The town where time stands still

My eyes gaze over the old fashioned town before me. From the hill top I could see every building within the valley of our humble village.

The scenery was as breath taking as ever. The sun seems to lay on top of the hills before us, like a baby in a cradle. A small waterfall runs from the split in the hilltops where the sun lies. The waterfall forms to a river that travels into the valley where the village lies.

Houses dotted the landscape, mostly converging around the river itself.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Aiko speaking breaks me from my trance. I look over to her at my side, the light hitting her perfectly to leave it's orange glow on her, reflecting back from her green eyes.

"Yeah, every time I see it I'm breath taken..." I speak in a little bit of a quieter tone.

...maybe I wasn't just talking about the town, but it's not like she would know.

"Why thank you for the compliment!" Her face is painted with a pink tint. I jump back as she seems to have read my mind.

"Witch!" I shout. Aiko begins to break down laughing, holding her sides as she does so.

"You're so easy to read!" Aiko sputters out between laughs. I can feel my face partially warmed from the embarrassment of her sudden knowledge of what was going on in my mind.

"Let's just go..." I say quietly. Aiko slowly regains her composure and begins to walk along the gravel path down the hill.

We went completely silent as we walked, the only sounds filling the silence between us was the crunching of the gravel.

Aiko's steps were more light than mine, her shoes lightly hitting it with a higher pinched noise than my combat boots could make.

"Here we are!" Aiko suddenly shouted out as we walked into the small rural town, making me look up at the buildings.

It seems time does stop some places...
