The family of three spent a fulfilling time in the backyard that early morning.
Calix ran one lap around the lake before hurriedly returning to Leslie and Calliope. He carried the little dumpling over his shoulders, taking her to see the lake.
Not long after, Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond came to deliver breakfast to the deck. Without wasting time, they enjoyed the porridge, steamed buns and soy milk under the morning sun.
The group of painters arrived ten minutes before the appointed time. They let Calix join them after being asked by the man.
When the craftsmen transferred their equipment and cans of paints into the empty bedroom, Calix changed his clothes into a worn-out T-shirt and loose pants. He also wore a plain hairband, avoiding his fringes from sticking to his sweaty forehead later.
"Stay with Mama, en? Papa has work to do."
Calix patted Calliope's head twice before entering the empty bedroom.
