While on her way out of the matron's office, Rhian couldn't help but wonder who Angelo was. Granted, she had stolen his best friend's watch, but why was she attracted to him?
Maybe she was just delusional.
She couldn't help but wonder what would happen if she stayed here with him.
There was a chance that they would fight to the dead, considering Angelo was rightfully pissed at her and her stealing tendencies, but it was not like Rhian hadn't heard of the famous satan that the city was scared of. But he never scared her.
Satan or not, if ever he had something that Rhian wanted, then she would get it, no questions asked. She wondered what it was that brought her, the good thief, and satan's reincarnation together, or maybe he was here for her soul.
But that was stupid, just like the voice in her head was. Rhian still couldn't find a way to make things easily understood here.
She didn't know how to apologize.
She didn't want to look so much at Angelo because she was sure he could already feel her staring at him. But he was good at ignoring.
After their little outburst, Angelo had gone silent save for the time when he told their nana to continue with the horror story that was theirs. Why did it seem like he was not acred about all this? Wasn't he also an orphan and a visiting of familiar circumstances?
Well, Rhian had done er homework on the city's most feared teen, and possibly in the next two hours, he would be the city's most feared satan.
Looking at him, Rhian questioned a lot of things, but none more than the calmness he was exhibiting right now. He looked like he had accepted their fate, one that they were suddenly plunged into.
A fate that Rhian was never going to let herself accept. She was not going to let herself be part of a people that the books considered dead and the books she had read were dated years and years and years ago. If he wanted to stay, then the only thing Rhian could do was silently wish him well.
"Hey, about the watch, I'll leave it at the restaurant. Please tell your brother, I'm sorry. Really. If it were so important to him, I wouldn't have done it. And also pass my apologies." Rhian said to Angelo who was so engrossed in the matron's books.
What was so interesting about the books anyway?
"Hmm..okay" Angelo replied and Rhian couldn't help but feel stupid. The one time she wanted to do something good, she was disregarded. Maybe this was her punishment. She didn't even know why she wanted to tell that to Angelo so bad.
She could have just gone back to the restaurant and dropped it without telling anyone. Anyway, at least she was not going to stay here and know what would happen to them in the next two hours. Or maybe it was an eclipse, well whatever it was, she was not staying to know.
She was going to leave.
As she got out of the office, she was met with a group of people who looked at her lie she was really their god. She wanted to scream in their faces, but she had already caused enough chaos for one night.
She was going to ignore the respectful stares that the three older men gave her. They kind of reminded her of the three wise men in the bible, the only difference was that she was not a good person.
she was bad.
She was a thief and the scriptures condemned stealing.
There was no reason for her even to stay here.
"look, whatever fantasy it is that you guys have, leave me out of it. I can assure you, I'm just a plain girl that steals to survive and lives in an old van, showers in public bathrooms that stink. My parents were mauled by dogs when I was young though I'm starting to think otherwise.
I am the definition of cursed, so just leave me be. I have nothing to offer you even if I were truly your god. I must take my leave now. It would be terrible if I died in the same place that saved me.
I get that you are hoping for me to be a hero suddenly, but I am a thief, I may not kill, but I am a thief. That pretty much sums up my life. Other than the fact that I have a strange voice in my head that keeps calling me Hera.
I'm tired and I would like to die elsewhere. Maybe at a party or something. You guys take care of yourselves. Again, I'm sorry if I was chaotic at first, but now that even nana is scared of me, I have nothing to do here.
I feel like my second mother just left me too.
Please don't stop me, I don't know what I will do to anyone who tries to stop me. I don't want chaos, and pass my apologies to the guard at the gate. I really am sorry."
When she finished talking to the group, she wanted them to sigh in relief, because that is what she would have done if she was in their place. She would have been happier because the trouble was leaving, so why did she think she heard them whimpering slowly?
Maybe it was her imagination, but just like she had said, she didn't want any trouble. She knew the older men were going to try something, but she had warned them.
If they did anything, she wasn't going to be responsible for whatever she did. So with one last look at the group, she looked at the sky and was glad the moon was full tonight.
At least she wouldn't have to use the weird night-vision tonight. She walked away from the people who were still looking at her sadly.
She wanted to stay for some reason, but she didn't know them. She didn't know anything about this world and she didn't want to be a fraud, not that she would ever admit that to them.
As she passed the gates, she knew it was almost midnight. She only had seventy-five minutes to know whether she would be alive or if she would die. And if she did, she hoped the world would be a better place without her.
