CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR
.
Damien's hair stood on ends as Adrianna blew warm air into his ear. Followed by a loud boom in his heart like thunderclaps.
How daring can his mate be? Damien looked blankly at the fearless Adrianna.
Her face is full of youthful vitality but she exudes a calmness of an experienced adult woman.
There is more to his mate than meets the eye. Damien's eyes sparkled with anticipation and eagerness.
He has a feeling his mate will bring him endless surprises.
"Let's compromise. I will take care of you and do it your way. But, we need to tell your parents about us."
Adrianna never thought Damien could think about her parents at this time. Don't men avoid such meetings?
"Do you tell them I am who I am?"
Adrianna's face is as peaceful as a lagoon.
Damien's eyes lit with interest.
"Your taking all this in stride."
Damien looked at Adrianna like a toy he wants to take apart for inspection.
Her maturity is really unlike her age. What can a young girl like her possibly experience that could force her to an early maturity?
"I have come to connect some hints leading me to the supposition that I'm different from others and that I'm not my parents daughter by blood. Since then, I have long prepared myself for what my oddness entails and I have long accepted the truth about my birth. But whatever it is, they will always be my parents at heart. They couldn't be more of a parent to me."
Damien smiled as he kissed Adrianna's brow.
"Don't worry, we will give your parents the respect and love they deserve. Let's start by telling them the truth. But not the whole truth. I'm afraid information might be compelled out from them."
"With the circumstances of your birth, I'm afraid vampires might be searching for you. The first time I melded with you, I saw a castle and lots of blood. Something must have happened. If not, why would your biological parents choose to hide you?"
"Was there a skirmish?" Adrianna mused.
"I'm not sure. I only stayed in your body for a minute or two before you lost consciousness."
Adrianna eyes widen. Its the first time Damien mentioned about seeing blood and a castle.
Damien combed his fingers in Adrianna's hair.
"Don't think too much. Your parents might have the answers you need."
Adrianna nodded absentmindedly.
"My identity is sensitive and it will only bring trouble to them. Let's keep it a secret first."
"What identity?"
Damien was startled for a moment. They treat each other as if they have been together for a long time. He actually forgot they just met today.
She doesn't know him at all.
Then a sudden realization came over him.
The way she ran to him at the rooftop, her expression was one where she was glad to see him again. Even if they met in her dream, her familiarity with him doesn't make sense.
Is it because of the stirrings of their mate bond? Damien find it odd.
"Damien?"
Adrianna was waiting for Damien's answer. But his face is expressionless with porcelain cold eyes.
As if waken from a long dream, Damien was disoriented for a second. Then he collected himself.
"Yes?"
"Are you a big shot?"
Damien's lips twitched. Trying to suppress his humor.
"No. They treat me as how an old man should be treated."
Adrianna's mouth formed an ~oh~.
"A senior. O-kay." She imagined an elderly, with fine lines and wrinkles on his face, being treated with dignity and respect as what an elderly deserves. Then she looked at Damien.
What a handsome grandpa.
Wouldn't that mean, as his extension, she will be treated accordingly? So she would become a grandma.
Now its Adrianna's lips that are twitching.
"When do we...." Adrianna trailed off as Damien pressed his index finger against her lips.
"Someone's coming. I need to face this person. I don't want them to know about you. Yet. Not until you mature."
Adrianna's eyes widen. Then she nodded.
Damien gave her a quick peck on the lips and stood. Bringing Adrianna along with him ---who was clinging to him like a koala.
Adrianna watched as Damien first fixed her tee then held her hand and walked over to the fireplace.
Adrianna was like a spectator as she observed in amazement how Damien's eyes glowed like fire gems as he put his hand inside the hearth. He was muttering something underneath his breath when there was a sudden wooosh! Then she heard a click. Like a door opening.
Beside the fireplace, she saw a part of the paneled wall slightly ajar. She glanced at Damien.
When Damien pushed the secret door open, Adrianna saw it was yet another room. A dark room with just a 2 meter wide bookcase that seemed to be made of solid oak wood, a winged chair and a long chaise lounge. All of them in burgundy colors.
"Stay here first." Damien kissed her brows and left.
Adrianna sat on the chaise feeling like Cleopatra.
But before she could integrate Cleopatra's character, her head snapped towards the secret door.
A brewing storm clouded her eyes as red began to creep in.
The voice.
She has found one of her murderers!
