Royce
I had been worried about Carrigan since the night before. She mentioned something about black roses, and I hadn’t talked to her since. I figured I’d come to visit her after work today. She was doing a double, I knew.
Nico and I had been texting all day about my appointment with Lou. As usual, he was a nosy friend, but I could tell he meant well.
NICO: You know Lou’s right about your parents.
ROYCE: Oh wow, when did I get another therapist?
NICO: Very funny. I’m the original therapist, thanks.
ROYCE: You’re the original FRIEND I made when my world fell apart, Nico. There’s a difference.
NICO: Which is?
ROYCE: I pay Lou.
NICO: You what? Damn, I’m losing my touch. Lou’s getting paid, so what am I, chopped liver?
ROYCE: You couldn’t pay me to have chopped liver anywhere near me. You’re more than a Turkey Club.
NICO: Because?
ROYCE: You’re reliable and dependent.
