Chapter 94

The man whom Sean called as Spo' looked up in surprise and asked "Dude, you alive. How the fuck did you get here?".

With a smile Sean chided at him asking him not to jinx it and said that he escaped creating a diversion.

"Idiot, you should have escaped and called for backup to destroy this camp. Why did you come here?".

Despite shouting at him Sean knew that the man was happy that he had come back for his mates and just didn't like to express such feelings.

Having guarded each other's back as mates for a few months and being in actual combat many times had developed a huge bond between them.

Amongst this group the only one with whom they didn't have a bond was their lieutenant and considering how it was this lieutenant's fault that they ended up in this situation, let's just say that his condition wouldn't exactly improve after they find him.

Considering how they did not have the luxury to check every cell and after that big gun shot which echoed from within this tunnel it was just a matter of time before the militants rushed into the tunnel.

"Hey Spo' guard this tunnel, make sure to hide behind these jagged walls and here, take this" said Sean as he threw the Ak that he had placed over his shoulder before asking Spo' to call for him if he heard the militants rushing in.

With a nod Spo' took his spot behind a jagged wall with protruding rocks covering the top and a crate at the bottom, a perfect spot for an ambush, especially for a trained professional like Spo'.

Rushing down Sean checked the cells one by one and every time he spotted his mates he breached through the door and quickly got them to their feet after removing their cuffs using wires he had previously prepared to pick the cuff lock.

Just as he was about to move out of the cell where his third mate was kept to move on in search of his final mate and his lieutenant he heard shouts and heavy footsteps followed by gunshots being fired very close by.

Knowing that the bodies he had previously stuffed near a corner had been found leading the group of militants to the tunnel, Sean had a calm smile to his face as he suddenly opened the steel door outward and using it as a cover Sean quickly peaked through the gap on the top part of the door to see the number of assailants.

A total of 6 had entered the tunnel and currently there were only 5 alive and had been shooting at his mates who had set up the ambush. His sudden entrance shocked the 5 militants and using this brief moment of lapse in their concentration his mates shot through two more militants leaving their status unknown.

Looking at their comrades falling one after another the militants immediately had the thought of retreating and calling for backup and seeing how they were slowly retreating out of the tunnel and firing at the door and also at his mates at constant pace making his mates be pinned down, Sean took a deep breath and judged the position of the militants through the gap and stuck his left hand out and emptied the magazine of his handgun dropping one more in the process and injuring the shoulder of one other.

"Fuck!!" screamed the militant, albeit in Urdu. Unlike the interrogator and few others in the camp, this bunch spoke Urdu which was more like a common language to them.

Not planning on letting these two Scott free, Sean unleashed his wrath by having his rifle pointed by the side of the steel door and shot through them at the expense of another magazine. As he shot using his left hand and shoulder which was his non-dominant hand his accuracy which he was so proud of dropped drastically but it still got the job done.

Knowing that these shots should have set off the alarms to the forces hidden underground, Sean ran towards the next cells while having his mates guard his back.

It didn't take long for Sean to release all his mates including his lieutenant who had a suspicious broken nose with blood freshly oozing out that he used his shirt to hold and wipe with a distressed look on his face.

Well, a few minutes ago, when Sean went inside to save this lieutenant, he didn't forget to punch his face for screwing things up to this level.

With these 5 mates Sean planned on escaping the camp as swiftly as possible, though not through the main route as it would be filled with militants and so was the route above ground.

Just then the group heard sounds of men rushing in. With the rifles taken from the dead militants' hands his group were armed with Aks' along with a few rounds of magazines.

Knowing that it would be a long and hard battle, the 5 battle hardened marines had their eyes lit up with fighting spirit as they readily raised their muzzle and started communicating through hand signs within the rather dim lit tunnel barring lieutenant who was visibly nervous from the rather tense situation but was wise enough to follow the group and not be a drag.

The group slowly advanced out of the tunnel and while moving out of the hiding spot made sure to cover all angles and properly clear all blindspots segment by segment. With their trained gait these 5 barely made any sound barring the lieutenant who tried to walk as softly as possible as they pressed forwards hoping that the number of militants who were in the underground pathway were considerably lesser than the ones at the top.

With their path being jagged with many protruding rocks creating a natural blindspot as well as an uneven ground made the group's progress slow and in a place where there were severe time constraints it proved to be a disaster for the group.

Despite the looming threat of militants and the possibility of a tough battle ahead of them the group did not flinch nor did they try to rush their progress. In such a situation it was better to calmly clear every segment while looking out for possible ambushes being set up rather than to rush head on and get wounded or possibly even killed.

Within a span of 10 meters just before their next turn the group faced the first wave of militants. Just like Sean's group, a group of 6 militants were heading towards them, however unlike Sean's group where everyone moved quietly, this group of militants were moving at a faster pace and the sound of the slippers echoed down the tunnel.

As idiotic as this would seem, not many amongst the Taliban were trained by professionals and along with their home advantage, this group were extremely rash in their approach and of course this proved to be fatal.

As soon as the sound of footsteps were heard Sean and group quickly headed down the tunnel straight for the militants instead of retreating to some corner for an ambush and before the militants could react they saw a bunch of men wearing their own outfits rush come out of the turn and rush towards them.

Before these militants could understand what had happened a stream of bullets flew towards them making them drop down like flies. From the start till the end it took a total of 5 seconds of intense gunfire followed by absolute silence.

Sean's group walked towards the dead militants and picked their supplies in an orderly fashion and moved further down with the intent to reap as many lives as they could before they meet the core unit of militants.
