Chapter-8 Eva....or Era.....

It was Eva... back again...It  was like she slept for a long time,

she was surprised to see herself in the on-call room and tried to recall what happened, what she remembered was the part where  she followed David sir to the VIP  ward, and now she was in the on-call room,

she imagined every possibility that could happen to her as if she bumped into a wall and passed out and David sir carried her back, or she slipped again and her rescuer, Ben carried her back again.. and also the last and most dangerous one was she saw blood diffused to someone and passed out in the arms of David sir.... all those fantasies came to an end when her phone rang,

David sir... She answered the call,

" hello, ... sir "

with fear, what he was going to say.

"It's me, you said you'll scrub in with me so you need to be prepared, come and take the references, "he said,

Eva was shocked, she thought to herself ' when the hell did I ask him that I'll scrub in ....what !! scrub in the surgery where an operation is going on a lot of blood will there and I have to be there ...with my fear for blood.... to do what passes out again before David sir ... when did it happen...did I get caught, so that David sir is testing me to disqualify me....oh no

" Are you coming now ? or do I have to send a stretcher for you there...??"

David said furiously as she didn't answer him...

"yes sir I'll be there"

she said with huge disappointment.

She was still thinking,

"what happened, why can't I remember anything, when did I ask sir to scrub in, what is this all about..."

She was walking with the coat, in her hand but didn't think of wearing it. She didn't remember a thing about having her meal, and thought,

" my mind just doesn't work when my stomach is empty, I should grab something before going there "

and then went to the canteen.

The man in the canteen said hello to her and asked whether she liked the cake, now she was puzzled again,

She remembered that she booked a chocolate cake yesterday, but she didn't remember receiving it, so she asked

" Where is my cake",

"oh come on don't joke around I am busy right now, " he said, then after seeing Eva in a confusion, he continued

" wait you don't remember taking that with you, did you just lose it ..oh darling I'll make you one tomorrow... what else do you want?",

She was roaming in her thoughts and was unable to order anything,

"When did I buy the cake and where did I lose it... why can't I remember anything.."

he looked at her for a while, as she didn't order, and then got busy with his work.

Meanwhile, she checked her bag and there.. she found the cake. She took it out and keep staring at it as if it was not a cake but, was a bomb,

Ben came there to have a coffee and saw Eva staring at the cake, he can't stop himself from laughing and came near to her. He started staring at the cake as well and asked silently

"Is it a new trending style of eating cake or is it something else I can't imagine? ",

It was so sudden when she hear his voice and seeing him so near to her, she was shocked and the cake slipped from her hands, and she lost her balance.

Ben caught the cake with one hand and grabbed her with another hand just in case she'll fall. Uh... everything was stopped again...

she grabbed the cake and ran away from there. He smiled and left the canteen with his coffee.

Eva rushed to David sir's office and asked,

"May I come in sir",

"yes come in "

he said.

Eva got in, she was thinking of ways to refuse to join him for the surgery. but,

"grab those reference books..., you know,.. what books you need to take right"

he said while pointing toward his shelf in the corner of the office.

She went there and started looking for the books,

"pulmonary reference books are on the third shelf "

he said.

Eva started looking for the books on the third shelf. Meanwhile, Ben came straight into the office and said

"you know that happened again, she ran away when she saw me, you tell me....,do I look like a ghost or as furious as you, why did she run away"

he asked David, without noticing that Eva was standing at the corner of the office.

David gave him an annoyed look and said

"What happened to you Ben, you were never like that.. you didn't knock on the door, you didn't notice there are people around you..and you started talking casually.. what is this Ben ?"

Ben turned back and saw Eva standing there, he was so embraced.

Eva was surprised to hear Ben talking about her and started blushing, she left the room with some books in her hands and her head down. She was already tensed because of the surgery, and now here comes Ben to add toppings to it.

Ben was so embraced and didn't know what to say, David said

" what now..? what was that you were talking about, how is she?.. look I don't have time to waste, I have surgery to perform tomorrow,...I need to be prepared, so if it's not something important... Let's talk about it afterward."

Ben had nothing to say..he left calmly.                             

Eva walked out of that room and went to the terrace, it was the only place where she could sit calmly for a while.

She thought " is he hitting on me? wow...I can't believe this..... let's not get distracted for now... I know he is so handsome...but I just can't get disturbed right now... uh let's just focus on the main thing ..uhh the surgery... how can I refuse to attend it ... should I just pretend to be sick... come on I am not in the school is a hospital..and the one I am dealing with is a doctor himself.."

she was going on with her thoughts, her phone rang again it was David sir

"Why do you keep running away, I had to call you back...the books I told you to take are here, I know you are not a very good doctor but I thought you are at least a doctor..but you can't even pick the correct references .. come here right now"

he said in a freaking voice.

Eva was terrified and took a look at the books she brought with her, those were not books about pulmonary surgeries,

" sorry sir I was in a hurry, just give me a minute I'll be there"

she said.

Now on her way back she thought "am I that dumb .. what... he can't call me a doctor ... ya fine I knew that I am not a good doctor but I am good at studies... how could he say that...Mr. Freak....uhh ...the more I wanna get along, the more he annoys me.... everybody makes. mistakes.. hmm ",

just to avoid making him angry she took out the coat and wore it...

blackout again.....

it was Era back again ..she acquired her body again. she was shocked.. all she remember was that she was in the on-call room but she was now outside David sir's office room....how ..she tried to think ..and tally what the cause might be ... the phone rang again...

" do you think I have a whole day... I need to step out.. come fast.." said David.

Era couldn't sort it out but she knows that she has to go in.

" May I come in sir?" she asked.

"come in.." he said furiously.

Era stepped in silently and stood there, David threw two of the books on the table in front of her, and said,

" These were the books you were supposed to take "

Era saw the books in her hands those were about cardiac surgeries she thought

" Eva is certainly not a good surgeon, how could she take cardiac references instead of pulmonary references... or maybe she had her reasons...I wonder how she reacted.... "

She took those books and went to the shelf to put the other books back, there she found vol 3 of pulmonary references she took it and asked David

" sir can I borrow this as well, the case tomorrow is more related to this",

David was shocked again, he couldn't why her behavior was different sometimes,

he said " yes,  but could you complete all three in one day? "

Era was completely dissolved in the books and said,

" yes sir, I know I just have to go through the main points... I can do that..",

David keep staring at her but she didn't even notice. She said thank you sir and left with the books...
