Let's Just Get Married

Blake hugged himself because of the night wind. Staying about twenty minutes at the motorcycle parking lot started to make his nose runny. He looked up at the level where Marissa's house was. If he followed his heart, he would already be knocking on her door but after a lot of thought, he decided just to stay there. It was not that bad, seeing her apartment would be enough for the day.

Seeing there was no Micky's motorcycle there, he guessed he still had not finished his night part time shift.

"Hmm yes, I already arrived at my house. Okay..."

The weak voice that reached Blake's ears made him hide immediately. He was so sure that was Marissa's voice. Hiding behind a tree nearby, he glanced at his watch, thirty minutes past midnight.

'What was she doing getting back this late?' He frowned but was still trying hard to take a peek on her face. The face that he missed for more than a week.

Marissa stopped in the middle of nowhere and still. She didn't move for almost a minute but then all of sudden dropped down. Squatting, she covered her face.

Blake's legs moved on his own but then after two steps he paused. Marissa was standing up again but she was staggering. He took another step forward to have a better look. He was sure she was not crying.

"Is she drunk?" He talked to himself.

Worried, he slowly walked towards her.

The loud laughter that came from the bus stopped at the front made Blake turn. There were two men heading towards Marissa's direction. Worried, he quickened his steps and gently placed his hand on her shoulders the moment he reached by her side.

Both men saw how he ran and looked at him weirdly. "Miss…are you okay?" One of the men asked out of concern.

"Huh?" Marissa's eyes rounded, trying hard to open her eyes. "Okay?" The blushing on her cheeks were obviously showing that she was drunk. "Ack!" She finally saw Blake by her side. Cupping both of Blake's cheeks, "I miss you!" She jumped happily and hugged him around his neck.

The men still did not feel comfortable leaving a drunk woman just because she said that. She might mistakenly recognise people in a drunken state. "Miss, are you sure you know this man?"

"Hum?" She pouted while blinking hard. "Of course." She smiled and turned, "Blake, my husband."

Hearing the word husband from Marissa's mouth, they felt relieved. On the other hand, Blake was stunned. She was that unpredictable when she was drunk, that was why he could never get his eyes off her whenever she was drunk. Anyone could be her husband when the time comes.

After both of the men left, Blake held the staggering Marissa tightly. "How much did you drink that made you get into this state?"

"Humm…" She pushed him away and raised up her hands. Folding his fingers one by one, she then paused when she folded all ten. "Oh!" She suddenly smiled looking at Blake. "Jane introduced me to a new drink, it was soooo bitter-" She staggered and almost fell but Blake quickly held her by the waist. "But then…it got better…" She giggled, finishing her sentence.

"Let's go…let me send you home." Blake held her gently and slowly moved towards the elevator.

"I don't want to go back!" She stopped suddenly and squatted. "The house is dark."

'Dark?' He thought she meant dark because it was already late and her mother was probably already asleep and switched off all the lights.

"It's okay, I will switch them on for you." He crouched down to match her eyes level but then Marissa looked up at him.

Marissa's lips suddenly trembled but she tried to form a weak smile. The weak smile that spread across her face when she had a hard time.

"Did she slap you hard?" He didn't know why, but that was the question that was out of his mouth at that moment.

She nodded, weak. "Here…" She held her head part that was slapped.

"Should I send her to hell?" He caressed her head. If Marissa said yes, he was ready to give his all to make sure that woman didn't even want to step out of his house anymore.

Marissa shook her head instead. "I'm sorry…"

"Why?!" He let out a huge sigh out of frustration. "Why do you always apologise, it is not your fault!"

"I'm sorry…" She paused and her mouth pouted, holding her tears, "I can't really pay you in the near future."

Out of frustration after hearing Marissa, Blake stood up. He walked back and forth to calm his blood that was now boiling. "And why couldn't you pay me?!" The question was out, out of anger.

"Because I might be fired tomorrow." She looked up to him and she was still unstable even when she crouched down.

"Get on my back, hurry!" Blake got on one knee and turned his back towards her.

She dragged herself like a penguin and hopped on his back. Wrapping her hands around his neck, she was ready to be piggyback on by him.

Blake gently stood up and pushed her up once to make her posture stable for him to carry. "You will not get fired. I will make sure that will not happen."

Pushing the button of the elevator, he could feel her breath on his neck when she rested her head on his shoulder.

"I still…" She paused as she was getting sleepy. "What should…do…I couldn't pay…" Her words were fading with the night wind but he could understand what she wanted to say.

"From the start I didn't ask you to pay." He stepped into the elevator when the door was opened.

"But…" Marissa raised her head so suddenly and her body almost fell to the back. It always happened that way and Blake would always be ready.

"Stay still, what if you fall?" He held her back and pushed her up once again.

"But…" She pouted, wanting to cry once again.

"No but…" He said, trying to make her stop talking.

"But I still want to pay the money back." She managed to say all the words she wanted to this time.

"Then let's just get married!"

Ding! He said those words alongside the door elevator being opened. The silence came between both of them and the cold night that was greeting their body made the situation numbing.
