Chapter 4 [Updated 19/6/23]

When Serene came back to, she could see that she was standing in an empty field filled with tall grass overlooking a small cliff that overlooks the ocean. The scent of salt was in the air, and a constant gentle but cool breeze was blowing Serene's hair back. The crashing of the waves against the rocks of the cliff could be heard far below. A sun was currently rising over the ocean horizon, creating a beautiful orange sky. The rays of light reflect off of the ocean far away. Serene was just drunk on the peacefulness and calmness that had invaded her. It took a few minutes for Serene to come back to her senses and pry herself out of her stupor. Serene shook her head and slapped her cheeks a few times in order to put herself back on track. However, Serene now actually paying attention to her surroundings noticed that the sun wasn't one, but two. There was a larger yellow sun, but there was also a smaller white star too. It blended in with the sky and the clouds that she almost missed it at first. Serene didn't know how two-star solar systems worked, but it was a strange and beautiful sight to see. Finally done gazing at the beautiful sight, Serene decided it was time to move on. Turning around, Serene could see a small little town not too far away, and the sounds of civilization were all presently radiating from there. Further beyond the town was a large forest, with trees that towered over the landscape. However, before she could move a sudden sound took her attention.

Two sudden panels of words appeared in Serene's vision. It took just a few moments to read through them before they disappeared from Serene's vision. With just a thought, she was able to pull them back out in case she wanted to read them, as well as being able to shun them away. The next thing Serene was able to notice was the differences with her new self. Her skin tone was paler than she remembered it being, as well as the fact that she could see strands of her now pure white hair dangling down. She could feel that it was much longer and felt much smoother, almost silk-like to the touch. It was also obvious that she had much longer slender legs than she was used to. Finally, she saw that she was wearing some simple garments, basic brown pants, and a linen white shirt.

"I guess I should get to the town," Serene mused to herself. Taking one last look behind her at the cliff and ocean view she began her journey to the town, wadding through the tall grass that came up to her waist. As she continued getting closer to the town, she could hear the waves behind her getting fainter and fainter. She couldn't help but be disappointed that the sound wouldn't continue to persist. She made a mental note to come back to this town occasionally so she could lie down and listen to the waves.

After just a short bit of walking, she finally got close to the village edge. Only now did Serene notice that the town had huge walls surrounding it, and the only entrance she could see is right where she was at. The entrance was a massive gate with two gigantic wooden doors. Coming out of the tall grass, Serene walked up a small incline to get onto a dirt road that would lead directly to the gate inside. She could see two men standing at the front gate, each was holding what looked to be a spear and was standing guard. They each also seemed to be wearing a form of armor that she couldn't recognize, however, it did seem like there was a white fur attached to their armor. It had thick furs but looked much more organized and well-crafted than some basic hide armor. As she was the only one on the road she could only assume that they were sizing her up. As she got closer one of the guards stepped forward and called to her.

"Halt! State your buisness!" Serene stopped and went to answer them, but it was at that moment that Serene realized something, she hadn't come up with her story. She didn't want to be like everyone else, using the title of 'Emmortales' to get around. She wanted to create her own adventure, not burdened by the baggage of being a 'player'. She needed to think of something.

"Hi-ya, I'm um... I'm um..." Serene was quickly trying to rack her brain for a plausible solution. She could only come up with one thing quickly.

"I hit my head really hard after I ended up falling and I can't remember much. Could you guys let me in, I'm rather lost and I don't know where home is." Serene decided that going with being an amnesic was the quickest and easiest way to get past this hurdle. This way she could always come up with something later, and she always had an excuse for why she didn't know some things. It was honestly a golden ticket excuse.

"You're an amnesic," the guard who stepped forward asked.

"Yea," Serene scratched the back of her head out of embarrassment before carrying on. "I was hoping maybe I could stay here for some time until maybe I get my memories back." The guard who stepped forward could only let out a confused 'uh' sound while looking back at his partner. His partner could only shrug his shoulders in confusion as well.

"She doesn't look to be a threat. The guards inside could take care of her if she ever got out of line," the guard in the back said.

"I guess that's true," the guard in the front said. "Alright, you can come in, but don't make any trouble."

"I'll make sure to not cause trouble," Serene said innocently. She slowly began to walk past guards but was stopped by the guard in the back.

"Wait, before you can go in, we need to know your name." Serene could only curse to herself again. She hadn't thought to think about her name either. She could use the amnesic excuse again, but one of the tutorial quests specifically asked her to name herself. This was probably the game giving her an opportunity to accomplish the quest.

"I think... I think my name is Rain," she blurted out. She didn't know where she got the idea from, but she honestly liked it.

"Alright, Rain, you can go in," the guard said. Rain sheepishly nodded in response. When the guard said her name, she felt a strong aura from the guard, like he could quickly crush her. She didn't know what the feeling was, but it took her by such surprise that she couldn't respond to the man. 'I hope he wasn't offended' Rain thought to herself. Right after she passed the big gate doors three sounds stole her attention.
