CAMERON'S POV
Everything is dark and somewhere in my body I could feel something hurt, but it wasn't much. I could also notice how someone was making little circles on my hand that practically made me fall asleep again, but I don't want to do it, I want to wake up and see Lara. After the car accident, I had been afraid of her reaction, because I know her well enough to know the anxiety could return just by looking at the condition of the car, which I imagine wasn't the best of all.
Slowly, I started to open my eyes and as I turned to the left, I could see Lara with her head on the stretcher and her thumb making small circles in my hand. Her eyes were closed, so I moved my hand a little and it didn't take long for my wife to open her beautiful eyes, bringing a smile to my face. "How are you?"
I was going to speak, but before I could open my mouth, Lara hands me a glass of water. I stare at her for a second not understanding anything and the smile grew a little more. "Don't look at me like that, I know you're going to need it" "No..." And it's at that moment I realize why I would need to drink, my throat stinging like it never had before. Lara laughed and raised the glass to my lips "I told you"
When I had finished, I put my head back on the pillow, but looking at her, who had my hand in hers, and I must say they were a little cold. "How are you, honey?" "Weird" she laughed, "Anything other than weird? Does something hurt?" I shook my head and stared at her. She looked like she was a little tired, but seems to be happy, calm and worried about something.
"Why are you staring at me so intently?" she asked and I smiled "One, because you're the most beautiful girl in the world, and two because I get the feeling, you're worried about something I don't know."
"I don't know how to tell you without sounding too bad, but you didn't come out of the accident so well" I looked at her confused, because I'm not understanding anything of what she's telling at this moment.
"What do you mean?" she sighed and turned her gaze back to me. "The car broke in two and then caught fire. You've got burns and quite a few complicated ones, you'll recover and you'll have scars, but your leg was pretty damaged... They couldn't fix it, so to speak."
It is at that moment I lift the sheet covering me from the hip down a little and I see half of my left leg is missing, which makes me understand what Lara means. I pull down the cover and stare at the ceiling for a couple of seconds and then focus my attention on Lara again.
"At least tell me something" I pulled my hand out of hers, took the one with the ring and kissed it. "Don't worry, I'm alive a that's what matters the most" she sighed, and then she was the one who kissed me, but on the temple. I could see a couple of tears come out of her, and I didn't like to see her like that, so I moved to the side of the gurney. "Come here, go"
It didn't take long for her to get on this one and ended up leaving her head on my chest. After a couple of minutes, I heard her breathing slow down, so I looked over at her and I could see she had fallen asleep, so I kept running my hand through her hair to see if she would relax more.
A short time later, I see the door slowly open and my mother finally appears in my field of vision. I smiled at her and told her to come in, making her, Bianca, Elis and Lara and Biancas's grandmother, and mother, come in. Her grandmother sat in the chair while the rest stood around the stretcher we're on. Bianca had stared at her sister, who is still sleeping.
"At least she fell asleep" I gave her a kiss on the forehead and pulled her a little closer and that's at that moment when I notice my arm is bandaged and I notice I also have part of my chest bandaged.
"How far do my burns go?" My mother stared at me without understanding too much and it's Eli who replies "The arm as I think you just noticed and part of the chest" I nodded and after an hour, they decided it's better to go to the hotel to rest for a while.
After they left, I was awake for a while thinking about what had happened to the car, because one moment it was doing great, and the next I ended up against the wall. The moment I get out of here I'll have to look into it, because that wasn't normal.
The next morning, I woke up early, but I could see how Lara is still asleep, so I avoided moving as not to wake her up, because with a little bit of moving, she used to wake up and it isn't what I wanted right now.
"I'm shocked she hasn't woken up all night" My turn turned in the direction the voice came to see Eli sitting in the chair and phone in hand. "How did you know I was awake?" Eli smiled, "Because we slept together enough times to know when you're awake or not."
I smiled and gave Lara a kiss on the forehead, and she eventually moved a little closer to me. After I made sure she wouldn't wake up, I turned in Eli's direction, who had left her phone beside her. "How are you?" my best friend got up and approached "Much better, but I think it's because of all the medicine I have on me" she laughed and left her hand on my shoulder, but being careful not to hurt me, but I'm completely sure I wouldn't notice. "Probably. Do you want me to bring you something to drink?" she said, looking at her phone.
Eli ended up looking up from her phone with a look of not knowing what I'm talking about, but if there's one thing I knew about my best friend, is something was wrong, and I wanted to know what it is, because I didn't like to see her like that. "I'm not the one in a hospital bed"
I rolled my eyes, and that comment practically confirmed to me something isn't right with her. "Now stop being funny and tell me what's really wrong with you," I said seriously, with one arm around Lara.
"It's nothing, it's just I haven't heard from Bianca since she left," she said, looking into her hands. It's strange Bianca isn't here, but I thought she'd gone home to rest for a while and come back later, or that she'd taken our mothers and grandmother to the hotel to rest.
"Didn't she take the rest to the hotel to rest?" I said, surprised, because if she hadn't done it and isn't here, I didn't know where she could be. "She did, but I don't know, I'm worried something might have happened to her."
She got up from the couch and when I had her next to me, I took her hand. "I know you're worried, but Bianca will be fine. You don't have to worry about her more than you should, really." My best friend nodded and put the phone in her pocket.
"I'd better go get something for breakfast for Lara and me. Do you want me to bring you something?" I shook my head and it didn't take long for her to leave the room, leaving me alone with Lara. After a few minutes, I see her eyes open and automatically, a smile appears on my face.
She raised her gaze to mine and then leaned on one of her elbows, leaning over and kissing me. "Good morning, honey. How are you?" she asked, running her hand gently over my chest to avoid hurting me.
"I still don't feel any pain, but I'm sure by the time I get out of here, it will be something I notice too much," she nodded and gave me a kiss on the shoulder. "I'm completely sure you do, but I'll help you and do everything in my power to try to make it hurt as little as possible."
"I know you will." I gave her a kiss and then she lay down again staring into nothingness. I loved it when we're quiet, it's never the awkward type, but I also loved hearing her voice.
After half an hour, Eli arrived at the room with everything she had bought, which I must say seemed too much for the two of them and we spent the morning talking. When my mother, Lara's mother, her grandmother and Bianca arrived, I stopped to focus for a while on my phone to watch videos of how Lara's race had gone, but what I found was news of my accident and it was most likely Lara's career would be over now I could not run. which it's stupid, because Lara is the best driver on the grid and I'm not going to let her retire the sport for me.
"Hey, are you okay?" I heard Lara say, causing me lock the screen quickly of my phone and try not to let her see the reason why I'm angry at this moment. I nodded and went on to put my phone down on the table next to me and focus on the conversation the most important women in my life were having.
