Don't blink

Ria Valeir the highest-ranking freshman was touring her new school. She looked around the facilities and was impressed by the efficiency of the staff. Not only that she noticed that the students present were pretty decent. She then remembered three of her classmates that stood out. She was expecting that only the Samarita twins would be worthy foes. She was sure that it was one of the twins that beat her in the practical exams and tied with her on the written exam.

Yet now she was pleasantly surprised to see that there were more competitors. Sigmund Resteti the son of the hero. Though her classmates ridicule him, she knew better. That man had no openings whatsoever. It was like he was prepared to be attacked at any moment.

Aki Grimes another unchanged like Sigmund was also someone who was looked down upon, but Ria knew that like Sigmund, Aki had more to her than meets the eye. Ria who observed Aki while she was introducing herself, felt like Aki was about ready to cut down everyone in the room. That girl was like a sheathed sword suppressing herself waiting to be unsheathed.

Then there was Riku Ferer that most surprising of the three underlooked characters in the classroom. His overall appearance and demeanor seem to scream average. It was like he was trying his best not to stand out. Though he had the other students fooled with his act, Ria wasn't as easily fooled.

Ria who continued to think about some other things while walking around had her lips curve slightly upward.

...

As she walking around the campus Ria noticed some of her classmates were heading somewhere in a group. Curious about where they were heading Ria followed them.

The group then reached a large space at the back of the main campus. It was an open field filled with stages made from a material that became famous after the world changed.

'These stages are made from the scales of a B rank monster the giant stone crocodiles. This school has that much budget?' It would be normal for a school that specializes in training hunters to have a large budget, but what Ria saw was simply excessive. There were numerous stages made of the same materials, actually, it would seem that the hundreds of stages were all made of the same B rank monster.

As she was looking around Ria noticed that all of the battles taking place were just among the first-year students. It only took her a second to figure out why that was.

'I see, so the higher year levels have already solidified their rankings and they all know each other's strengths. The first years aren't that well acquainted and still don't believe the others to be above them.'

While Ria was thinking of such things, she finally arrived at her destination. The people watching the fight between Lester and Sigmund was the whole class 1-A. Seeing the commotion even some of the students from other classes came to watch.

The moment she saw who was fighting Ria became a bit intrigued. 'I'll get to see how good you really are.'

While Ria was looking for a place to watch the fight she spotted the Samarita twins who were eating some snacks while talking to each other. They seem so unconcerned even though their friend Sigmund was about to fight. The one he was about to fight Sigmund was Lester someone that was probably middle-ranked in Class 1-A.

'Oh, is Lester perhaps not even a challenge? Well, all the answers would be revealed when the fight starts.' Ria finally found a spot to watch the fight properly. Seeing the twins act that way made her truly interested in what the son of the hero could do.

...

Sigmund was calmly standing on the stage looking at Lester with a face full of indifference. He didn't really want to fight on his first day, but the fool before him said some things he should never say.

Lester who was facing Sigmund on the other side of the stage was getting annoyed. The look Sigmund was giving him was as if he was an insignificant person. Lester gnashed his teeth in irritation and wanted to attack Sigmund right at this moment. He kept on looking at the referee as he was itching to start.

One of Amanda's clones saw that the two sides seem ready to fight. She then looked at her watch and as expected it was already time for the fight to begin.

"Ready your weapons!" When Amanda shouted those words, Lester summoned flames that started to float around his body. Sigmund, on the other hand, didn't draw his weapons. His sword remained sheathed his gun remained in his holster. He didn't even take a stance, seeing what he was doing surprised many. Did he perhaps give up, or was he truly looking down on his opponent?

Amanda didn't care what Sigmund was doing as she raised her hand and shouted. "BEGIN!" The moment those words were uttered Lester was about to roast Sigmund, but before he could even move his hands, he felt numerous blows to his stomach, face, and neck. His sight was becoming blurry until everything turned dark. As he was about to faint Lester heard Amanda's voice. "Victory goes to Sigmund Resteti."

...

The people-watching at the side were very surprised. Almost everyone expected Lester to win and the few that felt Sigmund could win didn't expect him to win in such a fashion. They thought that Sigmund would struggle and barely win at the end. But the truth was different from what everyone expected Sigmund won overwhelmingly and most of them didn't even know how he did it. When the battle began Sigmund was standing at one end of the stage and at the end of the battle he was already standing at the other end behind Lester who suddenly fainted.

...

Ria who saw everything from beginning to end was amazed. Sigmund's muscles suddenly bulged a bit and then with movements almost too fast for the eye to see Sigmund dashed towards Lester. He then proceeded to punch and kick Lester in various vital spots, resulting in him fainting.

Ria couldn't help but smile a very enchanting smile that captivated those standing beside her.

...

Riku who was watching the fight from the third floor of a nearby building while using binoculars was licking his lips as he kept on writing on his notepad.

'That was one of the old techniques, it was the same technique Lyner used in his final battle. I've watched that video a hundred times, I can't be mistaken. Was that perhaps a family technique passed down from generation to generation?... Hmmm... Well, seeing this, it would seem like it would take more time before I can make my move.'

As Riku was about to pack up and leave, he saw Sigmund looking directly at him. It was just a brief moment, but it made all of Riku's hair stand in fright. Sigmund then looked elsewhere as he and the Samarita twins disappeared from view.

'Did he spot me?' Riku was shocked by that sudden event and after calming down a bit he started to laugh. 'Sigmund Resteti... Hehehe, this place really is a Toyland, full of fun toys to play with.'
