Iris learned about Scarlett's identity from other ladies in the gathering. According to that, Scarlett Orleans is the daughter of duke Leonard Orleans and niece of Vanessa's mother, and the current empress, Seraphina Bradford.
But she did not understand how any of this gave power for Scarlett to belittle the princess of this empire.
