Chapter 7

The boys surrounded her ready to lunge.

I felt so weak. I couldn't do anything but watch. They two boys pinning me down were strong. I couldn't move at all. I am so useless.

"Stop. Please!" I begged at Smith

"No can do Dillian."

"Since this fight is a bit unfair, may I use somethin' to help me dance?"

They turned to Smith for affirmation.

"Sure."

She walked towards a bush near the gates and crawled into in halfway. She pulled out a pair of big black boxing gloves. She walked back where she was standing.

I looked at Smith. Amusement shine in his eyes along with...love? Nah. Must be something else.

"Did I fergit to mention dat I got three older brothers?" She smiled evilly.

Why was I worrying again? She got everything under control.

"Kill that slut!" I turned towards Smith and glared at him.

Then they all lunged at her. And I couldn't take my eyes off her.

She dodged and punched and kicked and twirled as if she does this every day. With all honesty, I am pretty sure she did. Is that why she had a knife? I wondered...

Not long after, Scarlet was the only one standing. She stood there tiredly. She had a black eye already forming, clutching her left arm, and favored her right leg. She had several cuts, bruises, and blood trailing down her body. She was breathing heavily and unevenly.

She laughed. "I gotta say, I'm a bit rusty. Been awhile."

She really is something, isn't she?

"Nice work slut! Now my turn."

Now is when I got concerned. She is so tired, she looks as if she could fall and collapse.

"Brin' it!" She stood straight. Laughing.

She really wants to die. More than me. And that says something.

She put her arms up to guard her face and stood there. Ready to fight.

He lunged at her and started punching her. She stayed on defense.

This continued for a while. Scarlet suddenly switched footing and went on the offensive.

I felt tired just by looking at her.

After what seemed like forever, Smith finally yielded wiping the blood from his nose on his shirt.

"Let him go boys. I had my fun today."

The guys holding me let me go. I sprinted to Scarlet just enough to catch her.

I was holding her unconscious body in my hands. I put her on my back and left the school without looking back over my shoulders.

I reached to park we were at last night. I set her down on the bench gently. I doubled over and panted heavily. Note to self: Never skip gym class again.

I double checked on her and ran to the nearest convenience store. Which is like a 5-minute sprint.

I ran through the aisles picking up a first aid kit, water, snacks, and a little gift of thanks.

I went to the cashier and paid.

I sprinted back to the bench. She was still asleep. I have never done this much running in all my life.

She looked so peaceful; excluding the injuries.

I took off her gloves and tucked them under the bench. I opened the first aid kit and started cleaning her wounds.

The memory of her doing the same to me resurfaced in my head. She is in all this trouble because of me. I sighed to myself. Everybody I love gets hurt...or dies.

I cleaned her up enough until I was satisfied with the results.

I sat down on the grass next to the bench and watched after her. Wondering if she'll wake up any second now.

My eyelids started feeling heavy. I couldn't keep them open much longer.

I fell asleep with my head resting on the bench next to her as the night fell and the stars shone.
