to show you, Young Master."

About half an hour of walking later we came across a cave in a small hill.

"Here we are sir." Gerrard said with a slight bow and smile

"Gerrard, where is here, exactly? I replied, raising an eyebrow, still confused.

"This was a cave that your ancestors used for training, as well as a trial by fire. Your father went through it when he was 15. Due to certain circumstances, you will be going through it now." Gerrard frowned when he mentioned Jethro.

"Gerrard, wait, did something happen to Father?!" I asked eagerly

With no reply, I finally connected the dots. My father was no longer alive...

"No... NONONO!!" I screamed, tears starting to form in my eyes.

"Young Master... I'm sorry, but your father... Master Jethro lost his life during his last mission, it was confirmed yesterday..." The butler softly explained.

"NO you have to be lying! My father is the strongest man alive!! No one can kill him!" I sobbed.

"He was a fine man Young Master. You will have to be strong, now go quickly and stay strong! I cannot help you with what is to follow, but you must hurry." He pushed me inside as he said this.

The ceiling fell in shortly after he pushed me inside.

"What? WAIT! Gerrard, w-what d-do you m-mean?!" I tried calling to him through the rubble through my tears.

I started trying to dig through the rubble to get out, but no matter how much I dug there was no end. Eventually I broke down, and just sat there on my knees, hunched over. I cried and cried until the darkness of sleep finally took me.
