When the Reader Descends Into the Novel With a System

Darkness and light. Two extremes coexisting. A law of equivalent exchange, balancing the world. Where there is light, there must be darkness. And as such, where there is darkness, there must be light. That is the rule of the world my child, and you are the one balancing on the fine line, stuck in between. An anomaly. An abomination. Where you go, death and destruction follow. That will be your fate. You are the one and only son of the darkness, mothered by the daughter of the light. What path will you walk my child? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the story of Kurayami Akimitsu, a contradiction of light and darkness, and I, who reincarnated into his body. In this world based off a novel I had read, what will happen with the addition of me, an unknown entity? Who knows everything about the future of this world. Will I survive with this identity? Only time will tell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Currently on HIATUS. This is my WSA 2022 submission. A/N: So this is going to be the second novel that I will seriously write, with an upload rate of 7 chapters a week. My inspirations for this novel were TAPOV (The Author's POV) and DWTN (Dance With the Nightingale) but the world building will be extremely different and the backstory of the MC will be unique also. The ranking system will be the same, but it's the same ranking system across a lot of novels, so I think it's okay for me to use? There also might be cliches like an academy and an auction, but again, I'll make it as different from the norm as possible. I hope that this will be a refreshing take on the "mob character becoming overpowered genre" for you guys. Release Rate: Check the schedule Chapter Length: 1000-1500 words per chapter My chapters are edited by myself, so forgive me if I make any mistakes. Just comment if there is a mistake anywhere. The first 10 or so chapters are filled with world building stuff, so I hope you'll stick with it and read it as I tried to make it all original. After the first 10, the story should pick up and the action will start, so please don't drop it after only reading a few chapters. Discord Link: https://discord.gg/8ePQESSSHT Finally, as always, thanks for reading! All names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this story are purely fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, or products are intended. Note: The cover doesn't belong to me. If you are the original owner and want me to take it down, please leave a comment on my latest chapter.

Spiritual Beasts (2) - 30

I was already in the training hall that my lessons were going to be held in, so all I had to do was wait.

'It seems like I'll have Primrose first, then Rohan Kunchala, and finally, there'll be Elvira Astor.'

As Primrose was the original creator of the theory that I had presented, I already knew what affinities she had. For the other two, it would just be trial and error.

Changing my appearance back to that of Ashen's, and putting on my Inari mask, I waited until I saw the girl walk in.

She was in her usual witch's attire, which was worn over her school uniform, a completely black coat complimented by a black pointed hat that drooped down at the end like mine.

Of course, I had already hidden my attire, so that I could use it when meeting her as Akimitsu instead of Ashen.

Her hair was still the usual deep purple color, a luscious wave as it fell down her back.

Honestly, I was just admiring the look of my favorite character in the whole book, as seeing her in real life was a lot different than imagining it. She was honestly beautiful in my opinion, in more ways than one, as I knew that we were kindred spirits, with our love for books almost being equal, and her intellect rivaling mine even with my past memories.

It was just kind of sad that, being a huge fan of the book, I couldn't actually see her face behind that mask.

"Welcome Ms. Allegra."

"Good morning Professor Ashen."

"Again, feel free to just call me Ashen."

"I would feel uncomfortable doing that though, may I just call you Mr. Ash?"

...

"Sigh, just please use my full name, I'm very uncomfortable hearing my name shortened."

'I just don't want to have the same name as that anime protagonist. I mean, I spent all that time thinking up a cool alias, but it gets shortened into the name of that ball guy, honestly, it pisses me off.'

"Oh, and may I ask something before the lesson?"

"Sure, but make it quick, we only have 1 hour after all."

"How in the world do you know all our names? I mean, the AI and masks are used to protect our identities after all?"

...

'Shit, I forgot. I was too excited from seeing the characters in real life that I forgot that I'm not supposed to know any of them. I wonder why "She" wasn't suspicious?"

I quickly thought up a believable excuse.

"I'm just a resourceful person."

