DEATH

CHAPTER TWO

Adrianna clutched tightly at the blankets as tears were streaming down her face. Her hair is drenched in sweat, her heart is pounding non stop.

She dreamt of Damien. Damien is calling out to her. He is in pain. He is asking her to find him.

It was clearly a dream but she can feel Damien's breath. She can feel his close proximity to her. She can feel Damien is just near!

But how does she know that?! Is she delirious?!

When she was at the airport, she was impatient and cranky. She doesn't know why.

And now she has this urge, a compelling need to make a move.

This series of events is making her nuts!

She pulled the blankets to the sides then went to the kitchenette.

While holding the glass of water, she was getting agitated, impatient and restless.

But she is like a headless fly! She doesn't understand these urges at all!

She feels the impending danger but she doesn't know what it is nor how to deal with it. How can she, when things aren't making sense to her at all!

Gritting her teeth in frustration, she closed her eyes and set aside her messy emotions. For now.

Taking a deep breath, she walked to the balcony and was greeted with the cold breeze and the smell of Earth.

Even through the darkness, Adrianna can still clearly see the breathtaking view of the picturesque mountain village before her.

She love the quiet.

Then out of the blue, she thought of her parents.

She bit her lips as she held onto the railings and raised her head at the endless skies above.

Her dead parents. The only family she has but lost.

How she wish there were visiting hours in heaven.

She would like to visit her parents and kneel down in front of them. Beg them for forgiveness.

When her parents took their last breath, she wasn't even at their side.

Maybe even in their last moments, they still might have been worried about her?

Her parents always thought the world of her. They thought she is peerless, unequaled. That she is matchless, unable to be equaled.

For them, she is simply the best.

But she failed them.

It all started a month before her eighteenth birthday.

Her mother, Liena, gave her a beautiful music box. A music box that she can barely put down. Wherever she goes, she has this irrational desire to always bring it with her. And like a lunatic, she has to play the music every single night. Or she won't be at peace with herself.

Until it was lost.

Or so she thought.

She found out, her very own mother was the one who secretly gave it away!

After she lost her music box, she was like in a limbo. Floating like a kite cut from its string with nothing to tether her.

She just....snapped!

That's when she ran away from home.

TIP - TAP

TIP - TAP

Adrianna flinched as her eyes widen with fright. Someone is sneaking into her room!

With the light footfalls and slow careful steps, its apparent the intruders tried to avoid alerting her.

But she already heard them. Loud and clear.

With her heart on her throat, Adrianna plans to sidle furtively at the side and crouch herself down to avoid detection.

But when she was about to quietly move, she was stunned! Then a broken, painful cry escaped from her lips.

She felt a sudden pain on her neck, then her ears were ringing and her vision became blurry.

CLANG! CLANG!

CLANG! CLANG!

A long, loud, ringing noise echoed within the room as a metal object hit the floor.

Everything happened in a blink. They moved lightning fast!

The pain registered first before she realized they walloped the back of her head with a cold and hard object!

With great strength and strenuous effort, she gritted her teeth in pain as she struggled to turn her body and looked at the intruders. What she saw was a blurry shadow with a couple of glowing red eyes.

She was staggering, swaying back and forth, then she fell off from the balcony with her face upwards.

With pitiful tears flowing from her eyes, Adrianna gazed at the skies, her arms wide open. Then she heard a whistling sound in her ears as a swift rush of strong wind collided her body in midair.

As the winds carried the voices of her assailants, her ears caught three people having a heated argument.

They were snapping at each other.

And all three were women.

"Is she...If the Ancient One knows!"

"It was you who thought of that trick!"

"Both of you shut up! Damien wouldn't!"

Sadly, their words were unclear. What she mostly heard was the buzzing of her ears and the swoosh of air.

THUD!

Damien! She whimpered in her mind.

Before darkness claimed her, her last thought was of him.

Then nothing.

She did not know, her silent cry was instantly answered by a deafening roar in her head.

ADRIANNA!
