Sucker's bet

(Note: I changed the location from New Jersey to Vegas.I also edited the location in the previous chapter. Just adding this so you won't get confused.)

"Fuck, there's gotta be something wrong with this machine." Maya was grabbing her hair as she was wondering if she should break the high limit slot machine in front of her.

Asura watched her while trying to hold back his laughter he just won another 500$ from the machine in front of him.

"It's not fair. Why the hell haven't you lost even once but I haven't won even once?"

"Maybe cause I'm the main character?" Asura joked. Seriously though, why was he a damn side character?

Maya pouted,"What's that supposed to mean?"

Asura just laughed."Let's go back. We don't want you to go broke in a single night, do we?"

Maya sighed in frustration, but agreed nonetheless. It seemed lady luck was being a bitch to her today.

As they were about to head back, Asura saw a game that he really enjoyed. By he, he meant Edward. Of course, he only played poker online because he didn't have any friends in real life. It seemed Edward's love for poker had been transfered to Asura alongside his memories.

He stopped. Maya looked at him in confusion. "Why did you stop ?"

Asura just started walking towards the poker table. There were 3 middle-aged men there. It seemed they had just finished a game. "Hey, Can I play?"

The men looked at him and said, "Run along, pretty boy, go home and watch some cartoons or something. You're not old enough."

"Afraid of losing to a kid?"

"Not really, how old are you anyway?"

"Old enough."

The man just sighed and said,"Go ahead. But get lost once you lose."

Maya: "Wow, didn't think you would be interested in poker."

Asura just brought his mouth close to her ear and said playfully,"There are a lot of thinks you don't know about me."

Maya just blushed.

Asura sat down as the dealer started dealing the cards.He looked down at his cards and had an indifferent expression on his face.

Nobody folded.The first man checked, and Asura raised by 50$, the other 2 also checked.The dealer revealed the flop which was a queen of spades, a 4 of hearts and an 8 of diamonds. Nobody folded, the first man checked, Asura raised by 200$, the second man also raised by 250$ , and the last man checked.

The dealer revealed the turn which was a 7 of spades.The first man checked, Asura raised by 300$, the second man raised by 350$, and the last man just didn't trust the river too much and folded.

The dealer revealed the river, which was a 4 of diamonds. Everybody revealed their cards and the two men grumbled something about the stupid river as Asura sighed in relief.

The first man had a 3 and 5, he would've gotten a sequence if the river was a 6.The other man had a queen and a 4, but Asura had 2 Aces. If the river wasn't a 4, he would've lost to the guy with a queen and a four.

He turned to the man he almost lost to, who was also the one who smack talked him earlier and said,"What was that about losing ?"

The man gritted his teeth, "That was a sucker's bet with almost no chance of you winning, you just got lucky and won because of the river. "

Asura turned to Maya,"Wanna play ? These people are obviously way below me."

"You motherfucker"

Maya giggled," I would, but I don't know how to play."

"Just wait till the next match, you brat."

"Whatever, old man"

The situation ended with Asura winning 10 matches in a row and making about 40,000$ and then not being allowed to play any more matches.

Asura and Maya just ended up going home after that as it was already 2 am and went to sleep.

