The following morning, after all the firefighters put out the fire in Central Park, it was time for Detective Cross to start doing her job. She ducked under the yellow tape that surrounded the perimeter of the park and got to searching for what started this whole mess. With her hands tucked away deep in her black leather biker jacket and her black combat boots that crunched the chard ground beneath her feet, it seemed as if she was on a very specific mission. Something out of the corner of her eye suddenly caught her attention and she came to a complete stop.
She looked down and saw a black velvet pouch that was curiously untouched by the flames. If this is what she thinks it is it would confirm her suspicions about the fire, giving her a new job and mission to do. She put on rubber gloves, crouched down, picked up the pouch, and opened it to find that it had fresh (not charred or burnt in any way) herbs and what appeared to be a pink quartz crystal in it. Once she saw the crystal, she closed up the pouch and put it in her jacket pocket then took out a pack of already burnt matches and tossed them near a burnt tree.
Normally she is not the one for tampering with evidence but when it's with things that can't be explained, she is the one to handle it. She started to walk away just as the police chief was heading towards her.
"So did you find out what caused all this, Detective?" he asked with a single raised eyebrow.
She looked at him then simply pointed in the direction of the burnt packet of matches and said, "You'll find all the evidence you'll need over there. Seems that you have an arsonist on your hands."
"What, you're not going to help?" he asked, a bit confused.
"Can't, I got some errands to run." She continued to walk away and called out, "But you guys can handle one little arsonist, so no big deal right? Anyways, I gotta go later, Chief."
She then got on her motorcycle and took off, leaving the chief of police wondering what it is that is so damn important for her to put off doing real detective work. He shrugged it off and then went back to his usual work, forgetting all about what he was previously thinking about.
