CHAPTER 9 : THE NEW DISTURBANCE

" The new scent hider. Updated version . " The man spoke as he pointed at a bottle , filled with a liquid. I stood there along with some others watching the new weapons and updated products .

Today was a Sunday and I needed to work only half - day . My shift would be over at sharp twelve and the time currently is eleven .

" What about this ? " I asked seeing a black box which resembled a pen case . It was beautifully wrapped up .

" Aha ." The man said as he took the box . " The new silver knife . Sharper , more lethal. There are some other things added as well , the names are given on the board above ." He spoke about the black board that was hung above .

" One stab is all you need to recieve a dead werewolf . " The man continued as he opened the box , a silver knife sat inside , the symbol of a moon etched onto it .

" That is one elegant knife . " I spoke , recieving a lot of agreement from the rest.

" It is .This beauty here is a must have . "

" Well that's it folks . The rest is kept in the next room . All of you can get your new tools from there . Some new chemicals have arrived as well . "

Anika walked through the busy streets , even though she was worried of the fact that she has a killer after her , she wanted to take a walk . No one can tell , maybe it would be the last time she will be able to walk through these streets .

Seeing an empty bench , she sat . She had called Ava a while ago telling her about what she was up to and had recived a good amout of scoldings from her . Ava's shift would start within two hours and her's had just finished .

Anika took off the bag that was hanging on her shoulder. Opening the bag , she searched for the magazine that she had kept inside . Finding the magazine , she took it out and went for the first page . She knew that she would have to read it the moment she saw the pictures of the latest boot collection . She had to take a break from all the work , and a magazine would help her very well .

Looking at the printed images her eyes shone in happiness . Something about footwear made her really happy .

Tayden stared at the girl who sat a bit far away , completely oblivious about the stare she was recieving.

Taking advantage of the fact that she was alone , he walked upto her and introduced himself .

" My name's Tayden . "

He looked at the girl as she stared at him nonchalant . Taking a seat near her , he noticed how her expression changed

" Do I know you ? " She asked frowning .

" Not yet , but I know all about you . Anika Hansley , daughter of Rick Hansley and Saanvi . "

As soon as the words left his mouth , she straightened , her eyes trained on him like an eagle looking at its prey .

" Who are you ? " She asked him , now keeping the magazine closed , her voice as cold as ice , quite an opposite of her stare .

" I am a fan of yours. We studied in the same school . "

" Proof ? " She asked raising an eyebrow as her jaw clenched .

Immediately taking out his phone , he searched through the numerous images .

" Here . " He said as he showed an image of a group of students . Among most of them he couldn't remember , and he was sure she didn't either .

" Is that me ? " Her raised eyebrow now lowered as she took a closer look at the photo . " God , I look awful . " She stated .

" Not more than me ." He spoke as he pointed at one of the boys in the image . A picture of him he despised. A smile left Anika's mouth as she looked at the boy who she hadn't noticed a few seconds ago .

" I am sorry but I still can't remember who you are . " She spoke confusion etched on to her face .

" It's okay . Wanna go on a date ." He asked suddenly , surprising the lady beside him .

" Excuse me ? " She asked . She had absolutely no time for dates and even if she had , she wouldn't do it when her life's on the line . Seeing your date dead the next day might not be the best news .

" A date ." He repeated .

" I am sorry . No ." She replied , hoping he wouldn't feel bad .

Well that was a surprise for him . He could ask literally anyone present here and no one would reject him , no matter how busy they were . He had the looks and the money . What more could another ask ? He thought .

" Don't try hard , just say yes. I will pay for the food. " He spoke trying to get her to omit a yes .

" I am sorry , this is not about who is paying . I am just not interested . " She said as she stood up , anger building up.

She may look broke , but she has more than enough money to pay for her meals . Not wanting to create a scene she held back her tongue . Keeping the magazine inside she walked away , leaving the man alone on the bench .

Soon her walk was interrupted again .

" Perhaps coffee. " He spoke desperately trying to get her for a date .

" Perhaps not. " She spoke as she walked away , almost hitting his shoulders . Turning around he just stood .

" Is that a rejection ?" He asked dumbfounded . No one is supposed to reject him , rejecting is his job .

" Why the doubt? " She replied looking at him irritated . She had a case to work on and places to be .

" Anything you want to say ?" She asked looking at the man infront of her. He seemed to be in deep thought about something . Snapping her fingers in front of his face , she asked again . " Is there anything you want to say. I don't have time to waste ".

"I have nothing to say , but lots to show." He tried again , a smile on his face . Maybe looking welcoming might help .

"If you have that many things to show , I suggest you show that to another. Goodbye . " She spoke and walked away as he stood there .

He looked at the woman as she walked away , her bag in her right hand as her left hand clenched .

Rejection was new to him and he would make sure that no one would do it again . He was going to get her , one way or another .

Reaching home , she stared at the female who stood in front of the gate , her arms folded and her left foot tapping onto the floor .

" Do you know how scared I was ? " Ava started the moment she saw her best friend walking towards her .

" I was searching everywhere for you . "

" What do you think I would do If you end up dead somewhere ? Party ? " She asked , fuming with anger .

" I told you I would take a walk back home . Don't you have to go for work ? " Anika asked tiredly as she walked past her bestfriend into their house .

" This is not the time to take a stroll. Why can't you understand the seriousness of this ? " Ava replied ignoring the last question .

" I do . I just wanted to take a walk , besides he wouldn't do anything to me in public . " She said as she took a seat .

" Stop talking as if you know him because you clearly don't , both of us don't . You were bawling your eyes out the other day you saw that woman dead . That is going to be me unless you stop being reckless . "

Anika had nothing to say . She knew she was at wrong . She knew she was risking her life .

" If you die . I will die . Remember that the next time you think of doing something similar ." Ava spoke teary eyed . She didn't wait for another second as she walked off to her room , with Anika following her .

" Ava . " She called out .

Reaching inside , she looked at the girl who laid on the bed facing the opposite direction . Her dark hair covering her face .

Climbing onto the bed Anika hugged her bestfriend , who immediately tried to move away the hand that hugged her .

" Don't touch me . " She spoke squirming in Anika's hands .

" I am sorry . I won't do it again ." Anika spoke trying to make it up to her best friend . She knew her words were lame , but she had to try .

Anika knew she was at wrong . She should have thought more . Kissing Ava on the cheek , she pleaded again . " Please . I will do anything you say . "

" Anything ? " Ava asked as she turned around wiping her tears.

" Anything . "

" Don't forget the corners . " Ava spoke as she looked at the girl who was sweeping .

Anika looked at Ava as she sweeped the floors clean . Ava had called the headquarters and told them that she would be a bit late to arrive . The house was more guarded now , more securities were appointed for the officers including me , Ava and our neighbours . Most of our neighbours were officers too .

" Wash the clothes and the dishes , too . I am leaving now . Have fun. Bye . " Ava spoke as she walked to the door .

Anika closed the door after she bid her friend good bye . Well , she definitely has a lot of work for today .
