The Opportunity That He Missed

"You know why…" Marissa pushed his chest softly.

At that moment Blake caught and held her hand, "No, I don't know."

Her eyes rounded, surprised with his seriousness. Frozen, only her eyes blinking in anxiety.

"Kidding!" Blake pinched her cheek and got up. "Let's eat. I ordered pizza."

As Blake closed the door, she still froze on the bed and was stunned by his action. After taking a minute thinking hard about him, she dragged her body that still felt weak down from the bed.

"Ahhh!" She screamed out of surprise when the blanket came out of her body. She was not wearing anything from the waist down. Checking herself, she let out a relieved sigh as she saw her undies were still intact.

The door suddenly opened and Blake's face appeared behind the door, "Is there something wrong?" He looked panicked.

"Did you change my clothes?" She met Blake's eyes. For all the years that they had been friends, never once Blake changed her clothes. Perhaps because he found it was not necessary before and maybe not this time.

"Hmm…" Blake nodded his head hesitantly. "Are you mad?" He had a hard time trying to change her clothes earlier but if he didn't change it, he was afraid her fever would get worse.

She huffed in disbelief. The conversation she had with Micky this morning played on her mind. The fact that even when she stripped naked in front of him really didn't affect him at all slightly made her sad.

"I swear, I didn't see anything." Blake raised his hand, making a swear gesture. Obviously a lie, how could he change his clothes without seeing anything. The meaning of his words were related to her private part as he didn't take off her undies.

After a few moments of silence, she looked at his t-shirt that looked baggy on her. "It's okay, I'm not mad. Well, nothing will happen if it is you. Thanks Blake." A wide smile formed on her lips as she walked towards him. "Let's eat. I'm hungry." She tapped on his bottom and walked past him, going straight to the table.

Her words stuck in his mind, 'Nothing will happen if it is you?'

Blake felt offended with her statement. Didn't she know he was having a hard time every second she was near him?

"Where did you go earlier?" Marissa asked, munching on a slice of pizza.

Blake pulled a chair and took a seat, "Just a small family gathering."

"Ahh…" Her eyes shifted from him to the pizza box on the table. Honestly, being best friends for ten years, she didn't know much about Blake's family. He did tell her about his family business. A small company that was selling food but that's all. What kind of food? Where is the restaurant? And was it really small?

"I'm sorry." A sudden apology coming from Blake's lips.

"Huh?" She lifted his eyes. "Why?"

"I didn't know you were coming and made you wait for a long time." He said those words in a serious tone.

A second of silence filled the air until Marissa burst out laughing, "Why are you apologising suddenly? It's not like you."

"Next time just come in. The password is 240225." Blake said the password without hesitation. His eyes were still radiating coldness.

Another moment of silence came, she was still puzzled with a slight change in his behaviour.

"Aren't you afraid I will steal things in this house?" She joked around to brighten the mood.

He shook his head lightly, "You can take anything if you want."

"Wait!" The shriek sound from the chair reached their ears as Marissa stood up all of sudden. She rushed to Blake's side, "You didn't get any of my fever, right?" Her palm landed on his forehead.

Blake's head slowly moved backward and his eyes looked up, staring sharp at Marissa who was standing beside him.

"What? You are scaring me." Marissa took a step back but Blake grabbed his waist and pulled her onto his lap.

Marissa was shocked that her mouth slightly opened, gasping for air. Her eyes moving up and down looking at the face in front of her that was about two inches away.

While Blake, his dominating eyes were capturing every reaction Marissa gave.

"What are you doing?" She pushed his shoulders trying to get up only to get pulled closer. "Blake! Stop scaring me."

"I'm trying to test myself." Blake leaned his head closer, leaving the distance between them, a breath away.

Marissa chest heaving up and down faster, "What test?" At that moment, she was really uncomfortable with their position.

"Nothing will happen if it is me." He repeated Marissa's words. The words that hurt his ego.

Marissa's eyes widened. Her mouth that was slightly opened was now pursed tightly. 'Did I hurt him with those words?' Her cold fingers that were on Blake's shoulders slowly curled. "Hmm…I didn't mean it like that."

"Then, what do you mean?"

Blake's low voice seeped right deep in her ears and shook her heart. Goosebumps could be felt all over her body. "I…I mean…" She paused, her words stuck right at her throat.

The air in the room became colder. Their eyes met each other but both of their lips remained silent.

He didn't know why this woman in front of him didn't get the hint. Is it because of her misunderstanding of the past accident? But his feeling was so obvious that everyone around them could feel it. 'Did she truly not feel it or did she do it on purpose?'

Perhaps because he took too much time and the wall of misunderstanding grew too thick. Should he blame himself for taking too long? Every step he took to get closer to her seemed useless as he missed the right time to confess. The hesitation he felt all this time while making up his mind ruined his opportunity.

"Would you marry me if I ask you?" Blake's shocking question made Marissa's heart rambling.

She gulped, "What do you mean by marry?"

"I mean what I said."
