The Emperor's Fever

Chapter 5:

Entering the king's room, Eun Won noticed that the air seemed to be cold. Looking around the room, she saw a black figure curled up on the bed.

She walked near the figure and saw that the Emperor was covered in sweat. She put down the food, putting her hand against his head and one hand against hers.

"He has a fever" Eun Won says in a soft, low voice. She helps him up and starts to feed the Emperor. He slowly opened his eyes and saw Eun Won in front of him.

"You're here." "I thought you wouldn't come" says Yu-Jun.

"Emperor Yu-Jun, why didn't you send for an imperial doctor to help you" asked Eun Won, worriedly.

"It is nothing big to be worried about. Now that you are here, you can take care of me." says Yu-Jun. Eun Won almost chock on her spit.

She took the food in her hand and gave it to the emperor. "Can you feed me," asked the emperor in a pleading voice. Almost rolling her eyes at him, she did what was asked.

She started feeding him and when she was done she helped him to get under his covers. She fetched a cold bowl and cloth from the kitchen. Eun Won wets the cloth, drys it and places it on his forehead. The frown on his forehead disappears as Eun Won replaces te cloth again and again. She spent the whole night taking care of Yu-Jun. She left the emperor's room before sunrise and went back to the servants' court. Arriving, she went to her room and took a deep sleep.

Emperor Yu-Jun Point Of View:

I was curled up in my bed, sweating heavily. Hearing light footsteps and a hand was placed against my head.

"He has a fever" says a female voice. I opened my eyes slowly and saw that it was Eun Won.

"You're here." "I thought you wouldn't come" I said.

"Emperor Yu-Jun, why didn't you send for an imperial doctor to help you" asked Eun Won

"It is nothing big to be worried about." "Now that you are here, you can take care of me," I said. She almost choked on her spit. She took the food in her hand and gave it to me. "Can you feed me?" I asked in a pleading voice. She helps me get under the covers. She returns with a bowl and cloth. The frown on my forehead disappeared as she swiped the sweat away again and again. I started to fall asleep.

Early in the morning, the kitchen was busy preparing food for the imperial palace. The emperor requested that the three servants he chose would live in the palace to serve him.

Kang Eun Won was busy packing her bags from dress to shoes. She packed everything she needed. She started helping her mother in the kitchen, washing dishes, cleaning the floor and preparing food for the emperor and his family. When everything was done, she went outside with her baggage and a mask covering her face.

From a distant horse's hooves can be heard as the wind lightly blows. Eun Won was patiently waiting for its arrival. Hearing footsteps behind her, she turns around, regretting her choice. Kang Mi-Ri and the other servant that was chosen strolling closer to her. Rolling her eyes, Eun Won prepared herself for what was to come.

"Look what we have here,"says Kang Mi-Ri with jealousy in her eyes." What could you possibly want Kang Mi-Ri", asked Eun Won, gritting her teeth. " Nothing, just wondering how you were chosen by the emperor" says Kang Mi-Ri. Before Eun Won could say anything back, the three horse-drawn carriages stopped next to them. The carriage was so beautiful. Eun Won couldn't stop looking at it. Climbing in, she took a seat. Each carriage had a small box with something in it. She opened the box where a phoenix hairpin was placed. Eun Won decides to put it in her hair.

It was a long ride to the palace, so she decided to look out the window and took everything in. There were small markets where food was sold and a few shops where dresses and shoes were sold. Even chickens, lambs and pigs were sold.

Along the road she saw the villages and gardens where vegetables were planted. Flowers bloomed everywhere in all sorts and colors. Eun was amazed at how they lived. It was different how they lived. Some people even walk with fruit to be sold at the market. Eun Won felt pity towards the people and how they had to work extra hard to earn money for their family while the servants got money from the palace.

It was an uncomfortable, bumpy ride in the carriage. Eun Won even hit her head a few times against the wooden carriage walls.

Eun Won started to wonder what life would be like in the palace. She started to get anxious. What adventures would happen? What would be the future for her? What schemes would Kang Mi-Ri plan? How would she survive? Will she be able to handle what's to come? What will be her outcome? Will she be happy? Will Yu-Jun be happy? What would his family reaction be if they found out her secret? These thoughts started to take over her mind. She started to fall asleep without noticing it.

At the palace, the emperor was waiting for the carriages to arrive. The servants in the palace were busy with their tasks preparing for the arrival of the personal three / Eun Won to arrive. The emperor was so excited that he couldn't stand still. Jiwoo (male best friend of 8th prince) and Mo Yi Huai (male 8th prince's guard) were standing next to him.

The three carriages stop in front of the palace. Eun Won opens her eyes slowly, still feeling a little anxious. The carriage door was open and she stepped out.

Her dress was light gold, fitting the hairpin in her hair perfectly. Her eyes were bright and observing her surroundings.