No,you horny people. They slept in their own rooms. Maya could act however she wanted, but as a pure blood devil, she couldn't go around sleeping with just anybody.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day....
Asura opened his eyes and looked at the time. He found that it was around 10 am in the morning. He looked outside and saw Isaiah training by swinging his sword at a target.
He went downstairs to find everyone eating breakfast.
"Morning"
"Oh hey, Ed. I was about to wake you up for breakfast, but didn't want to interrupt your sleep." Tanwen said
Yeah, right. He was probably too lazy to wake him up.
"I told him to wake you up since his room was closest to yours, but the bastard was too lazy." Liz commented.
"Oi, you were too lazy to wake up Maya too."
Tanwen said.
As they were arguing, Maya got downstairs.
"Morning"
Asura and Maya sat down and started eating. As they were eating, Asura asked,
"I saw Isaiah outside training.Won't he eat?"
"Oh, he already ate. He does nothing but train whenever he gets time. Since, there is no school today, he's probably gonna be training the whole day." Adriel said.
Aria remained silent.
"Wait, what do you mean, school ? You guys actually go to school ? Like, why would people from the supernatural world go to school ?"
"Well, mostly just to blend in with normal humans." Liz replied.
That kinda made sense, just kinda though. He still thought it was a waste of time though.
After breakfast, Asura went outside to watch Isaiah train. From what Adriel said, he was a trainaholic. Tanwen was curious what Asura was upto and followed him.
Asura looked at Isaiah training and thought that he was not really that impressive, and thought that he was probably training something other than swordsmanship too. The guy looked really determined though.
"Damn. That boy is really talented. He's gonna be one hell of a swordsman when he grows up." He heard Tanwen say.
That gave him a general idea of how this lower world compared to Atsolaes. In Atsolaes, Isaiah would not be considered terrible, but he would certainly not be a genius either. He was just around average for his age.
Asura went up to Isaiah, who had just temporarily paused his training and was resting,
"Hey, Who are you training to kill ?"
Isaiah looked up at Asura and said, "What are you talking about ?"
"It's obvious. Whenever you're swinging that sword, you look like you're swinging at someone you absolutely despise. That's good in a fight, but training....."
Isaiah was getting annoyed, "If you wanna act like a know it all, you wanna see how well you do practically?"
Asura shrugged."Sure."
Isaiah got up and picked up a wooden sword. You could see he was tired from his training.
Asura snapped his fingers and murmured 'Restore'."Now, you don't have an excuse."
Isaiah felt much more energetic like he hadn't been training for 4 hours straight. He looked at Asura and said, "Are you trying to create an excuse that you exhausted your mana by using a mana consuming spell before the fight ?"
Asura looked at him weird, " Why would I need mana for a swordfight ?"
Isaiah looked at him in surprise,"Aren't you a magician though ? How are you gonna fight with a sword."
"I'm a bit of both."
Isaiah scoffed, "And you expect to beat me when you're not even a full swordsman."
Asura just picked up a wooden sword and shrugged.
As Asura and Isaiah were having their chat, Aria had come outside.
Tanwen looked at her and said,"Oi lil girl, I bet 10,000$ that Ed is gonna destroy your friend."
Aria was annoyed at first, being called a lil girl, but responded nonetheless, "That's a sucker's bet. No way Isaiah loses to a half-magician in a swordfight. I'll bet 10 grand on Isaiah."
Meanwhile, Asura and Isaiah were getting ready for their fight. Isaiah looked at Asura, who looked completely relaxed and frowned, "You ready?"
"Mmm"
Isaiah rushed at him and swing his sword in a vertical direction. Asura saw him rushing and grabbed the sword that he was holding with only one hand, with both hands and blocked his swing. He smirked and added a a bit more force, with which he threw Isaiah back.
Isaiah was surprised as to how easily Asura flipped him off and looked in front of him and noticed that Asura was nowhere to be seen.
He felt something touch his neck and looked down to see Asura holding his sword to his neck with an indifferent look in his eyes. What was up with that speed? He didn't even have the time to notice.
"You should be ready for a counterattack when you're the first one to attack you know."
Isaiah looked at Asura in anger. How could he lose to someone who didn't even take the sword seriously and trained mana alongside the way of the sword. He gritted his teeth,"Again"
'Isn't he supposed to be a direct subordinate of heaven, the heavenly father, the angels and what not? Wasn't wrath one of the seven deadly sins?' Asura thought with amusement.
The commotion had brought Dagon, Maya, Liz and Adriel outside as well. They all looked pretty surprised. They all recognized Isaiah to be the strongest among them. And, Asura beat him with little to no difficulty.
Tanwen looked at Aria, "So what was that about a sucker's bet? Pay up, lil girl?"
Aria was to shocked to say anything and just muttered, "Later."