To quickly change the topic, I pushed forward with the lesson, causing Primrose to put away her doubts for the time being.

Experimenting, we quickly "discovered" that Primrose had an affinity for space and life magic. This, combined with her 4 stigmas of fire, earth, water, and air, would make her an all-rounder, allowing her to become the future archmage and a crucial part of the hero's party that held the team together in tough situations.

At this point, we only had 15 minutes left, but because she was a genius, she was able to quickly produce results in that time, healing a minor wound and teleporting a coin, although this exhausted all her energy.

I cleaned her and the room up with a water type spell before sending her off for the day. As she left, my next student, Rohan Kunchala, came in.

Simply put, in the hour that he was with me, we found out that he had an affinity for fire and air magic. He already had the fire stigma, so this was no help, leading us to only practice basic air magic through a medium, which he was barely able to do at the end of the period.

After he left, my last student, Elvira Astor came in.

Seeing her stunning dirty blond hair again, I couldn't help but reminisce over old times, before reminding myself that those memories weren't exactly mine and that I was just an imposter that took over the original Akimitsu's body.

We found out that her affinities were with water and space, but due to the fact that she had every single angelic stigma, this was basically useless, although we still practiced a little with it as it would look suspicious for both of us if I thought that Elvira didn't need to, indicating that I knew her true identity, or if Elvira directly refused to practice, which would tell a normal person that she already had those stigmas.

As she was leaving, for some reason, she turned around again, muttering, "Arvil?" before shaking her head and heading out. (A/N: That was his alias when he lived next to Elvira.)

When I heard this with my better than normal ears, my heart stopped for a second, but because she just left right after, I came to the conclusion that she didn't figure it out.

'In retrospect, it was a really dumb idea to take the original Akimitsu's head for my second identity.'

Thinking that I would have to be more careful in the future, I put on my witch's clothes and the normal sheet metal mask again before heading for the library.

I used the hour between the two points in my schedule to scale up to the top of the Western mountain with the usual method, reaching the library with 5 minutes remaining before my shift.

This time, when I entered, I was immediately transported to the reception desk.

Annalise was already at the desk, having worked the afternoon shift and was now also working the evening shift.

As I entered, she looked up from the book that she was reading.

"Oh, it's you." She said plainly.

'Hmm, is she still pissed off about the monocle incident? I mean, I escaped fair and square after all.'

She looked back down at her book, deciding to ignore me.

"Uhm senior, are you just gonna ignore me?"

"Humph!"

"So you're still pissed off about the monocle."

"Why wouldn't I be? Wouldn't you question your abilities if some random Class 1 student somehow escaped your grasp with a special item in your domain?"

"You know, it isn't really your domain..."

"Shut up! I know this place better than anyone else so it's my domain!"

"Alright, alright, so how can I make senior happy again?"

She stopped her fake pouting and looked at me with a smile on her face.

"Just let me take a teensy-tinsy look at the object or tell me one of your secrets that no one else knows."

"You could have just said that earlier without having to put on that act you know?"

"Just hurry up my dear junior!"

"So I'll take the second option. One secret that no one knows about me is that I'm ranked 1 in Class 1."

'This is technically true as I'm in my Akimitsu appearance again, and no one knows that a long white haired, red eyed person is Class 1 rank 1, so it's a secret that nobody knows.'

"Oh! So this junior is a little bit smarter than the rest, congratulations!" She said in a slightly sarcastic voice.

"Well, now that we've made up, you can access that library."

She started reading her book again.

...

"Why the fuck are you still standing there?"

"Well, you never listened to the actual reason I'm here."

"And what would that be?"

"Well, we'll be sharing the evening shift now."

With these words, I went behind the desk, conjured up a chair out of thin air with "magic" and sat down next to her.

"Oh yeah, I'm now your new official Junior-kun."

So I'm gonna shamelessly ask for the same thing earlier, namely, can one of ya'll write a review so that I can have 10 reviews. It'll help me a lot, so thanks in advance!

Thanks for reading!
