01| Moving and new starts

"Mom, Dad do we really have to move?" I whined while we were driving to our new neighborhood. I love New York, all my friends are there and if we move to California, I'll have to start all over. I was lying against a pillow in the car looking out the window and occassionally on my phone as we drove.

"Hun, your being a bit dramatic. Your going to have a fresh new start for high school. You don't want to stay in a neighborhood where everyone knows many things about you and can make up lies throughout your school year right? Besides, your father and I worked hard to buy this house in Cali. You can still text and call you friends in Cali can't you?" Mom said and then went back to chatting with Dad.

"Sis, it'll be alright. Besides, you won't have to go through 4 years of high school seeing your ex." I heard Ashton assure me. I still don't like the thought of it though. We been living in Manhattan for most of our lives and it was perfectly fine. There's no need for change.

I looked up at my older brother and said, "I guess you do make a point Ash." I fell into a nap and woke up to see us still driving.

"Mom, Dad the sleeping head has woken up." Ashton said. I glared at him and threw my pillow at him. He caught it and winked at me.

"Don't be such a grinch, Addison. California's nice and you were sleeping for a while." Dad said still keeping an eye on the road. I rolled my eyes and felt my phone buzz in my pocket. It was a text from Hazel back at the Big Apple.

"Who was that? You better not be seeing some guy." Ashton asked. I looked at him and laughed.

"Seriously? That's what you think I'm doing? It's Hazel, your crush." I huffed but smirked.

"Oh. Sorry Addi, I just don't want you to get hurt again. And what did Hazel say?" Ashton said blushing a bit.

"Oh she said that she missed us all and she had to go on her 2nd date with her boyfriend." I said with a smile tugging on my lips.

"Oh. 2nd date?" I heard him mutter the last sentence under his breath.

"Aww, don't worry Ash. She still loves you." I said feeling bad for my brother and hugged him.

"Cheer up kids! Don't be so sad and upset. We're here!" Dad exclaimed joyfully as the car came to a halt. Ashton and I both looked out the window.

"Wow this house is a masterpiece of art. It looks much better in real life than it did through pictures." Mom said while aweing our new house.

"Is this really ours?" I asked Mom and Dad.

"Yes yes, yes it is." they said while laughing.

"Oh my god. Thank you so much!" I gasped.

"Gotta say, this is a damn new upgrade." Ashton said.

"C'mon kids, moving truck will arrive in any minute." Mom said and got out of the Jeep. Dad followed and we followed.

"Let's head in." Dad said and we followed walking in awe. Mom took out the keys and gave a pair to Dad, Ashton and I. She opened the door.

"Go ahead and explore. Choose your rooms." Dad began but we bolted upstairs as soon as it came out of his mouth. I looked at the rooms opening and shutting doors with Ashton following. Each room was furnished already. None of them felt right to me. Ah ha! This 4th door I opened feels right for me.

"I call this room!" I shouted.

A few moments later, Dad, Mom, and Ashton appeared at my side.

"I see you found your room Addi. How bout you Ash?" Dad questioned.

"The second one is my fit. It has an Xbox and it just feels right." Ashton happily replied.

"The moving truck is here! We should start unpacking." Mom said. We walked downstairs and carried boxes into the house.

*few minutes later*

We finished unpacking the living room, kitchen, bathroom, laundry room things. It was now time to go upstairs and unpack some more. I went up to my room and began unpacking.

Took several hours but it was worth it. My room looks amazing! I took a look of my room again and smiled to myself. I heard my brother and parents come in my room.

"Wow. You designed this room so uniquely. It seems so much like you." Ashton said.

"Aww your hours of being in your room and rumaging in boxes was worth it sunshine." I heard Mom gush. We were standing there admiring the hardwork until we heard the doorbell ring. We looked at each other.

"Whose that?" I asked. The three shrugged not knowing who could possibly be ringing our doorbell. Mom and Dad headed downstairs as Ashton and I went exploring the rest of the house.

Ryder POV:

"Honey, our new neighbors moved in. Lets head over there and greet them." I heard my Mom say from the kitchen. I don't feel like it though. Our last neighbors were so stuck-up. Besides, I have to go meet up with the boys...

"Do I have to?" I asked from the gaming room. I heard my little sister run to my mom and giggle. Dad was helping her put together her doll set.

"Son, c'mon. Bring this welcome to Cali basket your mother and I made with us to our neighbors." Dad chimed.

"Kay' but I'm hanging with the boys and heading to a party." I said.

*yada yada yada...Ringing the bell*

My mom rang their doorbell. The door opened to a couple smiling brightly at us. "Welcome to the neighborhood! I'm Olivia Thompson and this is my family. This is my husband Blake Thompson and my two kids, Ryder and Lilac." my mom chirped. Lilac hid behing my parents and I gave a small wave and went back to texting.

Addison's POV:

We found Mom and Dad chatting with people at the front door. As we came down the stairs, the chatting stopped. "You must be the lovely children that your parents were talking about." I heard the woman said. She must be the neighbor that rang our doorbell. There was a woman and man about Mom and Dad's age and a boy Ashton's age and an adorble girl.

"They called us lovely? How sweet. I'm Ashton and this is my baby sis Addison." Ashton said carefreely. The adults laughed. I scanned the family standing before us, the boy was cute. Wait no, Ash would kill me if I got hurt again.

"Why don't we meet up for dinner tonight?" The lady who I found out was Olivia suggested.

"That would be perfect." Mom and Dad said.

The rest of the summer, the two familes/neighbors grew to become best friends.
