A Discovery

“I don’t know, I only heard it from his cousin, the owner of the billiard hall,” said Allan. “He was discovered dead after his wife went searching for him inside city morgues.”

“Why morgues? Why not hospitals? Or jails?” I asked with curiosity.

“If he was inside a hospital or inside a jail, authorities could have informed his family, but no one came so they assumed he was dead. Besides, he was an ex-con so it was only natural to look for him inside morgues.”

“How is that?” I said. The lad’s insight was beginning to make me look simple-minded, naïve and ignorant. He only gave a slight shrugged of his shoulders to my inconsequential question. “Good for his wife to search for him, if she did not, her husband would have been dumped in a pauper’s grave with no one knowing he’s dead.”

“Why is that?” I asked, again. The questions kept coming out from my head.
